Funny thing about Rocky and Freckle, they’re both absolutely insane in the most violent chaotic way possible. It’s just that Freckle is much better at keeping it in check and it only seems to rear its head when he has his hands on weaponry. Rocky’s been nutty since childhood and Freckle was often the target. There are dubbed side comics of their childhood on the official Lackadaisy YT that shows just some of Rocky and Freckle’s misadventures when they were small. In fact, Freckle isn’t his real name. It’s a nickname because Rocky shaved Freckle’s face when they were small and he has one little freckle on his cheek. This likely won’t be in the final product if the animation continues but it’s a funny piece of lore from a fan question.
Rocky was going insane at the stone quarry because it is owned by Wick Sable, the guy in the tux at the speakeasy, and rocky doesn’t like Wick so he wanted to destroy his stone quarry.

Lackadaisy is a very established IP that has been on the internet for a while now. It is originally a webcomic by Tracy Butler that started in 2006. So she has been working with Lackadaisy for almost 20 years now. The comic is still going on, it has just been on a hiatus due to the making of the pilot (you should find the link to it in the pilot's description). Tracy is has indeed crafted a very interesting story with a lot of characters. You saw some of them in the pilot, even though very briefly. The pilot sort of merges together some storylines and aspects of the story/characters that were built up slowly during the comic to establish the characters in a more concrete way. There is definitely a lot more to these characters than meets the eye. Tracy is also known for her extensive research to the time period to create accurate frames to the world and the setting she is building. There are some things some people likely missed in the pilot cuz they aren't familiar with the IP. Like why Mordecai missed his shots/didn't take the shot while aiming at the main trio, Rocky's unhinged energy, why Viktor is protective over Ivy... etc. Answers can be found in the comic and if the Lackadaisy team is successful in pitching the pilot to potential funders, likely in form of animation as well in the future. The comic has its unique feel to it though and gradually develops to an insanely beautiful creation as Tracy herself grows as an artist. If you guys are interested in taking a look, it is well worth it.
I turn 18 soon. I vaguely recall stumbling upon Lackadaisy with my older brother back in 2009 and thinking it was the coolest thing ever. It’s what got me into 20’s themed shit. The fact that it’s still ongoing is crazy. Tracy’s like, what, in her 40’s now? The dedication this lady has to keep it going after all this time.
The construction lines are intentional to replicate how old hand drawn animation was done in the past. It seems alot of people don't like it, but I find it incredibly charming, perhaps its because I have always favored rough sketches over crisp and finished.
A lot of people like it, like me. I love it! There’s a movie called Wolfwalkers and it does the same thing for some parts of the movie, but in more disciplined societal parts the lines are clean and super geometric. Seriously a good movie if you haven’t seen it!
I love it! I think most people don't know it's intentional and were just a bit worried that the final product is not "fully polished". I was like that before learning it's an artistic choice 😅😂
Yet another fun fact but when rockey smashes into the gate while they are driving it says "sable". The same guy sitting at the bar seeming freaked out by hearing Rocky talk about dynamite. Rocky famously hates Sable in the comic so his maniacal laughter is because he's excited to mess up sables buisness. You'll notice he's all smug to him later. And at the after credit scene you can see Sable witness the damage and.. well he ain't happy 😂
The reason why Ivy is so soft on freckle is because she loves him and in the comic which this is from ivy and Calvin a.k.a freckle are dating it's so cute
"No way that car has still got the structural integrity that it does." Old cars were actually built out of way tougher materials than modern cars. Unfortunately, this side effect meant they didn't absorb impact well, so crashing into something meant either going straight through it...or coming to a stop so suddenly as to turn the occupants into a red paste on the dashboard. Modern cars are built of more crunchable materials in order to absorb/cushion as much of that impact as possible to give the occupants a fighting chance of survival against the sheer force of going from 60 to 0 in a second. Also that car was likely going 40 mph tops, and crashed through the thin wall of a cheap wooden barn.
I feel like we're entering a TH-cam animated series Renaissance. We now have three high-quality animated series on TH-cam. We have Helluva Boss, Murder drones, and now we have Lackadaisy!
If you ever get a chance, look up Big Top Burger. It's unique and has great characters, and the VO for Mordecai Heller plays a part in it's second season onwards.
If I understood the comic well enough, Rocky is essentially homeless, or something like it. His family isn't around, and he's been through a lot, so Ms. M doesn't want to crush his spirits on top of it all. At least that's what I get from it. I read some of the comic, but it was a while ago.
