Fond memories of these flying over the house as a kid. The A-10’s used to train in a field in front of the house & the f-111’s were normally at high altitude. Didn’t want to spend any more but think I’ll have to pick this up. Thanks!
It's more the weapons systems etc there's still so much classified about this aircraft even to this day. But as an Aussie I'd love the Hornet Pig combo
Very fond memories working on the Advark in the beginning of my Air Force Career. Every aircraft afterward just got easier. Didn't see the inlet spike move and blossem at all always waiting to see that model properly. Love watching it flying it on the other hand, i will just stick to the the F-15E. Thanks for sharing the video. If MSFS ever allows pilots to drop bombs and dog fight bye bye DCS.
I was born at Lakenheath Heath and grew up on cannon AFB around the F and EF-111s. I’ve got an original general dynamics test flight sheet my dad handed me down. Love the 111 and hope to have it in DCS one day. Definitely will get this for MSFS
I'm liking this version so far. Been waiting for one for a LONG time. I worked as an engine mechanic on the FB-111 for 9 years. I've got a copy of the "Dash One" flight manual that helps a little. I also have over 200 hours in the real full-scale simulator (not full motion). Fun jet to fly, but can be a bitch to slow down and land. Gotta fly it right to the ground. In flight, it's like a Cadillac. 🙂 Now of only someone can come out with a accurate B-1B. I worked them for 5 years and got to fly in one.
Indeed, spent most of the day flying it and everything came back to me. Autopilot works lovely, NAV, TACAN and ILS work superbly. Look forward to more from this as time goes by. It is brilliant!
Watching these do high speed low passes in middle of Brisbane city in Queensland, Australia back in the 2000s was absolutely awesome. Every September the RAAF would start off (and end) the annual 'Riverfire' fireworks festival. At the end two of them would do a dump and burn while climbing out and usually it would go through clouds and light the whole city up with a flashing orange glow. Can't wait to get my hands on this. Was sorry to see this beautiful and very capable plane retire.
That’s why the 2nd seat is not for a pilot, but a WSO, he works the Elint on the Aardvark version & the ECM suite on this fighter bomber version. They tried it in Vietnam, but it was not a great success. The TFR system did not take to jungle covered mountains the way it could sort out mountains in the USA under test. It was brought back pretty quick, I recall
I've spent 80% of my life at the end of the runway at Lakenheath. I actually watched the transition from f111 to f15s. Was so excited to see the 15s. But now would love the 111s back. Although the f35s are pretty impressive. Great vid loved it
Okay, I finally got to spend some time with this jet this evening. My opinion? I hope I can figure out how to get a refund. It looks amazing. But other than that, I hate it. Throttle didn’t work right although that might be an MSFS/Xbox Game Pass thing. I could never get the flaps and slats to come down… unless I swept the wings all the way back. Couldn’t figure out how to get the brakes to work right. No matter how I had the brake axes set up, the only time the brakes would release would be if I held my brake pedals somewhere in the center of the brakes axes. Speaking of pedals, the rudder pedals move the wrong way. The rudder moves in the correct direction but the pedals are backwards. Once I finally got the thing in the air, I found the flight model atrocious. There are tons of switches and knobs that move and turn but they do nothing. On the attack radar display, there’s some permanent display on it that never changes, even on the ground. And it looks to be a supposed 360 radar display, which is not possible in that type aircraft. Extremely disappointed, I want my money back. I would give it a 2 only because it looks amazing.
I remember hearing the b-1b had crew sitting on the floor when it first began being used. This looks just as fun! DCS world could use this model for sure. Will these be available for next msfs?
Thank you for another great video. I was/am having issues with the wing sweep, as it seems to be assigned to an axis or other assignment, that I have bound elsewhere and every time I try to sweep them back, they return to full forward, but I seem to be the only one with the problem, lol. Anyways, great first look, thank you!
@@scottgraham1569 I've been clicking and dragging, but it will still only move back to the forward position. I haven't had the availability to be in the sim to find whatever axis/assignment it's bound to.
