I tried a few things to stop wind buffeting. I replaced the Klock Werks shield with one from Freedom shields. It helped some, and no more bugs in my face like I got with the Klock Werks. I haven’t tried the Tank Lift from DK, but I have tried their Air Wings. With those you can direct more air to the heads, but they didn’t reduce the buffeting at all. IMO DK should stop making claims about their products reducing buffeting.
@@mrnonpc9885 I agree. I think anyone who makes these claims should have to show the “wind tunnel” proof. Maybe they did, I just haven’t seen it. Thanks for sharing your experience. 👊🏼🤘🏼
Since the tank lift did not work DK does have what he calls ''Cooling Deflector Wings for Touring''. ''The functions of the Cooling Deflector Wings are: 1. Reduce the air coming over the top of the tank, around the sides of the tank, And between the upper & lower fairings. 2. This results in a reduction of air hitting the rider and passenger chest, which reduces buffeting/helmet & glasses bobble. 3. Redirect that air to flow over the engine for better cooling. We have consistently seen engine temperatures reduced by 8-15 degrees with the CDW's''. Perhaps worth a try?
Yes, I've seen those as well, but I don't care for the looks of them. I know that some people love the looks of them and have said they help, but it's just not my taste. 🤷🏽♂️
just did a test ride with the whole kit myself and my buffeting decreased a ton, I'm on a 21 Road King special without a screen and also the tank gap was nice and tight, i will try it out with the screen later on
New to your channel - love your bike! I've got a '21 SG Special and have eliminated virtually all buffeting. 7" Freedom shield, and added the adjustable batwing fairing wind deflectors. Boring solution, but it worked!
i put fangs/fork wind deflectors and put the mirrors under the handle bar. helped a lot. ended up putting mirrors back couldn't see anything but my elbows in traffic
I wish I could like and laugh at this comment. Thanks for the info on the fork wind deflectors and thanks for giving me a good laugh with the "couldn't see anything but my elbows in traffic" comment. 🤣 I can relate. I felt the SAME way when mine were under the bags. I was like "why do people like this other than looking cool". 😅
Great video and as much as I didn't want to, thinking of getting a Road Glide instead as everyone says that is the buffeting fix. Well there is the fork fangs but according to DK if the outside temp is 70 degrees or so, the engine temp can raise 20 degrees or so, so not good. A 8.5'' Klock Werks should work good for your height but it is the under the tank wind buffeting that sounds like the real problem.
Good review, I have the same buffeting issue. I often ride with one hand along side the tank to deflect the wind that comes straight up and try’s to lift my helmet . Looks like I have the same windshield. For a “touring” bike it can be very frustrating on long higher speed highway rides.
Never seen a tank lift in the rear. Typically you just lift the front for higher angle and air flow. Decreasing head buffeting has me skeptical honestly. Physics don't add up there but def. looking at trying this. :)
Just installed 1.5" tank lift on my 2011 Road King. Fuel level low to make the lift easier. Parked bike in level garage with 1/8 tank on the display and the tank gauge both reading the same. After install, tank gauge shows EMPTY on speedo gauge and tank gauge. FYI...
pete again. i forgot to mention that i went on a trip with a buddy who rode a street glide. i had my bmw. we swapped and i could not wait to get the beemer back because of the head buffeting. it was horrid. try a taller windshield.
Yeah, without a taller windshield, these aren't as touring friendly as people make them out to be. I'm interested to know what kind of BMW you have too. Those are some nice bikes!
this sounds too simplistic to me but, how about a taller windshield. i put a super tall one (i had to look through it) on a victory cross country and i could ride with the full face helmet windscreen up and talk to my lady. of course, no buffeting and all around protection. my bmw has an adjustable windshield. i usually set it so i am just seeing over the top of the windshield and no buffeting. pete
The only way to get rid of helmet buffering is fork mounted air deflectors, I put a set on my forks just to check it out and you could light a cigarette riding down the Hy way , matter of fact I had to take them off in the hot summer months because I was just not getting any air but they work and if you don’t want the chrome or metal ones I used the ones I had for a template and cut some out of an old windshield-PERFECT
I bought Klock Werks for my street glide and hated it. Then I bought a Long Ride Shield for my Ultra Limited and it was much better, and it’s a lot cheaper. Clear View also makes a good shield, also a lot cheaper than a Klock Werks. When I had the Klock Werks, I felt it was more for looks and riding around town, but it was bad on the highway.

@@MichaelBertini if you want less buffering coming up from the tank then definitely get the HD fork deflectors. I put lowers on my RK and took the wind deflectors on and I started notice more buffering coming up so I put them back. So now I have fork deflectors and lower fairing on my bike.
@@Heavy69Metal Oh people were saying that it creates a nasty gap between the seat and the tank and also that it causes locking the seat down kind of issues.

Drag Specialties. I have a video on it with a product number.
something you didn't read your directions completely , you can adjust the gap by moving the tank to thre rear ,
@@stevenfergerson1485 yeah, I need to do a better job reading those damn directions 😅 I appreciate the comment 👊🏼
How tall are you? What helmet are you using? I have a 17 and use a full face Harley carbon fiber helmet and have zero buffeting.
I'm 6' 0" and I use a full carbon fiber Ruroc. My buffeting is all gone after I went up one windshield size.
With the tank tilted does it impact how the fuel gauge reads ...?
Good question, but I didn't see an impact on the fuel gauge

Yeah a taller windshield helped solve this problem a lot. There is still some, but not nearly as much as before. Also, what kind of BMW do you have?
Something I've been looking at as well.
Going to a larger shield helped a massive amount. Almost completely eliminated the wind buffeting.
What size Klock shield are you running?
5.5" which is wrong for my height, right? 😅

That's great to know, Tarin. I ended up with a taller windshield and that removed all buffeting up to 140mph. 🤘🏼
The buffetting is because your windshield is too low. I put an 8" klockwerks on my SG and it went away.
Yeah I agree
If that’s a Klock Werks wind shield, get rid of it. It’s one of the worst shields for a Street Glide. That’s what might be causing your buffeting.
Any other windshield you recommend?

Doesn't do a damn thing for buffetting. That kit is a bad design too.

Fork lowers will fix your problem. Most people wont run them cause they don't look cool.
Yeah someone told me the same. I might consider them though, even if they don't look cool. Anything above 120+mph is rough with the wind.
