  • Finally with many hours of help and sweat Howard Zane and friends Andre Koneczny, Alex Koehler , Ryan Shawer and your host Al Pugliese finally got the bugs out and now trains can run the complete upper mainline. This sections is so long it takes nearly 15 minutes at HI-Ball speed non stop to go from one end to the other. The lower mainline which is the same length is also nearly completed and will also run smoothly again soon. Celebrate with us on this great train journey of greatness! Do you have a layout in need of restoration or upgrading? A museum layout in need of maintenance or upgrades contact me at alpug1@verizon.net to discuss.

    Howard Zane hired me after admonishing me to stop bothering the customers on opening day of Columbia hobbies and crafts. I was 14. My first retail job. He taught me weathering and scenery skills that I still use.

    'Spectacular', is a major understatement. Wonderfully stunning, is getting close. This is THE BEST, model train layout I've seen in a very long time, if ever!!! What caught my attention, was not necessary the rolling stock, but the rest of the scenery, is what makes this layout breathtaking!!! Really impressed with the retro trucks, and busses. EVERYTHING😉👏👍!!

    Why do you keep calling out locations in "West Virginia"? All the equipment, especially cabooses, seem to be lettered for "Erie R.R." Was there a fictional branch into The Mountain State? I'm just curious.

      @@alpugliesetrains9753 - So you just set the Erie in C&O, VGN, and N&W country? I didn't realize that.
      I once started a model railroad based on the idea that the Pennsylvania R.R. had completed the South Penn R.R. after buying it from William H. Vanderbilt in 1885. For example, I planned to eventually design a 4-8-4 (Class R) as if Pennsylvania had needed a loco that could move fast freight up a 2% grade (compared to 1.45% on the Horseshoe Curve route), i.e., something more powerful than the M-1a 4-8-2 locos. Alternative railroad history can have fascinating implications.

Then featured in RMC - Oct 2006, and again in Jan 2007 (after the 3rd section was done). Last featured again in MR in the February 2020 issue after Howard changed the entire layout and rail lines to North eastern PA, and Northern NJ. Check them out. As a pure spectator, a (probably dumb) question -- is the layout meant to be historically accurate? It looks like it's modeling the Erie Railroad; but at one point, the train was passing through Carl, WV, and the Erie never went to WV. Are the small towns and sights (Maysey (sp?) Falls) meant to be real places? Or fictional?

    • @alpugliesetrains9753
      @alpugliesetrains9753  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The entire layout is limitless imagination freelance fictional based on West VA Appalachia scenery

    • @andrekoneczny6616
      @andrekoneczny6616 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Also note - all the town names are from the many friends Howard has / had that assisted in their own special way to get this mammoth layout constructed and operating. Carl was a friend of Howards. No connection with Carl, Wv. Also Howard was modeling WM, C&O, and others until around 2008 when he switched to Erie, NYC, NJC. That was done after his book was released.