OK OK I admit it, I'm impatient. Well done video, but 20min to get into the air in a 30min video 😒 I'm growing a beard over here. Good job though, thumbs up given!👍🏽
Sounds like an awesome job! did you ever get to go up and test the autopilot? That is the payware RAF Lakenheath and can be found on the marketplace, worth a punt if you have the money to spare! Thanks for watching
It was an excellent job. I never got a flight but they did give "incentive" flights but they always went to "airman of the month" and you can probably guess the types of persons got them. @@boresight2020
I'm curious about the attack radar on the BN's panel. Is that the only picture it shows? Or does it actual put a moving ground map up there? Because every pic I've seen of this cockpit has that same thing on the display. First, that radar would not be transmitting on deck. So there would be no picture with radar returns. Second, it seems to show a 360 sweep pattern which is not possible in an aircraft... Unless you're an E-2 or E-3 with a 25 foot radar dome over your head. So I'm guessing it's just some random pic they put in there for hopefully just a temporary place holder until we actually have functional radars in MSFS.
F-111E were operated by the 55th, 77th and 79th of the 20TFW, Lakenheath had the F-111F operated by the 492nd, 493rd, 494th and 495th of the 48TFW, Those were the days!!
Indeed they did, I love wheels up landing that was achieved at Amberley. Awesome professionalism, especially as the pilot had only qualified on type two weeks prior!
December 2010 more accurately for the final flight. Plus they called it the Pig and not the Aardvark. 😉 Whilst the pilots said it was because of the long nose being used close to the ground, the technicians usually said it was because that's what they were like to work on!
Is there a manual for this thing somewhere? I need to know what works and what doesn't. The visual model looks great but there's a few issues with it. My rudder pedals go the wrong way. The rudder goes the correct way but the pedals in the aircraft don't. I can't figure out how to get the flaps down with the wings spread. I noticed that when I swept the wings back, then the flaps and slats went down which is definitely wrong. Anyway, where's the POH?
The F model was the best version of the F-111. Pave Tack and the best engines of all the Aardvarks made it so. I had 8 years on the F-111F and will always see it as the best jet for my entire career. I don’t know why they thought the E was the version to make. Perhaps to avoid doing the Pave Tack.
I agree. The Australian versions were used longer. They had many upgrades over time. All had the longer wings. They used Pave Tack. There was a mix of C, G and 4 reconnaissance variants. Most of the liveries in GKS are for Australian planes but they show the wrong wings and engine intakes. GKS should have just based the models on the Australian F-111's
@@russellgunther The F had shorter wings making it more maneuverable, the most powerful engines in all the F-111 variants (TF30/P111 Pacer Plus), PaveTack and avionics upgrades as well. The cost to maintain the F-111 just didn’t make sense and it was put to rest because of that. Plus, the Strike Eagle was brought on line and it does everything the F-111 did and more. The C model is the number 2 on my list of best F-111s. I had the pleasure of training Aussies when they bought the Gs in the 1990s. The F models were still in service and my students from “down under”were pretty impressed with F models when they saw them first hand.
Yes we had these F111 C from 1973 - 2010. Originally we had French Mirage 3's as our fighters until the mid 80's when we got our first legacy F 18's..When the Aardvarks retired in 2010 we got a number of Super Hornets to fill the gap until we got the F 35 Lightning 2's. Number 1 squadron still flies the super hornets, and Number 3 Squadron flies the F 35. Being a lover of these F 111 which served us for over 30 years, I got more than tight pants watching this flight.
What I hear when you run the throttle up is the whine of the engine basically changing with the throttle movement. What I mean by that is that the sound changes with the throttle position, not as a result of the throttle position. These are old aircraft with old engines. Their spool up times are not great. When you move that throttle, it takes a second or two for the engine to respond. I'm not taking anything away from this product; this seems to be more an issue with MSFS than this jet. I have heard this happen with other jets in this sim. I am recently retired but I spent most of the last four decades as an aviation maintenance technician specializing in avionics, both military and civilian. I was in the US Navy for 12 years back in the 70's and 80's. So I've been around a lot of very old military jets and I know what they sound like.
Does anyone else have problems with putting the wings back on Xbox most of the time they won’t go back all the way it’s like the two locks just stay locked even when I turn it off I’ve gotten it to work a few times but most the time it just won’t let me put the wings back on