The Bartender, Viktor, is a former heavy for Lackadaisy, he became the bartender after he got kneecapped, i think by Moredcai. He also has a Father/Daughter relationship with Ivy, that's why he's against her drinking. It's explained more in the comic
13:10 Sometimes, late at night cats get full of crazy energy. Affectionately referred to by cat-owners as the "Zoomies". I believe that's what's depicted here! Nah, but in all seriousness, Rocky knows he's in Wick's Quarry and that Quarry's are fun playgrounds full of heavy machinery and such. Lol
That would explain Ivy's reaction to him. "Oh is it play time now?" I was wondering about that I originally had just chalked that up to her reffering to Rocky just getting ready to do something Rocky-like.
Maybe that, but from what I've heard, in the comics that this pilot is based on Rocky hates Wick Sable, the businessman in the speakeasy. And well, when he sees the quarry he sees it has Wick Sables name all over it. So of course Rocky would have fun making life a little harder for Wick.
The voice actor for Mordecai is a long time fan of Lackadaisy (ithink his screen name is ProZD of something), he used to do Comic dubs, even when Lackadaisy started doing official ones, they had ProZD stay on as Moredcai's voice.
Also, idk if this has been mentioned yet, but the "Oil Baron" in the pub is the proprietor of the mining yard that the smugglers drove through XD it said Sable on the sign and Rocky said "Mr.Sable" as he walked to the stage XD
Alot of people actually like the rough linework being visible, its vert reminiscent of silver age Disney. (ie Dalmations, Robin Hood, ect) And what hooks ME personally, is how almost every character seems to be secretly psychotic in their own special way. Like Freckle's "fire" and Mordicai being a calculating killer.
There's a reason they react to Mordecai pulling out his 1911 with absolute panic when Serafine's BAR didn't worry them as much. They know him and what he's capable of, he used to work for the same outfit as them as their number one enforcer.
Rocky, has brain damage from a previous job he went on. Got his head split by a large farm tool. Calvin/Freckle/Torpedo Boy, has split personality issues. Wanted to be a cop and got thrown out of the academy, won't tell anyone why.
He was zany before the brain damage, and I don’t think that storyline has happened yet in the animated version. Not totally sure though. He is definitely a case of hardcore hyperactive-impulsive ADHD, though. The head injury helped reveal that, especially his response when Ivy tries teasing him about his face. Instead of cheering him up, he just dejectedly mumbles “there’s no helping my face; it’s only abided in small doses.” Like, he knows he’s different. He knows he has too much energy, he’s too loud, he’s too bouncy, can never sit still. He knows people get annoyed by him, but he can’t help; he just has too much energy and it has to come out. It also implies that, like many people with that form of ADHD, he deliberately uses his zanier behavior as a way to cover up his own feelings of inadequacy, his rejection dysphoria, his general feelings of worthlessness and never being able to measure up. If anything, the head injury just magnified what was already there, and prevents him from being able to hide the darker side of it the way he used to.

So the reason why Wick is freaking the hell out at the end- he owns the stone quarry that Rocky basically blew up and flooded. Sooooo… that’s a major loss in profit for him.
They didn’t leave them in, they _put them back_ in. They had to do that because the animation programs they use was _too_ clean for the style they wanted.
Freckle and Ivy are both 18, and dating in the comic, rocky surprisingly is 23-24, one last thing, the sketchwork is left in intentionally probably to remind people of a 1920's era cartoon

Almost every Lackadaisy Pilot reaction I've seen so far. You all call it furries. Just to clarify, Tracy has said that she isn't a furry. It's just a comic and now becoming a series, about anthropomorphic cats with guns and alcohol. And them trying to keep the Lackadaisy speakeasy open. And this is coming from a furry myself, I don't understand why everyone nowadays calls anything involving anthro animals furries...and you can still like anthro animals and not be a furry. Your only a furry if you call yourself one. But you don't even need a fursona or fursuit to be a furry as well.
as someone who owns an orange cat i can confirm they're absolutely batshit insane ❤️ we've had a lot of cats, but our ginger lad is definitely another level of unhinged
A fun fact about the little pistol, those are/were utterly useless. Freckle's aim being so bad with it is much more to do with the gun than it is his aim. Its iron sight is utterly useless, which doesn't help it's tiny bullets that make its range abysmal.

theyre cajun. creole is similar, but theyre cajun. the versions of french are notably different and fairly easy to distinguish once you stsrt learning about them, and the demographics that speak them are pretty exclusive, with cajuns being white, and creole being black or mixed race (usually black and white).
With so many artists on the team (over 160, according to the video description) you think something like that would not slip through the cracks. It's probably an intentional design choice.
