One of my worst fears while winter camping was getting the car snowed in. I like your attitude, treat it as part of the adventure. Many times I pushed snow with the bumper and fingers crossed but I wasn’t as cool as you. Thanks for another great video. Woof

We enjoyed watching both parts of your snow storm adventure. I got into a situation like that a long time ago. We did make it in four wheel drive. The first 9 miles out was a narrow road, never got enough speed up to get out of second gear! Pushing snow the whole way plus busting through drifts! Your video brought back all my memories of that trip, thanks😊

Hi Catherine. Covid put a damper on my plan to cross country. That actually turned out to be a good thing. As you know I hang in the Northeast too. It is surprising how much good camping, exploring and history that is here. The Outback is a very good choice. I pushed mine way beyond its limits. In 10 inches of snow I could have driven out. Of course I wanted to experience the storm so I stayed, holed up and cozy, Keep in touch. You are in my hood! Thanks for watching =Cosmo

Sounds like you had great fun! Lots of lessons learned too. I’ve been in similar challenges in the Adirondaks. Many many of those roads not plowed up there. Life is an adventure. Guess you’ll have to find space for a snow blower next time out! Lol!!!! Those scratches and dents are evidence of living life well!!!

Great video! I'm taking notes, literally. I too have a fair amount of experience camping (is that what the Army calls it???) in difficult conditions/cold weather. I am now putting extra thought into strengthening tow hook points, winch w/accessories, and a hard look at the underside of the TD trailer. I say again; great stuff!

Lol, glad you had fun! Sounds like you wouldn't really change anything because you enjoyed the experience! But if you did want to get out a bit quicker in the future, you could always just try calling a local farmer. They've got rather large 4X4 tractors that would have no difficulty with that snow and I'm sure it wouldn't be nearly as expensive as hiring a tow company for a day!

Not in this case. I would have hiked out if I needed to. Im capable. I am usually backpacking on snowshoes this time which is a bit more of a challenge compared to the luxury of the trailer! I agree its not for a newbie. Thank You for watching.

The small shove was actually a huge success. A bigger shovel would have caused lot more strain. Like lifting 5 pounds 100 times compared to lifting 500 pounds once. Way too much for a towing service! I'm a native of Michigan and know all about what deep Lake-effect snow is! Dad had a construction company, and a front-end loader would've made short work of clearing that road! It was my brother's job to keep us dug out, so this works well for sure. Next time - call a construction company! Glad you're okay and no medical emergencies! Cheers!

@@CosmoWeems Sorry, should've been a bit more clear. I ment there was too much SNOW to attempt towing anything through it. Clearing the road right away when the snow is that deep avoids getting stuck - and that great little teardrop getting damaged! A loader is actually different than a plow when clearing snow, and far superior. Take care!

I live in Colorado. My Outback has handled snow with a depth of 18 inches! I haven't driven far in those conditions, but it's gotten me out of my driveway. Of, course, I wasn't hauling a trailer and wasn't in the middle of nowhere.
Subi is a great car. Dragging a trailer is snow was asking a bit much of it. I just came back from the Maine North Woods and every other vehicle I saw in the woods was a huge pickup 4X4. Winter tire or tire chains is a must for winter camping..at 7c your tire looses grip and once the temperatures hits -10 your chance of getting stuck is pretty high..be safe out there.

If I am driving in snow country, I carry a light plastic or aluminum coaling shovel. Even though I have an AWD I also carry chains just in case. I also recommend an InReach mini. You can get to places with no cell service in the mountains. The InReach provides global, pole to pole communications with rescue agencies. You can also send and receive short text messages to friends or family. I travel in Alaska, summer and winter.

I purchased my trailer 3 years before I retired. I started out in local parks and increased the distance. Its a great approach. Then I added in vacations and it just kept getting better nd better. 1) How did you handle defecation when you were snowed in there? I see you have covered peeing in a teardrop in a previous video, but knowing how you handled #2 under these snowed-in conditions would be helpful.

Hey Cosmo. Do you think bringing a bigger shovel would have made any difference? Was it feasible to dig your way out of that? I am thinking Donner Party here. Anybody can get stuck (my hand is up). I heard somewhere that four wheel drive gives you the ability to get stuck in deeper snow.
Hi Ed when you take a car with 8.75 inches of ground clearance into 24 inches of snow its going beyond the design intent. I was going to eat my leg if I ran out of food but then I would have to hop out which takes more energy and food and I would have to eat the other leg too... Ha ha ha Thank You for watching. Do you have snow tires on? If the snow is as deep as you were dealing with they sometimes can't help much. That being said, I've driven my Soob numerous times with the snow being plowed up onto the hood and windshield but the trailer certainly adds another challenge. Good ole light fluffy Canadian snow helps too.
No snows. Usually don]t need them. IfThis was an exception. I am looking at chains (set of 4) The trailer has 10 inches of clearance which created lots of drag on the bottom, Unhooking and breaking trail is a good idea I did not think of. @@CosmoWeems I posted before watching the whole video: you tow truck guy should have known better than to 'take a run at it' . You have to tension the tow system first and then start to pull. A classic high school physics demo with a heavy mass suspended by a thread with a thread hanging below: A yank of the lower thread will break it (inertia of the mass acting) where a slow steady pull will cause the upper thread to break. Making a track first and then a slow steady pull is the way to go. Note: even my old Soobs with decent tow hooks attached to the frame wouldn't withstand a sudden 'snap' from a tow truck!

Amazing journey! We got our rv stuck in the desert sand two times recently and it was $500 per tow to move it 20 feet. I can only imagine what this midnight tow for hours might have cost but I totally relate to your reaction that the cost is irrelevant. But if you had a medical emergency I hope you have an exit plan or a satellite SOS device, I.e. a way to get rescued faster than this? I’m assuming yes.
I have looked at Satallite devices but have not been able to justify one yet. With 6.5 billion humans roaming the planet its hard to avoid them for long in case you have not noticed. . I plan on enjoying my death as much as possible its unavoidable. Thanks for watching =Cosmo
@@CosmoWeems if there’s cell who needs one I agree. We have a InReach and pay monthly to keep the cost down, and we can text friends and family for help, or use the SOS to alert emergency responders. Hospitals are terrible I agree.

Great adventure.
Im curious though, why didnt someone with a truck and plow just plow a lane all the way out? My ex and I had a plow on our truck and plowed driveways that the city plows wouldnt touch. For any future winter adventures that would be an option.

If you are in that situation again Ild drive the trail 1 or 2 times a day to keep it open. This would be without towing of corse. Then when you leave do one last unloaded trip then hook up and go.
