Shay Locomotives on Howard Zane's HO Railroad!

On this episode of Andre runs, we run one of Andre's brass HO shays, Western Maryland #6 on the layout and talk to Howard in an upcoming video about the other dozen shays scattered across his 2800 sqft layout. A beautiful locomotive and layout! I love the custom built excursion cars!! As far as Shay No. 6's history, she was actually the last and largest (tonnage wise) Shay ever built and was built NEW for the Western Maryland and entered service in 1945. The Western Maryland coaling operation between Chaffee WV and Vindex MD where she was built to work played out in 1950, and she was donated to the B&O Museum at Baltimore MD in 1953. There are rumors around that she was sent to other areas around the WM system trying to find a new home and purpose for her in the interim, but she just wasn't needed with the dawn of dieselization. She was eventually sent to Cass Scenic Railroad in 1981, and is still there in service today. She never operated for the Greenbrier and Elk River (Cass' first logging era road name) or the C&O Railway, but was built to the plans for Greenbrier Cheat & Elk No. 12 with modernized appliances and running gear.

Nothing better than seeing a Shay on a Layout. That's why we have 8 of them in O Scale. This is one of the best looking and sounding HO Shays I've seen. I'm sure there are lots of Cinders in the Passengers Hair on this Run.
