Very good video. Irondale, AL is definitely the most well known hot spot in the state. Decatur, AL gives it a run for its money though and it's close to Huntsville as well. I have a good recommendation for a hotel in Huntsville should you decide to go. The NS line going through Maplesville was the NS 3B North. I used to live on the 3B South before I moved to South Carolina. The only time I got the Autauga Northern was, ironically, on a trip to Irondale a couple of years ago. Alabama is my home state so I can't help but talk about it. Great job and glad you had a good time.
The old FRISCO brings back memories to when my dad worked for the FRISCO prior to the BN merger in 1980ish when he was a tie inspector and I got to ride his little motor car 40+ years ago. Thanks for the ride Brother 😊🙏🇺🇸
Motor Cars look Fun and I bet are Fun. There are so many of these ALL around the World and most people have never even seen these things on the Rails. 👍
Thanks for the history, most informative. I road in a speedster thing back in the 70's near Blairstin ca. With my gramps following coal trains looking for fires. They lived 100 yards below the tracks in a green double sided house the train company provided and burned Cole in the cook stove. We went thru tunnels and over giant trusels over the feather river quilt scary.
Nice! Jackson, Alabama has a little rail action where a Norfolk southern local sits and work the Industry And the Alabama gulf coast railway runs threw on that line from Mobile
Beaver Car? Dang! I haven't seen one of those since the late 1980's when we built the prototypes in Barrie Ontario! I made a bunch of parts for those buggies as an apprentice machinist. The hydraulic drives were pretty smart for their day. The most fun was rolling the silicone sand filled copper pipes for fitment over the exhaust pipes to heat the coolant for cabin heat. Good times, fond memories
Alabama is a nice state. I have been there. My maternal aunt lived there until she passed away in 2001. I used to visit her often. I also saw trains there.
Irondale is definitely the hotspot, but the nearby town of Leeds has some good ones too. Leeds has two lines (ex-Central of Georgia) and (ex-Southern). The ex-Southern line is the Norfolk Southern P-line which runs through two old tunnels.
Decatur, Alabama has a lift span rail bridge across the Tennessee River that CSX and NS share. A good number of vantage points for viewing and a restored station.
Tuscaloosa isn’t bad. The NS AGS-South crosses the ex-KCS (ex-GM&O, ex-ICG, ex-MidSouth), now Alabama Southern RR (Watco). Can find any locomotives from CSX, KCS, CN, occasionally a NS or BNSF; plus Watco’s locomotives, including the two ‘Pulling For The Tide’ locomotives in their 15th St/TY Rodgers yard.
nice vid... wouldn't mind having one of those things... also @ 8:56, anyone know the lineage of that 3513???... the patch in the nose got me wondering, maybe an ex SP unit????
Did you happen to catch the BR Funeral Train in Monroe Georgia last month? Incredible situation and the first time that I know of a boxcar being used as a hearse in the 21st century.
It’s called foreign power/run through power. Railroads do this for simplicity and efficiency. Here’s a video that explains it: th-cam.com/video/Rs4oNLiB0vw/w-d-xo.html
Hey V12 there has been a train derailment here in Michigan, near Warren. Railway officials are thinking it could have been a track failure or a railcar failure, I do know after clearing the railcars off the single track mainline, there is some repairs that needs to be done to be reopening. And this happened today around the morning time
@@v12productions Great! I've taken videos of my motorcar excursions but as I dont always have someone to film for me I just stick my gopro on the front of my car and get time lapse videos. I really like your narrated videos,
I love going to irondale. Every time my grandma comes down we head over there.

I love that someone else noticed that! They’re the company I work for and I dearly love it!

Great video, check out Bessimer AL, 70MPH for freights, 80mph for amtrak
Very nice. Y’all should head up here to Sheffield AL and Decatur AL for railfanning

Those are some great suggestions! Thanks

Well done video. I have always wanted to tag along with a speeder group.
Excellent Coverage
I remember being there in Irondale 😊
Looks like a fun day!
How cool to be able to ride the rails like that.

Your most welcome
It's all good 👍
Huntsville Alabama is great.
There also used to be some really nice model trains shops across the street from the viewing platform near Irondale cafe
Totally awesome video specially the railfans 😊
Pre 9/11 when I was still a small child my mother used to drive into the Norris yard and we'd watch the train cars roll down the hump.
4:18 Nice I just caught 4003 today
What the heck is that car in the background at 3:45???
That's a good question! It looks kind of like an unusual covered hopper.
Very rad!
Wow nice view of form GM&O without doubt that had to be fun ride.
Outstanding!
Uab on the south side, is what Birmingham ,Alabama is known for now! It is a major medical school and hospital system.

Great video, Charlie. I have always wanted to ride in a speeder. Seems they are becoming rare.
Did you ever check out the water tower in Hogansville?
Thanks! I still need to find that water tower.
Autuaga Northerns fleet consists of former Pacific Sun locomotives.
Very informative 👏
Great video, keep up the good work!
Thanks!

I did not, but wish I had. He seemed like a really interesting guy.
Nice video 👍, and first
WHY ARE WE SEEING MORE LOCOS FROM OTHER RAIL LINES ?

Is there any place to sign up for a tour on these things? I would pay for one of those tours!
I was just on that same bridge the other day I was with daddy we were trying to catch Amtrak heritage unit
What became of the old steam shop facility in Irondale because I know the steam fleet was headquartered there for years
The steam shop buildings are still there but they repair diesels now
