I agree with you on the velcro pouches being a step backwards on the SOE pouch. I asked John on a live if we could get a version with molle on the sides instead. He didn't seem interested. He said it's because the old design (the 1 QT Canteen Cover) had molle and he never saw anyone use that molle. I would argue that the old design was more purpose built for a canteen rather than multipurpose like the new design. In other words, the old design was simply smaller and not as deep front-to-back; so the molle on the old version was really mostly front facing rather than there being a left and right side. I own two of the old design, and I agree with his observations; I don't have any desire to attach anything to that front facing molle. However, I personally see this new design as more like a CQB/Patrol/Rallyman mag pouch, so why not treat it like that? Have one option with at least a single column of molle on the sides and another option with pistol mag pouches (with buckles) on the sides. It's so close to being the only canteen and general purpose pouch I'll ever buy, but I just can't get behind the velcro pouches. I couldn't say all of this on that live due to the more fast-paced nature and limited word count. I also thought I was alone in this thinking, but maybe I'm not after watching this video. Perhaps I should send an email with this text and a subject line of "Constructive Criticism on the 1QT Canteen Pouch Improved". Great video, sir. Looking forward to seeing more.
I used some of those Brit pouches way back in the day. Had one on my LBE belt as a catch all and another I was able to attach to my Alice ruck. Loved the silent closure
An idea: No one makes an updated 2 quart canteen for all those cheap 2 quart covers. I have no idea how to get that started but that's my idea. Thanks for the video.
@@caseyloftis yep! I hate disrobing just to fill water. And all the kits with integrated comebacks that look all cool and compact....you literally take all your shit off just to refill water. Hope.no one shoots at you while you're near the water Buffalo.
@@samrussell0331 I just don't like hydration bladders or the tubes they use cause they seemingly become pretty unsanitary even with cleaning, they are just far more work and inconvenience then having both nalgene's and canteens on you.

Going from that to all Velcro was a technological step backward

This might be a weird question (and I meant to ask you at Alumni Weekend) is that canteen BPA free?

Canteens > Camelbacks
Canteen with camelback hose > Camelback

I have that. The one I have isn’t as great as I’d hoped.
i treat my camelback as a sort of auxillary water supply, only using in time sensitive situations.