I'm one of those that somehow never heard of this anywhere. The animation, I love. ❤ Current thoughts, I love Mitzi, the owner, the most. She gives main character vibes to me. I don't know yet what story is being told, but I would adore a story told from Mitzi's view, where she is the (or a) main character. I love everyone we were introduced to at the bar with Mitzi so much, except Viktor. I just have no idea what his deal is rn. I agree, I do not like Rocky. But maybe there's some intent there? Like that feeling is valid? I'm more interested in Mitzi and them than the kids. The bad guys were really really fun! The double-dealing aspect and the FEDs is interesting. Man, I'm conflicted but I am for sure so following!
Mitzi is FANTASTIC. You get a lot from her in comics, so you’re very likely to get more from her if the animated series comes to fruition. Rocky and her have a sweet relationship where he makes her smile when she’s upset and she encourages him when nobody else will. Which is why Rocky would do anything for her. Viktor has a pretty extensive backstory. We don’t get much of it from the pilot tho, but his relationship with Ivy is cute and his relationship with Mordecai is so funny. Rocky is a character who is intentionally written the way he is. He’s an outcast with severe mental issues and not much of a support system. And a lot of characters find him annoying, tho a couple do care for him deeply. There’s way more to him than meets the eye, he is putting on a heavy facade
Me looking for vids on lackadaisy to compare and contrast on the animation work and the peice in general. furries are animals with anthropromorphic characteristics and these animals are walking and talking and acting like humans so yes they are furries, not all furries are just humans wearing a fursuit, it's also actual animals with human traits
@@CookiedoughUwU Furries are the irl people who have anthro animal versions of themselves called fursona, fursuit or no fursuit, some simply have drawings. Characters that are animals with human characteristics are anthropomorphic animals or just shortened to anthros
@@klltsun_2576 I know that's why I said not all furries and I didn't mention the part where humans could have partial suits or just a tail and ears since 99% of people's first thought of furries are usually just a full fursuit vs a cat ears and tail or maybe even a partial suit. Also when I say furries I simply mean cartoon furries or IRL furries. IRL furries are obviously just people wearing a full or partial suit or just ears and tail or is just in the fandom and loved anthro characters and cartoon furries are actual animals that are anthro.

Doesn’t seem likely.
@@ma.2089 All of this is fair, but we also know zero percent of the circumstances around his death except that she and Mordecai were involved.
I keep getting called a furry for liking this show. I just think the cats are cute and I enjoy the historical setting, leave me alone.
Fun Fact: Mordecai did in fact hit the shot at 11:47, it hit their radiator on the engine in the car, thats why it was smoking.
ive been watching ppl react to this for days after having seen it myself and then i jumped into the comics and now i want more
also yalls voices are way loud
When Rocky makes you wanna pick up a string instrument again for the first time since....sixth grade? XD
in Russian voice "NO FANART!!!"
The Great CATsby, you guys! C'mon, it was right there!
The linework is definitely there, and I'm told it's by design.
7:25 the song Rocky is humming is an Irish song called Whiskey in the Jar. Metallica did a version of it.
You didnt even talk about the cat who owns the quary looking at his destroyed quary at the end
I loved the line as soon as Mitzi can in screen. “Do we need to remake MILF madness?” It’s funnier the second time.
The only thing that amazes me about lackades is how slowly it has grown. Tracy butler is a god. Every single pixel that she has produced is art.
as someone who owns an orange cat i can confirm they're absolutely batshit insane ❤️ we've had a lot of cats, but our ginger lad is definitely another level of unhinged
I live next door to an orange cat. It literally shits on our car.
A fun fact about the little pistol, those are/were utterly useless. Freckle's aim being so bad with it is much more to do with the gun than it is his aim. Its iron sight is utterly useless, which doesn't help it's tiny bullets that make its range abysmal.
At 9:25 Rocky says "keep confounding keep confounding"
When I first watched I thought he said "Get the Browning"
@@supersasukemaniac I wish they had a browning 50 cal
8:23 Yes! Someone elas knows what gun it is.
Not just a BAR but a sawn off one similar to the one used by Clyde Barrow of the infamous Bonnie & Clyde gang.
@@launcesmechanist9578 huh. That's really interesting
@@littleraskal2621 What can I say? I love history and I tend to pay attention to little details and nuances.
@@launcesmechanist9578 Huh. It feels weird to see someone who understand me. You litsen to Sabaton?
Also, with that profile pic i must ask. Är du svensk?
@@littleraskal2621 Listen to Sabaton all the time. As for the image, I get that a lot but no I’m American. The image was the Naval Ensign for a nation in a fanfiction I wrote years ago.
Ivy is the goddaughter of Atlas
Wait is that really Miss M's first name? Neat.
@@gatodestructo4933 huh?
