The thing I would need to make a Lovecraft series work is at least one character that is either too pragmatic or too unhinged to give any shits about what's going on, maybe one of each. Like, you need someone that isn't constantly reacting with completely sincere horror and losing their mind.

I find myself further and further invested in the Scaredy-Dukeverse, and I have to ask myself, do I deserve this? The answer is an absolute no, no I do not. But I have it now, and that is what matters. And the world has Bobby, which means that it can be safe from terrorists for another day! Remember that one Supernatural finale that ended with OLD ONES being released and we all thought we were getting like a whole season of full-on cthulhu vs Sam and Dean and it was gonna be the bomb, but then it just wasn't really. Today Matt...you reopened that wound. Also: yes part 2 pls.

Lovecraft was pretty adamant that using characters, ideas etc of other authors was inherently neccessary for art to evolve freely, and not only did he quite often reference other people's works, but he also strongly encouraged other authors to use his. He might have had shitty stances on a lot of things (though he also had a redemption arc on that later in life), but he was very much correct on copyright (or whatever was the equivalent at his time).
The Empire and Full Moon stuff was great video store fun for two decades. They definitely went downhill when they started going SUPER low budget and terrible comedy. By the way, I came across your video because the director of Miskatonic U shared it!

He worried that causing too much of a ruckus in town would interfere with his Halloween plans so instead of just killing up the place to get a new car he takes the overnight job to get the first stolen car fixed without questions. (note he hasn't had a chance to pick up a new mask yet) So that explains the characters silence, indifference toward the supernatural nonsense, and extreme strength and violent tenancies.

The show described almost happened about 10 years back. It was cancelled v close to production. It was a WB Lovecraft show set in Miskatonic and the leads included Tillinghast and Herbert West. I've spent ages trying to refind the cast stills I saw when the show was first announced yeaaaaars back. I remember hoping that Combs would play Carl Hill.
