A good inclusion would have been Ryan Meara. Had 1 season as the first choice GK for the NY Redbulls in 2012. He got injured, and his “temporary” replacement went on to start nearly every league game for the next 6 seasons breaking the MLS record for consecutive league appearances with 183. Excluding appearances in the PDL (an amateur/ semi-professional league) early in his career, Meara has made 35 appearances for the Redbulls first team from that first season and the odd cup match over the years, 30 for the Redbulls reserve team in the USL championship (US second division) and 1 appearance on loan. 66 total appearances over 10 years. Still at the club today, hes a fan favorite despite his lack of games. A New York Native, he’s seen as a loyal, blue collar professional, more than capable of occupying the number 1 shirt, who has been unfortunate to have been at the club at the same time as one of the all time great MLS goalkeepers.
I have a pretty good idea for a video. Widzew Lodz were one of the biggest clubs in Poland, but they went bankrupt so they were taken over by a fans group and had to start out in Division 5. They built themselves a stadium and kept getting promoted until they are now back in Polands premier league. It's a riches, to rags back to riches story which might be quite interesting.

I liked Hitchcock, good solid keeper, must admit he doesn't spring to mind for me as I remember him playing quite a bit in the era when Dimi Kharine was number one. I'm a United fan born in 1991. Maybe I'm misremembering but I actually thought Quinton Fortune was a decent squad player 😂 He was decent cover for a long season with cup games and injury cover. Probably great for bringing in support from the South African market too.
The surprise is there aren't more goalkeepers. It's a position that lends itself to being good enough to make a club but not playing much due to somebody else being better. Taylor is a prime example of how that can happen.
Met Tony Pulis in Tampa Bay when Anthony was St Louis manager, called his name out and he came straight over and shook my hand, feel like he thought we must have known each other as why else would I have recognised him! :p
Imagine living your peacuful life somewhere in Greece or remote area in some exotic island and suddenly you get mentioned in HITC Sevens and random people come to you asking autographs next day or asking question about your footballers career, which you barely remember yourself 😜
What you want him to predict who might have a chance of winning the World Cup in the next 78 years? Given that Croatia (4 million people) got to the WCF and Denmark and Greece came out of nowhere to win the Euros, you could basically tag 50 countries that realistically have a chance of winning the WC by 2100.
I haven’t watched the video yet, and even within two seconds of seeing the title I thought… Stuart Taylor, GK for Villa, Arsenal, Saints etc. Now I see if he’s included…
If I remember correctly, Stuart Taylor got a short run of games for Arsenal when both David Seaman and Alex Manninger were injured. He played really well, and made some important saves. He was brought on as sub in the last game of the season to enable him to have enough games to qualify for a Premier League championship medal. You'd think he would have been good enough to be first choice somewhere.
As a Walsall fan, I remember Rene Gilmartin in goal. I'd say he played less than 50 games for us in about 5 seasons before moving to Watford I think. Seemed to bounce around for a while, never establishing himself anywhere as a first choice keeper. Retired last year... I'd bet his amount of appearances is less than 100.
Day 14: A detailed look at the state of Crotone would be nice, going from Serie A in 20/21 with a 20 goal a season striker (Simy) to Serie C by 22/23. Two relegations in a row, something surely has to be wrong at that club.
Might be difficult to so out which leagues were "top 5" for each era. I think there was even a brief period lately when Portugal was ahead of France, right?
Kaiser claims to have signed for 13 clubs. The big 4 of Rio de Janeiro: Flamengo, Fluminense, Botafogo and Vasco, plus other two of Rio's "medium" clubs: America and Bangu. He also claimed to be signed by Palmeiras in São Paulo, Independiente in Argentina, Puebla in Mexico, El Paso in the US, Louletano in Portugal, and Ajaccio Gazelec in France and Wacker Insbruck in Austria. He's a Libertadores, Intercontinental Cup and Brazilian league champion without kicking a ball.
Here in Brasil we have several cases like that of the kaiser. My team, Fortaleza, has had a bunch. An integral part of the scheme is for the player to have a stint in one of the "big 12" clubs in Brazilian football on his CV. With that he is ready to go through several teams, play 1 or 2 bad matches, earn months of salary and go cheating on another club... This is why I always make sure when I play championship manager, I give my fringe players at least three appearances per season. (By fringe players, I mean the 22 non frontline players of my first team squad, I don't mean that I move in reserve players for games willy-nilly! And, yes, I try to have 33 players in the first team squad, three goalies, three right-backs, three left-backs, six centre-backs, three defensive midfielders, three attacking midfielders, three right wingers, three left wingers, and six strikers. That should be more than enough cover for every position!)
Agreed but depends on the team if I am doing a carrer I usually don't get wingers if the team already has wingers and if the team isn't using fullbacks I won't use fullbacks and so on I only use the positions that the team is already using.
Isn't it kind of a cheat to have 3 goalkeepers in this list? They're the most likely to be logging extended time on the bench, since by definition only one goalkeeper can play in a side. The same cannot be said of outfield players, who usually could slot in to more than one place in a given squad, depending on the system.

