    Your price savings are a bit disingenuous. When you purchase the tent through Rivian, the price includes cross bars, $450 before price increase, $500 after. That reduces your savings to about $1,000. While obviously great savings, most of us don’t live near tax free states, nor is it worth spending hundreds of dollars to travel long distances to save ~$150. Getting it on sale is great if the timing works out - REI has their 20% off sale for members happening at the end of this month. MSRP for the Yakima SkyRise HD Medium is $2,399. With my local sales tax (6.85%) plus Cross Bars comes to $3,063. Basically the same as buying from Rivian, but the warranty is greater on branded equipment. I’m
    Happy you saved money on the tent, but your comparison is not apples-to-apples.

      I thought of buying aftermarket tent for my R1S (whenever it's delivered), as I thought I can save money if we can make it work. So I can see the point here. But I have an issue with this video. I watched so many videos from Now You Know and liked them all until this one. I am surprised they left out the cost of cross bars as you pointed out. Another issue is that for Pre Match 2022 orders, Rivian tent price is $2650. It's ok if this was omitted because new orders don't get this price. But did they not know about cross bars or did they intentionally leave that part out? Either way, Sorry to say this Now You Know, you could have done better.

    • @Kulric

    @triplacebo 2 ปีที่แล้ว +83

    You guys haven't accounted for the fact that the $450 crossbars are included with the purchase of the Rivian tent. For preorder customers, the tent and crossbars cost $2650. Retail cost on the Yakima Skyrise HD is $2399, so I don't think the preorder price is egregious.

    • @ABSVabeautifulsunsetvlog
      @ABSVabeautifulsunsetvlog 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yeah, I think that since they were able to utilize REI’s member perks that for them it was a great deal, but I’m not sure if they used the 20% off deal that REI sends out like twice a year for its members. If they did, one would have to wait and utilize that, in which case they are right, and the deal is unbeatable. I think that their over arching message is just that companies sometimes lie in order to try and force you to buy products from them when you don’t have to.

That will only fit behind the driver in a mega cab and you can still have seating for four in the truck. The camp kitchen would consist of a stove it could be propane white gas one to three burner whatever you want or you could go that electric induction set up for more money. A one or 2 gallon water spray bottle pressurized can be your pressurized water pressure sink, bring a dish tub and a fiber scrubber and some environmental soap. Chairs and a table and you’re camping. No sense having to complicate it this mobile set up will move from truck car to truck

    Im mentioning this here because I know there are a lot of newbies when it comes to rooftop tents and overloading in general. Yakima isn't the only brand that makes tents that will fit. Just about most rooftop tents on the market have adjustable mounting points that will work just fine on the Rivian. Do a bit of research, you'll be glad you did. Also, here's a pro-tip. Most people who buy rooftop tents end up selling them because it just doesn't make a lot of sense for most people to drive around with a tent on your car, so do yourself a favor and search on Facebook marketplace and you'll save even more than the guys in the video.

    *When I was having my 3,100 sqft 2-story house being built from the ground up I skipped all the extra stuff I could do myself. Like the 7 ceiling fans, all the 40-something blinds for the whole house, automatic garage door opener, etc... even the overpriced elaborate water system, etc... We saved over some $20,000 dollars! Turned out Home Depot would install the 3 automatic garage doors we bought there for just $50 bucks so we went ahead with that. All the ceiling fan locations were already pre-set by the builder. So, it only took me 15 minutes to install each ceiling fan. The company we bought our blinds from installed all those for no cost! Sear installed the soft water system which was more than half the price for the exact same model(instead of $5,000 from the model home people it only cost $2,000 at Sears) Bottom line if you can do it yourself and you're very handy with tools you can save a bundle.*

    There is no tax free state unless you live in that state. Use tax is a 6.25% tax paid on out-of-state or out-of-country purchases that are used, stored or consumed in Massachusetts and on which no Massachusetts sales tax (or less than 6.25%) was paid. Unlike the 6.25% sales tax, which is collected by sellers, use tax is generally paid directly to the state by the purchaser. I believe all sales tax states have this provision.

