  • Peter Kalmstrom shows one quick and easy way to get data in a staff list from an Excel table into a SharePoint list - and one way that uses Access and is much more powerful. Peter uses the 2013 versions for this demo. Also refer to www.kalmstrom.com/Tips/ExcelTo...

    Hi, me planning to build a small sharepoint site for searching the employees info(like personal data, fist name , last name, official email id, designation , then department) in the organization, can you please provide the exact videos that help for me.

      I would be delighted to work with you on a consultancy basis. Please let me know if you are interested.

      @ I don't know how it goes for now, I am just initializing the things first , looking to work individually for the org which currently I am working in as a employee.

    Hum, this tutorial open a lot of questions... Like : How to see the picture in Outlook when you put the picture in Library and not attachment ? How to display only thumnail in the list and full picture in the contact window ? How to add a page with form to upload picture and fill contact détails in the same time ?

    Hi, I'm working on Shp Online, I've created a subsite. When I want to create a list, the "From Excel" option doesn't appear. Do I need to enable any option for it appear? Greetings.-

    Thanks for the Demo..I tried it with 1000 records. But is it possible to update the list with more than 90,000 records from multiple sheets?

    • @kalmstrom
      @kalmstrom  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In general SharePoint lists create problems when the number of items is above 5 000 items. If you want to manage 90 000 items or more I would suggest creating multiple SharePoint lists, in your case probably approaching 20! Sounds a bit crazy but you could easily use a Content Search Web Part to search among all the items quickly.
      This would make an interesting series of tips articles! ;-)

    Is it possible to add a single column from Excel 2013 to a new column in SharePoint 2013 this way?

    • @kalmstrom
      @kalmstrom  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am not sure which process you are asking about, since I am showing two. Both of them have the ability to work with single columns if needed.

    Great tutorial sir. I am trying to add a master sheet with about 30 columns, then using this as the data source for other buttons on the same page. For example, the master sheet will have all the employees information, but then other buttons will only display certain portions of it. Maybe like 5 to 7 columns. Then if I choose the employee, their information will pop up automatically pulling from the master sheet. Thanks in advance.

      That is one of the things that Access does better:

    Using the second method, how do I update the list in access (which had 20 registers) with an excel (with 30 registers), and add only the new registers, and not duplicates?

    • @kalmstrom
      @kalmstrom  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Fernando Jannuzzi For this you have to use a more complex query. Please contact sales@kalmstrom.com if you need our assistance.

    Great Demo, one thing need to be explained: how to update SharePoint list using Excel, i.e. I have about 4000 employee records and some were changed (hired,fired,married, etc. :-) in Excel file and need to reflect this in SharePoint.

    • @kalmstrom
      @kalmstrom  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      You would have to make a more complex query in Access to do that. Only select the ones that have been changed since the last run etc.

      Alexey Belyi у вас получилось сделать запросы в access на обновление списка SharePoint? Сейчас стоит такая же задача, не могу найти готового ответа :(

    • @kalmstrom
      @kalmstrom  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, Excel does handle multi-valued columns well. Access is better for that!

    I'm looking at creating Vlookup from SharePoint list to Excel - I have all the Data on the Excel sheet and I would to connect this data with SharePoint list and do vlookup. Is that possible?

    • @kalmstrom
      @kalmstrom  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      As far as I know that is not possible without coding.

    Trying to do the first Excel simple import. Getting the error "Cannot connect to your server at this time. Your table can not be published". Do you need to have BDC installed? I think I am on a SharePoint standard environment.

    • @kalmstrom
      @kalmstrom  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Most likely the problem is the URL, it is very important that you make sure the address is correct. Note that you need to link to the site, not a document library or a page. In the video you can see how I do that. You don’t need to have BDC installed and this has worked the same way for quite a long time in Excel.

    If you have 400 employees, how does it know what photo to put with each person so it shows the correct photo? Do you have to paste each path for each photo for each person? Based on this video, it looks like all 200+ images were just done......is it magic? I'm lost on that part.

    • @kalmstrom
      @kalmstrom  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      There is no magic behind the scenes. I had just prepared the images with the proper file names beforehand.

    How to do that uploaded every day excel file was showed in list automatically?

    • @kalmstrom
      @kalmstrom  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You could possibly do that with a scheduled Flow, but it is rather tricky to do. I hope to do a demo soon on how to get started on that.

    There are a lot of issues with this technique:
    I was not able to export multiline text fields as well as person and group fields

    • @kalmstrom
      @kalmstrom  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Multiline text fields can only be imported using this technique if the column is set to be plain text only. For person/group fields you need to supply the id of the user, not the name. I have described the use of the person/group columns here:

      +kalmstrom.com : Appreciate your response. But, if you look at the video, you would have used Single line of text and multi line of text. But, you have not used people picker column. Have you tried mapping users to the people picker column while uploading the excel ?

    • @kalmstrom
      @kalmstrom  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Shandeep AM You will have to make a look-up query against the Users list. It is a bit tricky, so please contact sales@kalmstrom.com if you need our assistance.
