I fell in love with the series because of season 1. Since then its been a good cruise but I definitely understand the critiques for the show. What makes the series easier to stomach for me, when it comes to the tough sequences and events, is understanding that it's a story and fiction where conflict has to happen to push the story forward. And most importantly, I'm just here to enjoy the ride were I could get off whenever I want to. Although, I do feel frustrated with the MC at times. And, I wonder just how long could the premise of renting a girlfriend go. I kinda want the story to go certain directions and explore a relationship a bit deeper but ultimately I feel like its not so much the story's fault and more so the fault of the formula used to make, maintain, and produce anime/manga. It feels like any real gripes I have with the series is more so about how love stories are handled and less about the story in particular. I'm interested to see more but I'm not in a rush to pick up the story right away. It's almost like I have to let the story simmer a bit and than pick it up to fully enjoy the content.
I agree that conflict is essential to drive the story forward, even if it can be frustrating at times. Personally, I really enjoy watching the characters and their emotions develop, I can easily understand and even relate to the MC.
