Pink Floyd - The Wall Live at Earls Court 1980

  • The Wall concert was only performed 31 times in four cities: Los Angeles (7 shows), Uniondale (5), Dortmund (8) and London (11). The primary 'tour' consisted of 18 shows in L.A., Uniondale and London in 1980, but the band performed a further eight shows in Dortmund (13-20 February 1981) and five more shows at Earl's Court (13-17 June) for filming, with the intention of integrating the shows into the upcoming movie.
    The London shows are documented on the album Is There Anybody Out There? The Wall Live 1980-81.
    David Gilmour and Mason attempted to convince Waters to expand the show for a more lucrative, large-scale stadium tour, but because of the nature of the material (one of the primary themes is the distance between an artist and his audience) Waters balked at this.
    The idea to include live concert footage of any significant length for The Wall film was dropped shortly before the final shows took place. There are conflicting statements regarding the professionally filmed footage. It had been widely believed that 'the wrong type of film' had been used and the results were dark and murky. Mark Fisher, partly responsible for designing the show said the footage was: 'very dark and horrible and boring and should be burned'. Alan Parker himself said: '[the filming of the shows were] five blown opportunities'. These rumours were partially scotched when the Channel 4 documentary 'Behind the Wall' (2000) used perfectly clear footage from the 1981 concerts. 27 February and 9 August 1980 concerts were shot on videotape. David Gilmour has stated in an interview that only three tracks were captured on film:

      The sad part is, artists like this are extinct. There's not a band in the world today that could even hold a candle to the talent, creativity, artistry, and pure passion and drive it took these guys to create an experience like The Wall. To me this was perfection.

      Please listen to "Outside The Wall", which is the last song of the album/concert. It sums up what we misfits FEEL LIKE INSIDE as we stumble along this lonely road called life, attempting, unsuccessfully, to "be normal." We are broken, whether at birth or through our adventures in life. War, poverty, relationships, drugs...all add to the separateness that pervades our waking moments. It is no surprise that Roger Waters does not get along well with the other band members...the Wall is HIS story, HIS HISTORY...and, if he's like me, his present and future. God bless anyone who wakes up next to the wall, calmly puts on his costume and goes out among millions who will never understand. I am three weeks shy of my 66th birthday...the show is almost over, and not a single person has related to me the thoughts I have just shared with you.

    This band was so damned ahead of their time. This was pretty much the first time, if NOT the first time a concert was set up like this. Nowadays, we have similar things with big spectacle shows. But THIS was definitely different from ANYTHING that came before it, and its effects are still being felt in large scale concerts today.

      That’s odd putting the Genesis era, 70s and 80s together, because that would include both the Peter Gabriel years and the Phil Collins years in the same category, which in my opinion are completely different. Hoping for that Genesis reunion huh? Man I would pay big money for that

      I just found it. It's actually not in HD as it was recorded on a few video cameras and the sound was not off the mixing console. Nonetheless it's a VAST improvement! Just search for this [NEW SOURCE] Pink Floyd The Wall Live At Nassau 02/27/80 and enjoy! Watch the "Notelu" version. The other one (looks Russian or something) is only 360p and therefore garbage.

    • @thezeroroom
      @thezeroroom 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      There was another 2-part version that I'd bookmarked but the only reason I did so was for easy access. There was nothing special about it at all. Curiously it was recently made a private video so it can't be seen anymore. Trust me. You're not missing anything. Notelu's restoration is THE definitive version for the time being. A 13.5 GB .mkv version is available at archive DOT org/details/PFLiveAtNassau

    It always amazes me, that these Concerts were so stunning all round, and performed 31 times ( I saw 6 of them ) YET, there has never been ONE that has ever been shown to be of watchable quality, and lets be honest, this one is just about O.K......but that's it....What happened to the REAL " Wall " Concert footage.......

    • @HDPinkFloyd
      @HDPinkFloyd  6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      My opinion is that no quality footage was ever made, I say this because I am sure it would have surfaced by now. Some say Roger has footage of quality, why would he hide this footage? TV production shot portions of 3 songs, of good quality, that is all i believe is out there.

      Yes, I sort of agree with you there to a point, but I can distinctly remember manned Cameras descending from the ceiling at Earls Court for most of the second half at the Concerts I saw in 1981, in fact I think I have pictures of them during " Run like Hell " at one show, and I recall reading that the Concerts were filmed for use in " The Wall " film released in 1982, but no Concert footage ever appeared in that Film.. One of those mysteries of " The Wall" enigma I suppose....