How about players that played at senior level at other sports i know there are a few like Kevin Moran who played Gaelic football for Dublin but are there many others.
as a bayern fan, bernd dreher is one of the first people to come to mind. he had an active time as #1 of uerdingen for years before joining us (before i was even born) and proceeded to be bayern's 3rd choice goalkeeper for a whopping 10 years total (over a 12 year span, he retired for 2 years and then came back for another 3 at the age of 39, i believe). during his time at bayern he made a total of 15 appearances for the club.
Signed him many a time on Champ Man when desperately trying to find a backup keeper and remembered why I shouldn't after 3 games in. In real life BTW was he any good?
The player at 16:29 isn't actually kaiser, that's the chilean player Franklin Lobos, who after retiring went on to become one of the 33 miners that got trapped in 2010, so thats a fun fact i guess
Kind of surprised, that Stuart Taylor never got caped for England. I mean, he did keep a clean sheet in the Premiere League at least once. That should put him ahead of Paul Robinson. Or Joe Hart... Or Robert Green... Or Scott Carson... Or David James...
Pulis reminds me of Manager John Bond's son Kevin at Norwich. Constantly terrible as a full back but constantly in the line up and hardly ever played for any other Championship/EPL side if his father wasn't managing it...
Stuart Taylor has been a hero of mine for a while. Would love a career like that; Kaiser is running him close, but it seems like a lot of effort to do that; so think I'll stick with Taylor.
Alfie, when will you release your documentaries on Turkey's Big Three (Fenerbahçe, Galatasaray, Beşiktaş)? I remember you teased them back in your Süper Lig video.
Hey Alfie, can you make a video about the fall of Esbjerg FB, they were 3rd in the danish superliga in 18/19 and then have suffered 2 relegations in 3 years
It wouldn't make the list criteria but I remember a guy called Ali Dia who I'm sure long tenured Saints fans will remember he was the guy who conned Graeme Souness into giving him a one month contract claiming to be George Weah's cousin. Might come in handy if you do a list of greatest football player hoaxes

Request that could be interesting: 7 Players from different eras who would've benefitted from position changes. IE 90s number 9's who could've made good number 10's or wingers today, and vice versa
Meh
Cheers mate
Alfie, you should research Nuno Espírito Santo of Wolves fame, he spent his career as bench goalkeeper in Vitória Guimarães, Deportivo Corunha and FC Porto.
I remember pullis on the bench for Portsmouth against Blackpool in the fa cup
Never thought I'd see Quinton fortune appear here - but he had a solid season or two and made a deadly partnership with John O Shea for a couple of games 😂
Video idea: the 7 greatest 'what if' players
Like players who's bodies let them down e.g reus, ledley king
Or players who let their bad habits get the better of them e.g ravel morrison
Wow, what a tough criteria, you really challenged yourself 👏🏾
We all know how proud of the joke at 13:10 you were Alfie - and rightly so.
Are you making a Barcelona fc bancrupt video and your videos are amazing keep doing what you are doing
A List much like this one but about professional players who competed in other pro sports either before during or after their footballing careers.
How about players that played at senior level at other sports i know there are a few like Kevin Moran who played Gaelic football for Dublin but are there many others.
Did Roy Keane play for Cork?
I haven't heard of most of these for a very good reason by the looks of it.
It's no wonder Kaiser in first place never made any appearances, considering he was so busy touring the world as the lead guitarist in Van Halen.
If you're constantly stuck in the reserves you can relate to this.
I wish you do a documentary on Carlos Kaiser and other fake footballers
Honestly didn’t expect USCL era Orlando City to be mentioned on this channel
as a bayern fan, bernd dreher is one of the first people to come to mind. he had an active time as #1 of uerdingen for years before joining us (before i was even born) and proceeded to be bayern's 3rd choice goalkeeper for a whopping 10 years total (over a 12 year span, he retired for 2 years and then came back for another 3 at the age of 39, i believe). during his time at bayern he made a total of 15 appearances for the club.
Signed him many a time on Champ Man when desperately trying to find a backup keeper and remembered why I shouldn't after 3 games in.
In real life BTW was he any good?
Still played 201 league games for uerdingen, which is too much for this list
Okay, getting pictures of people with similar names was a touch of genius. I lost it at bloody Davina McCall 😂
The player at 16:29 isn't actually kaiser, that's the chilean player Franklin Lobos, who after retiring went on to become one of the 33 miners that got trapped in 2010, so thats a fun fact i guess
Kerlon (the seal dribble guy) only made 68 league appearances as well
Stuart Taylor is an amazing goalkeeper in Champ Manager 03/04.
Absolute unit in the Essen team at 11:00
How about a documentary regarding the German football scandal of 2005? Could be quite interesting, as it's one of the largest in recent memories
Kind of surprised, that Stuart Taylor never got caped for England. I mean, he did keep a clean sheet in the Premiere League at least once. That should put him ahead of Paul Robinson. Or Joe Hart... Or Robert Green... Or Scott Carson... Or David James...
