10:03 Fun fact: older plants don't have deeper roots than younger ones. Saplings develop a taproot that grows downward to help anchor it and provide stability. More mature trees mainly develope horizontal root growth that allows to capture water and nutrients from a larger soil volume.
At first i was like, man, 18 minutes.....i don't know if i'll sit through the whole video.. but i did! You can tell the man has huge passion for the tea and was so informative! I'm a tea-drinker, but never gave it much thought, really, except for the fact that teas should be "steepped" at different temperatures.. :D Thank you Ian and Don! ^_^
I adore the knowledge that is shared here. I learned even more about tea despite already taking a tea course. Thank you for this, I really do wish people would have more knowledge about tea
You prolly dont give a shit but does someone know of a tool to get back into an Instagram account..? I somehow lost my login password. I would love any assistance you can offer me.
@Joe Gunner i really appreciate your reply. I found the site thru google and I'm waiting for the hacking stuff now. I see it takes quite some time so I will reply here later with my results.
THIS is the type of video I've been searching for! Everything else is saying like where to get the herbs and leaves from whatever supplier, how to blend, etc., but they never talked about this sort of creation and detail stuff that I've actually been looking for. Great video, very informative!👏👏
Cool video I have worked at 2 loose leaf tea stores, I love tea , some teas have a good amount of caffeine too, but don’t give you that crazy coffee feeling. Matcha is great for energy and focus too.
Wow, Ian. Thanks for putting this up, introducing your audience to some great tea lore, and particularly in time for the next few weeks of Lunar New Year celebration in San Francisco and the world!
Love this Ian - I'm a tea drinker, not a coffee drinker and I'm always wanting to learn more about it but there doesn't seem to be as much info. as readily available for tra drinkers as there is for coffee drinkers, so thank you for doing this - it was very informative and I learned so much!
Wonderful sharing your passion about the most wonderful beverage called tea. A quick, there are 3 types of elevations of tea that impact tea- low grown "stronger tea", medium grown and high grown "lighter tea" we can blend these elevations for an amazing cup of tea!
Hey. Yk I’m addicted to eating raw tea leaves I just crunch raw black tea leaves and I was just looking at some videos to find if anyone else does that. It brought me to this really informative video
So enjoyed learning about the different types of teas! Mind boggling....but love "some" teas! I used boiling hot water....ughhh...now I know better! Thanks for sharing with us.
lol... He had me there too for a second: "I thought it was." 😂. He said it with such conviction lol and timing (ask anyi comedian its about the timing of course you have to have good material too😂)
Thank you so very much! This video was so informative. I always preferred tea to other drinks, but I never understood why green tea leaves are so bitter to me. Water temp... go figure :) Anyway, my preferred tea types are White and Oolong. I will try to find yellow tea - I never even heard of this variety. BR
This was absolutely fascinating. I made my own butter tea since I can’t get to the Himalayans. I’m definitely checking out Don’s site and videos. Great job of introducing the complexity of tea appreciation.
Nice video! As a loose leaf tea aficionado and daily drinker, thoroughly enjoyed watching this video! Don is quite knowledgeable… Only pity is that he didn’t mention dark tea when he’s talking about post fermentation tea. After all, it’s only 18m! Already a very good crash course for loose leaf tea (Gongfu or Kungfu tea)! Kudos
What an incredible video! I thoroughly enjoyed this one Ian. I am a tea junky having grown up in Asia and being half Japanese...but I had no idea about many of the things he talked about in this video. I learned so much and it was so interesting. Side note, and I'm sorry if you addressed this already but I seem to hear an echo in some of your videos. I think it might only be when you have a guest on the show so could it be dual mics or something? Anyway, thank you as always Ian...this was a wonderful and informative video.
Wow what a great video! Thanks for all of the information. I would love to learn more about steeping times, and at the end was he saying you could re-steep it 10 or 15 times?
In a tea shop I was told, using boiling water with green tea may not result in the best taste, but it is the best way to infuse / extract the healthiest properties.
Many other Camellias are used for teas. Maybe not 'true tea', but similarly processed and containing similar compounds. (like xanthines & l-theanine) Some have used Camellia japonica on small scale & Camellia ptilophylla has been consumed in Guangdong province. Camellia sasanqua has been used in Japan for 'tea'. Camellia taliensis is used in Yunnan province: "Camellia taliensis is locally used to make white tea, black tea, and pu'er tea. Yue Guang Bai (月光白 "Moonlight White") is a white tea made from the plant. Yunnan pu-erh tea made from C. taliensis can command a much higher price than pu'er made from the more common C. sinensis." Wild Camellia crassicolumna are picked to make a kind of pu'er. (according to the study provided also green tea apparently) This Camellia species is actually caffeine & theophylline free, interestingly enough. (don't know about other xanthines like theobromine, I guess not, but don't take my word for it) pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/19128040/

I was drinking tea with zero knowledge for the last 50 years, I have learned a lot today. Thanks

Wow, Ian. Thanks for putting this up, introducing your audience to some great tea lore, and particularly in time for the next few weeks of Lunar New Year celebration in San Francisco and the world!

Tea adorator here! I do also have a fondness for coffee as well... but tea is my first love!!!! Wunderbar ❤️
this man has the coolest sink, glasses, countertops, walls like I love this place. a clear square mug! look at that faucet!

I recently switched to tea because coffee gives me migraines w the caffeine. Tea does not. I'd like to learn more, great introduction video.
This is like a weird crossover of two universes.
😊
FINALLY, i’m super interested in brewing these drinks but everyone talks about burning the leaves instead of extraction
Great video, thank you very much to your guest.

Hi Kels, yeah when you film so close to someone with another mic on, its hard to cross edit the two vocals, one picks up the other. x
Totally understand and assumed that. Thank you again for the lovely video!
Wow what a great video! Thanks for all of the information. I would love to learn more about steeping times, and at the end was he saying you could re-steep it 10 or 15 times?
