    I worked in London in the mid 2000s and had the incredible luck of a few meetings with Jack Bruce and he was a lovely and charming bloke who was enlightening and insightful in a very earnest and unpretentious manner.

    Enjoyed this on the whole but it was sorely lacking - no Savoy Brown, Chicken Shack or early Fleetwood Mac?

    Would have liked to see mention of Fleetwood Mac, as some members were with John Mayall, etc., Enjoyable though with some decent footage which I had not seen before.

      They got their own whole documentary in the same series, just search for Rock Family Trees Fleetwood Mac. Mayall appears in that one also.

    Saw this doc 20 yrs ago,amazing info and footage the Blues scene was thriving during the 60s with bands like those mentioned with some casualties along the way like keith Relf and Graham Bond who could have done so much more if not for his behavior!

    for me the ultimate british r & b album is 'to mum from ansley and the boys' by the ansley dunnar retaliation. classic stuff virtually on all instruments. f...g great singer, too. super groove. some of the best hammond organ work ever. super blues songs like pearls on a string.

      I am almost ashamed to confess that I have never listened to AD, but I have just grabbed a copy of TMFAATB, and I'll be back when I've listened to it. I just had a brief look at his wikipedia entry and the three most notable facts that leaped out were that he is from Liverpool ( no surprise there ) , he is on a literally ridiculous number of albums ( including my favourite Bowie album, Diamond Dogs ) , and, most importantly, he is not to be confused with Sly Dunbar ( an easy mistake to make ................ ) .

    42:20 To claim Britisher Graham Bond as a Rhythm & Blues "Pioneer" is the same as claiming Ludwig Van Beethoven was a pioneer of electronic music! Two *UTTERLY RIDICULOUS CLAIMS INDEED!* I stand by what I said earlier, there are *NO* British R. & B. singers or groups, nor duos or trios. Britain does very good Rock & Pop, but *DOES NOT DO R. & B.!*

    • @malaquiasalfaro81
      @malaquiasalfaro81 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thus isn’t “British” R&B an appropriate title?

    • @neilforbes416
      @neilforbes416 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@malaquiasalfaro81 No, it isn't! The British do great Rock and Pop, but R. & B. is specifically an American genre that only *TWO* people outside America have *EVER* mastered. Those two, now sadly deceased, were both Aussies! They were *Renee Geyer and Doug Parkinson!*

    • @malaquiasalfaro81
      @malaquiasalfaro81 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@neilforbes416 so why is it that an Australian can do a form of R&B but a Brit can’t. What is your qualifier?

    • @neilforbes416
      @neilforbes416 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@malaquiasalfaro81 There's no tradition in Britain on which to base a genre like R & B. Black oppression spawned the genre as it did for Jazz. But for two Aussies to do the genre is a tricky one to answer. Parkinson & Geyer were a rarity, as there were no other Aussie acts that could do R. & B.

    • @malaquiasalfaro81
      @malaquiasalfaro81 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@neilforbes416 could it be that British R&B is a different genre than R&B and that is why we classify it differently?

  • @neilforbes416
    @neilforbes416 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

    This is *UTTER NONSENSE!* British soloists, duos, trios or groups(four or more members) *DO NOT DO RHYTHM & BLUES!* British artists will take an American R. & B. track and record a creditable Rock or Pop version, but *NOT* R. & B.! Outside the USA there have only *EVER* been *TWO* people who were capable of doing *authentic* R. & B., and they were *BOTH* Australian! They were *Renee Geyer* who passed away late in 2022, and *Doug Parkinson* who died in 2021. Between them, these two Aussies could take any R. & B. track and perform it in *True Rhythm & Blues Style* and could turn any straight-out Pop, Rock, or even Country song and turn it into an R. & B. number. This is something British acts, no matter how good they are, simply *CANNOT* achieve!

      @@neilforbes416 Opinions are all well and good, but claims are another matter. How do you know who has and hasn't heard the two acts you mention ? RG has at least eight albums worth of stuff on TH-cam and DP is fairly well represented.
