Thanks for the video and explainer. I've always felt the chess board plays an important role in engaging the environment of the game. About 2 decades before, studying in Prague with my old Nordic friend, it was a Soviet times magnet chess board seated at a Cafe window placed on a chamfered street corner. In more recent years, the marble chess set handed down from my Father. Currently I have 4 sets. This is really a beautiful board, fitting for home display and travel. I like the simplicity and quality that has been described.

Nifty board. This is the kind of board you set up in a nice house and you have chess-playing guests. I have a solid, top-of-the-line Drueke board with wooden Drueke pieces which I paid about the same price for the set, complete with clock. My set is suitable for tournament play, but this one is more suitable for house guests in a nice house. The only negative is that I would prefer a trim or border on each side.

A nice accessory would be to make a collapsible border about an 1-2 inches should a person want that look. Just a thought. I’m going to purchase this board. Really beautiful piece!😀

An amazing chess board that is surprisingly quick to assemble and use. I recommend this board for players rated 1800+. If you are rated below 1800, stick with the normal folding boards with scratch marks and uneven squares.
What does it matter ?? Any chess player can play a 10 dollar board to 400 board rules and stuff still the same u get me doesnt have to be anything fancy its thw skills not the board brother

At $450 not so much.
I understand how one might think so, but: it's 1) a hardwood chessboard 2) hand-made 3) in the USA. All three of these factors contribute significantly to the final price. Both the retailer (Chess House) and the woodworker (JLP) need to turn a profit to stay in business.
You're right in that this would be "awesome at $100" - it would be a steal at $100, and I'd feel guilty paying only that, frankly. For $100, a veneered board would be expected (and acceptable!); at first glance $450 seems steep, but accounting for what goes into this board, I would submit that it's eminently reasonable.

What wood is made of? The round stikers are to cover the neodymium magnets, in that case I guess they will come in dark chocolate and cream? It seems to me that it would not have to be worth more than US $ 300 , but not much less.
The round pads are optional as pads for on a table surface to add a fraction of separation and avoid any scratching of the wood. However since this time we're not recommending they be used, let alone necessary.

It's not for the ultra price sensitive - it's for those who are looking for something completely unique and very well made. Not for everyone obviously.

I wonder if anyone thought about the issue of fitting a board of over 50 to 60 cm (roughly 19.68” to 23.62”) in the living room or anywhere else to be honest.
Most of the forniture or units in my house don’t go over 40 cm depth (15.74”) which mean that whatever premium or standard board I have wont go anywhere; unless I place it on the dinner table or to a huge coffee table which no everyone have the space for or like the idea of it.
I was looking for a foldable solution and JLP have made a premium one which I really like, but still, is not the same for storage. Here you have something nice that will look good pretty much anywhere in the house and will occupy a little space.
- Is the board pricy? Yes - I can understand that
- Is the board for everyone? No
But again, the storage solution and the nice design are very appealing factors in the choice.
Personally I will try to score one. The price is high but lets see.

$450 is a bit steep. $295 is more like it but it is very well made.

@@ChessHouse after a check tones of boards i would say 300 now but no more, its like a 200 hundred board you cut in 4 and drill litle hole that you glue magnet not so hard to do ,ok you got the box and the lether +originality .... 300 not 500 common you could have the all table for that price
