She had to tell us that because we would gravitate towards beans and rice. Our plates would be filled with all versions of beans and rice and a bit of the other food. Fun fact: In earlier days spices weren’t available to the working class, only the upper classes that could afford it, hence why traditional British food is basically made of a lot of spiceless main dishes but cakes with excessive spice.
I've heard from immigrants that norwegian traditional food was bland. And I tend to agree, but then I told them the same. That spices wasn't anything most of the population could afford, as for centuries they ate what they could catch or fish. Or people inland who had a steady diet of porridge. And sometimes that was all they had. Also seasonal foods like berries and some plants.

😂that is the best roast ever!
As a Mexican I fully agree. Beans are delicious 😋 yum. Beans, spicy salsas, tortillas, and rice are a must have!!! The funny part, when we go to a potluck my mother tells us to not get beans and rice because beans and rice we have at home, so get everything else but those 😅. She had to tell us that because we would gravitate towards beans and rice. Our plates would be filled with all versions of beans and rice and a bit of the other food. So afterwards we started trying pasta and other dishes that we didn't eat at home. So mac and cheese is something we never cook at home so I load up my plate, because we rarely eat pasta at home.
I totally understand. Go to a restaurant and not order a carne asada plate 😂
Yeah but the beans y’all eat actually taste good.

If you're anywhere from Asia or Asian descent, it's more cultural. This is more on Heinz manipulating the UK into making it a classic.

Me too. Beans are their rice. Or their pasta.

Harvey: yeah yeah yeah 😂
Bro as an American I wish I could have more baked beans. They’re so good.
Fun fact: In earlier days spices weren’t available to the working class, only the upper classes that could afford it, hence why traditional British food is basically made of a lot of spiceless main dishes but cakes with excessive spice.
Same in most of northern europe as well.
@@loadingmikke7451 Yeah, not to mention we aren't able to grow a lot of variety in Norway because of the climate and the amount of fertile land is very limited.
Missed Harvey ♥
I got to say as an American, that fish sticks, pork and beans and tater tots or french fries was one of our favorite dishes as kids growing up... The tater tots smothered in ketchup, the fish stick smothered in tartar sauce and the beans with a bit of mustard on top

I really would like to try beans on toast. It just looks so filling!
You should! The key is to use Heinz baked beans (not the low sugar ones, because they are disgusting) and to toast your sliced bread until it is golden and then smother the toast in a good amount of salted butter. Americans generally leave the bread too lightly toasted when they try it. Plus don't put the beans on top of the toast unless you want soggy toast.
Don't listen to the haters. It's really good. Butter the toast and add pepper and ur good
@@Lotsielotsthat’s the strangest way to make beans on toast I have ever heard nobody does that tf it’s not beans on toast if you don’t put beans on top of the toast😭
@@irdk6891i think he meant to not dump the beans onto the toast, but actually spread it slowly with a spoon or something like that so the extra moisture dont get onto the toast