Day 300: Indonesia XI If All Eligible Players Had Declared For Them.
Make a Video about Footballers whom should have Never Played as they were not up to scratch … ⚽️
Orlando City were heavily linked to the Stoke board and both owner and manager were Stoke born. Pulis Jr only moved there as a favour to his dad
14:35 I love that picture
As someone who studied sociology for A-Levels, the Nicholas Marx section was a joy to watch 😂
Do an Iron man video - outfield players that never get injured or miss games
Damien Plessis instantly came to mind, but it turns out he's made at least 133 appearances
Stuart Taylor was tipped for big things. I remember seeing a doc on the England youth team at lilleshall and he was on it.
Bloody hell! Kaiser is an absolute legend of a farce!
Alfie, when will you release your documentaries on Turkey's Big Three (Fenerbahçe, Galatasaray, Beşiktaş)? I remember you teased them back in your Süper Lig video.
I think I have actually seen Pulis play for Orlando when I went to watch them
Stewart Castledine didn't play to many games over his time with Wimbledon
great shout. Also married to 'homes under the hammer' presenter - ideal daytime tv for the 'resting' footballer
Good call. 53 games according to wikipedia. As a Dons fan back in the day only recall seeing him play during a 5-1 loss at Highbury.
Has this channel done a "7 most influential managers in world football" video?
Hey Alfie, can you make a video about the fall of Esbjerg FB, they were 3rd in the danish superliga in 18/19 and then have suffered 2 relegations in 3 years
The Kaiser story is quite something.
“Scandal” a Arsenal player has that this week Alfie.
I thought Jimmy Glass might have qualified, but 2 years as Bournemouth's No 1 spoiled his chances
Ah the legend of Carlos Kaiser, the world's best fake footballer
the way Kaiser used to get new clubs when he was sacked by others still works in my country unfortunately
What country are u in?
@@Mr1234tan1234 the country currently ranked 138th by FIFA (figure out which country it is and let me know your findings)
@@Snodgrass_11 Ethiopia, how’s the pay like over there?
@@Mr1234tan1234 you know an utterly average player could get up to 200,000 USD for sign-on bonus. our league is the third highest paying league in Africa but we are ranked 42 or something out of 54 countries in FIIFA rankings. most of our clubs are governmental clubs so the officials does not care about the government money they waste in a country whose people's average income is less than a dollar daily. Managers and players jump from club to club every year to secure that sign-on fee .Generally, it is sickening.
POV: Every bench/reserve goalkeeper in fifa carrer mode
Does your career mode spaz out all the time? I just got promoted to the prem with Middlesbrough, and all of a sudden the champions League video intro plays for no reason, it tells me I don't have enough players and to forfeit the match. I havent even qualified for the CL!!!!! What the hell is going on with this mess? Also, if I sign a player on a 1 year deal, I'm unable to offer him an extension and he leaves for free! This game is a bus crash holy shit.
@@bricktop. what??? no. and why u sign on 1 year deal
@@rgamingpolska il sign a 36 yr old Pogba on a 1 year deal for example. That's all he will agree to, so I sign him and then the game won't let me extend his contract, it tells me" you've already agreed a deal with this player". His one year deal expires and then he moves to another team on a free. Happens all the time on my game. I had all these problems appear rou d about the time EA removed the Russian teams. I think it must have screwed the coding up somehow. Iv uninstalled and reinstalled but it still keeps happening. As well as that random CL glitch I spoke of in my other comment.
At first i thought the title meant footballers who almost took up another career.
Very surprised Kashif Siddiqui didn't make the list. 9 appearances in 10 years.
I'm guessing even Steve Harper made more than 100 appearances but after that at Newcastle, someone like - and yeah I'm going back here - Paul Brayson perhaps? Paul Robinson, striker?
Alfie, can you predict the Premier League table if the Premier League was allowed to continue throughout the World Cup in Qatar?
Fábio Paím should have a video all for himself, but he would fit this list too.
Have you done a video about Molde?
Before watching the video I wondered how many matches Jordi Cruyff made so I looked him up. Was surprised to see he played more for Barcelona than he did for Man Utd 😳
Not surprisingly. He even works there now high up in there boardroom.
Speak for yourself about nobody having any recollection of Quintin Fortune having played football at all... People of my age (mid-late 30s) will remember him in quite a few games, I certainly do
Nice for the correct pronunciation of Essen.
Whats with the image at 14.41 with the GK saving the ball and a player upside down? 😅😅😅
If Alfie ever built a prison it would contain only two rooms with any function, a guillotine and an electric chair because Alfie is killing it and taking no prisoners.
That last guy is a genius.
Kaiser is legendary
There are players you wonder just how good they could’ve been, sturridge potentially could’ve broken records at Liverpool. The one I was always most gutted about was Dean Ashton
I remember he finally found his form and was almost guaranteed to 1st/2nd choice striker at the World Cup.
Stuart castledine for Wimbledon in the 90s