Atlas was miss m’s (mitzi) husband
Ivy is her husbands goddaughter

Ah! Okay. I need to knuckle down and read the comics. I already wanted to know more about the Savoy Siblings, only to find out my man Nico was a boxer and Serafine likes to dip her toes in the occult.
The place Thay wrecked was for Mr sable's
As a furry, this is by far my favourite animated show despite it only having a pilot. I honestly think its great enough to surpass Helluva Boss
You guys are the first people that I've seen that recognized the B.A.R
COD World At War taught us well 👍🏻
I’m actually pretty sure that freckle (the orange cat) is a tiger 🐅
My explanation is his agile like body and ability to climb well, his calm/hostile behavior, and his appearance.
In this age of dull CGI and the enroaching flood of AI garbage, I found myself appreciating the visible construction lines; a nice reminder of all the hard work that actual artists put into this 😊
Wow a personalized greeting, earns a subscribe, lmao🤣
This is from 2006
Also Hella, i didn't know there was an after credits XD
Just so u guys know, Rocky, Freckle, and Ivy aren't minors. They're around 18.
theyre cajun. creole is similar, but theyre cajun. the versions of french are notably different and fairly easy to distinguish once you stsrt learning about them, and the demographics that speak them are pretty exclusive, with cajuns being white, and creole being black or mixed race (usually black and white).
Literally not even two seconds in and that stupid intro had me rolling.
I love coming back to you guys channel
"a fox in space" episode 2 also dropped recently...
Supposedly the line work was intentional
With so many artists on the team (over 160, according to the video description) you think something like that would not slip through the cracks. It's probably an intentional design choice.
Wait, is that man Mordecai was talking to at the end voiced by THE Joshua Tomar? Or am I crazy?
Idk
Maybe but prozd Is the Mordecai VA
Main character? All of them are main characters! Villains included )
And there's a long-running comic, so of course it is well-written!
Ivy’s definitely still a cat, not a rat. Just a sleeker breed, like an Oriental shorthair maybe.
3:45 The great Catsby if you will :P
*edit*
3:50 Oh. That... also works
@@ma.2089 I absolutely love that. I can't wait!
The guy on the left looks like Dave Brockie.
Michael's Plan is to become the most famous person on the Internet don't tell him I know his secret 🤫
I think Bugs Bunny is my favorite furry
You ever heard of the Webcomic Scoob and Shag?
I think the driver cat is a Russian blue cat.
3:50 The Great...
Catsby
that intro was enough for a sub, its a mood sometimes
im late to this too. Loved the reaction. Now watch murder drones episode 4. Crazy shit.
Guys I’m not a furry I just like helluva boss 😭
Im a furry and i dont like hazbin hotel and helluva boss
You two have something new to react to when it comes to murder drones
0:03 you fucking got me.
I do get some Bonnie and Clyde vibes here...
Go read the comic.
This video happens after that.
You should react to the mini episode and the song they have called liquid gold that has lore
Hella, so soon after the last upload XD
Speaking of alcohol, coincidentally
I had to take a shot to that
Edit#2: I'm drinking Everclear
Me looking for vids on lackadaisy to compare and contrast on the animation work and the peice in general. Then i get called out in the first 5 seconds by "welcome furries" lmao, I'm new to this channel and i could tell i liked it just from that
Tldr: furry gets called out and likes funny youtube men
there cats not furries lol
The characters are cats, the creators and fans are furries lol
furries are animals with anthropromorphic characteristics and these animals are walking and talking and acting like humans so yes they are furries, not all furries are just humans wearing a fursuit, it's also actual animals with human traits
@@ethanmoon3925The creator is not a furry. She had said so in the past
There cats and no she did not kill atlas
Maybe
I mean, I read the comic after this came out, and, I don't think it's really been confirmed or denied up to this point.
I personally feel like she might have.
We cant be so sure 👀
@@ChiropteraNightfall I don't think she did.
@@ChiropteraNightfall Mordecai literally said she didn’t do it. And she has no reason to lie to save face. And considering she has absolutely no reason to keep trying to save Lackadaisy besides keeping Atlus’ memory alive and the ppl employed under him taken care of, and she fought a homeless guy for the pearls that was the first gift he got for her (and it was the first time we saw her panic before), there’s very little evidence that she would have done it. Doesn’t seem likely.
@@ma.2089 All of this is fair, but we also know zero percent of the circumstances around his death except that she and Mordecai were involved. Or at least are keeping it a secret of some sort between them.
Maybe it was an accident, maybe she /didn't/ kill him, maybe Mordecai killed him, maybe Mordecai accidentally killed him, maybe /nobody/ killed him.
I don't know, I don't think she would have intentionally killed him, but I'm not convinced she didn't have something to do with it.
