Offgrid Workshop Project Pt.5 - Putting Tin on the Roof of the Workshop

- In this video we work at getting the roof done on the offgrid workshop. First we do some quick repairing on the paneling on the roof. We slap on some felt paper and then work on laying strapping for the tin roof. We ended up going with a red tin and I think that it turned out just great! The workshop is now well protected from the elements as we work at getting the next projects done!

I live off the land in a self reliant and self sufficient lifestyle. The land provides me with everything I need. My offgrid cabin is solar powered, heated by a wood stove and most everything I eat comes from the land; fish, eggs from my chickens, and many different wild game species. The lifestyle I live is essentially expense free and blesses me with the opportunity to do whatever I please.
In the winter months we head out on the trapline and ethically harvest fur bearing animals. Through moderate and sustainable methods I snare and trap these animals and work on, and sell the pelts at auction which provides a decent income for me to invest in my off the grid homestead and lifestyle.

It is bitter sweet... I got a reply once, and it was certainly a bright spot in my day.
My favorite channel right now! I have shared your channel with my 16 year old son who is into all the same things you are. I want him to see what's possible if you stick to your guns and suffer through some "Hardships", looks like your having a blast through all of it. Too many people think they need a massive house and a new truck to be happy, you prove that its not the case. Keep up the inspiring work! A good dog, warm stove, solid truck, nice rifle and a kick ass chainsaw is nearly all a man needs.

You had me worried while you were on the roof. I was there with you. Lol hoping that you didn't slip. It was great seeing you so excited about the tin roof. Great work on the roof! Cap it off and dry in the top center ends and you you'll have less worries. Can't wait to see you fire up the stove and get the siding where you want it! Sweet job brother good for you! Last weekend I converted one of those Harbor freight carports by using only half of it from the peak down one side and then down to the ground off my outside garage wall and I made it 24 feet long and used strapping and tin roof with 8 feet in the center being clear plastic corrugated roofing so it adds so much sunlight! It’s good to get it weathered in because that snow waits for no man LOL. Thanks for taking us along, you’re getting there!

I'm really stoked for you - love your Canadian brogue. Amazing how you're able, at your age, to live at the lowest common denominator of life. Your living proof that the pioneer way of life is still alive.. Yeah, I think some metal siding will cover those holes and make the sides harder and easier to heat. Too bad you don't at least answer a few of your fan's notes - they may come to think you just don't care what we all think and that my young friend - is suicidal for your channel.

Your uncle going to want his shed back. It is looking great. Lumnah Acres channel New England area just bought 500 acres and has a beaver problem. Maybe you can tell him how to trap them. Check him out. AL trapped a beaver today on his vlog and they cooked it for dinner. I don’t think he needs much advice. 11/13
I watch their channel too. He has a major problem with one dam they built creating about 5 ft of water. The owner even stuck a long metal rod down in the water a tied a motion camera on it. Several times he has dug out the dams and threw the limbs and all out. They have made their presence known with the gnawed up stumps and one piece of wood was unreal what had been eat on it. Pls check out their latest video I believe. I know he will be really impressed with what all you have built and cleared away and your trapping skills, also all your wood. Excellent job on you and gramps bringing the building you are making over into your shop plus trading out the heavy stoves by yourself! The black cover then the tin looks awesome. First time too. NO MATTER THE AGE, EITHER GENDER, we all enjoy watching you figure everything out then get it done. Yeah, give your dog some more attention, talking/playing/scratching, giving it some treats. Luminah Acres put up a video today. It's in my recommended section. He trapped a beaver already. He's holding up the square trap with a beaver in it, in the thumbnail. He may not need any suggestions. Looks like he's got it covered.

Trick I have always done is add a bead of lexol sealant or in a pinch 100 silicone on the overlaps of the metal. It helps keep it from blowing off and added security of leaks. Good bang for the buck. Keep up the hard work.

Tin is definitely the way to go!! We redid our entire remote off grid cabin this summer in tin. The only thing that I seen that might bite you in the ass is when you put those “stitch” screws on the seams. If you plan on ever shoveling off roof with a roof rake or shovel watch you don’t snag those screws as their above the valley of the tin. Our old roof was like that and over 20 years of them screws getting snagged by shovels they were getting pulled out of the tin.

Really enjoy some of your sayings. Things I've never heard before. Now I'm going backwards and watching more of the traplines and have to wait for new ones. You're a very impressive young man. I just hope he catches on to being as capable as you are. I like the red metal. We ordered metal on the roof of our portable cabin being delivered to our lake lot end of December. I did consider red but went with light tan to keep it cooler in the summer here is Missouri, USA. You always make me a nervous wreck when your on the roofs. Watched chicken 🐓 coop build.