    While you’re at it, Rivian chose the only bike mount to sell from Yakima as the wheel mount, and they announced it won’t fit any adult mtb, however Yakima sells fork and axle mount which will fit any mtb after removing the front wheel, and according to the intent net the 1up wheel mount rack fits an adult mtb (over 75” long I believe). So instead of announcing to the public that they CAN still put a mtb on the bed, they just said sorry put it on the roof. This gives a false negative perception. Can you text the 1up rack on an adult mtb?

Rivian offered it in an option with a big mark up, but I missed the bit where they said the Yakimo tent would not fit. YOU lied. You titled this video "Rivian Lied" when it should actually have been "Yakimo Lied". I was wary of the title being a hook to draw people in, but I thought I'd watch in case this was a real story. Turns out it wasn't. It was just a veerrrryy long plug for your sponsor and some smart shopping advice for people looking for a three person tent for their vehicle at a discount price using well established methods. It almost had nothing to do with Rivian. It was about Yakimo and a tent they sell that can fit a Rivian Pickup AMONG OTHER TRUCKS.

    Yes, you should be able to make a camp kitchen that is cheaper and also better. The trick is to work out how to pack the heavier parts closer to the truck. I used to use a water proof storage container to hold the plates and the cups etc. The container worked as the dishpan for washing up. Sizing one to fit in the other, in my case involved taking a tape measure to the store where I got the plates.

    just to let you know batteries often don't show the full capacity because of how the driver drives. It averages out how you drive the vehicle to gauge the range you'll get. It would be like your physical gas tank changing sizes depending on how you drive. you're just conditioned to think when you fill it up to 15 gallons of gas you get 350 miles of range but truthfully you won't get 350 miles because you're likely not going to drive efficiently but you could if you did. The Battery just makes this adjustment for you to tell you what you really would get.

      @@belzvon Not sure I agree on the "trying to bring down Rivian" bit, though omitting the cost of the cargo bars (and membership) was a bit disingenuous. I finally just saw my first Rivian out in the wild. It's not a bad looking truck, but as a very long time truck user who actually uses their truck for actual work. This truck does not look like something that you could put to work and use it as a truck. It looks about as heavy duty as my wife's Nissan Murano and not much more honestly. I am not exaggerating one bit either.
    This looks like it's for hauling things like that tent that they picked up or a home appliance like a washing machine. It says it's rated for 1,760 lb but I think you would kill that truck pretty quickly hauling that much weight. I couldn't imagine trying a deck package or 20 Plus bags of concrete. Probably 500 to 800 pounds is more realistic if you don't want to trash it prematurely. The motor probably pulls the load fine but so will pretty much any engine or motor.

    Looks great. The truck tents have gained popularity but there seems to be some major drawbacks. Windy up high, pain to use the stairs at night to pee and non level ground is amplified up high.
    Recommend when you design a kitchen make it an indoor tailgating kitchen with large insulated tent/gazebo. It should be easy to have a custom door put in for the kitchen. Add portable ac and Samsung frame tv with easel mount. Separate pop up bathroom/shower. Composting toilet with tankless water heater, pumps filtered water from creek. 4 Sonos move outdoor speakers. Philips Hue outdoor lighting. High end Electric air mattress
    Still might need to figure out propane for fire pit tiki tourches and maybe tankless heater.

    • @jimbercik
      @jimbercik 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Once the kitchen slides out it should then hing out into an L. I would not try to include a refrigerator in it. I would go for the largest dometic that will fit in the bed. They are easy to move short distances, you can have a much larger refrigerator/freezer this way.

    • @jimbercik
      @jimbercik 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      A couple more you should put on your ultimate camper wishlist. Have a tent for both sides to use the full air conditioning/heating. Have another module that rides in the bed that fits in the other side of the port once you slide of the out your kitchen. This could be a big arm/wing for a solar panel if you did not want to go with the two ground tent option. I still think the rack should be covered with a big solar panel, that is covered with plexiglass so that it’s still can be a night observation deck. You could also mount racks for kayaks above the solar panels. They would be covered while traveling, but once you took the kayaks off the solar deck.
