FISHING THE FOX RIVER IN WISCONSIN "DON'T LIP A CATFISH" - Wisco Trip Day 1

The title sums it up. I tried to lip a catfish and got bit! Not my proudest moment. Come join us as we spend a day in Montello WI fishing the Fox River.

If all your fishing for is panfish try fishing the locks that you walked by to get to that spot. Sometimes there are more gills in there than anywhere. Then you have bait for catfish in the main river
When I was in high school they still had an abandoned bait shop at the dam that a friend of the family used to own.

As for holding cats: small channels (sub 3 lbs) are generally fine to lip since you can bend their jaw down, even then they'll put every muscle in their body to work trying to bite you. Big ones you should hold the tail with one hand place the other under their pectoral fins, putting your fingers in between the spines. Getting bit hurts, but getting spined is another level.

Montello Dam down from the grocery store on the the Fox River coming out of Buffalo Lake
