The reverse snobbery in the UK is like nowhere else. The UK built an elite college to train the cream of the crop of the next generation of soccer players - It's applauded as being elite. Yet when it comes to a commitment to excellence at an Oxford college. It's now derided for being elitist.
Can't believe I watched the whole thing. I studied at Philp's College in '62. Don't remember anybody much like Sabrina. My most vivid memories are crisping my eye brows lighting the heater and getting a splinter from the wooden tub. The Scotch was great.

Of course I am thankful for whatever learning assimilated mostly through lectures. My favorite possession is my collection of Giles Treasuries. I take it you are serious about taking advantage of educational opportunities.

And your chances of en-suite are pretty low I'm afraid, unless you have a special reason/exemption like a disability.
where are Exeter, LMH, St Anne's? overall, very cool grading system :) Although, as a big fan of Greek/Roman classics, I'd add one more tier at the top - the Eneide

I went to Balliol 20 years ago as a postgrad and would say that I was very surprised to hear this vlogger describe it as right wing! It was incredibly leftie when I was there and I suspect it is still now. The colleges with a right wing reputation back in the day were Trinity, Oriel and Brasenose and perhaps ChCh. Definitely do not put Balliol out of the question! Also, you will find your tribe wherever you end up- you just have to look for it!

@@alexluck4420 I was at Brasenose somewhat before then, and I would say that Brasenose was not right wing so much as fastidiously politically apathetic. We preferred not to have fights over politics, and so I have friends from BNC across the political spectrum.

I have met quite a few right wing people from Oriel, but I'm sure left wingers also exist there too! It just has the stereotype of having a slightly higher proportion than perhaps other colleges, which is why I mentioned it-but please don't worry about that (if you are worried) because you will find your tribe wherever you go!
This is too late for you, but for everyone else: Oriel was also the last all-male college to admit women in 1985 because admitting women would "undermine the distinctive nature of the college."

If it's the one you want to apply for, then please apply!! Don't let one video on the internet dissuade you-it's always good to be aware of potential issues each college might have, but in reality every single college has its pros and cons and it's a matter of weighing them up for yourself. For you, their choir is a massive pro, while I wasn't really interested in the choir when I was applying. Maybe email the Magdalen Access Officer to get more information?

No doubt you appreciate the superb irony of someone doing the most "elitist" degrees in Oxford (Classics) complaining about elitism. And you may wish to think carefully about demonising people on the basis of where they went to school. I am sure you are a lovely person, but that sort of bigotry doesn't create a favourable impression amongst people who have never met you.
