    Yeah, I was wondering what cars/vehicles would throw a code since my car didn't. When I got my LEDs they came with a CAM BUS which tricks newer vehicles and doesn't through that code. Since my car is from 2002 I didn't need to use the cam bus and now I have 4 of them just sitting in the package. I also changed out my side lights/turn signals to the same white LED. I check local law and it said that I we can use amber or white in the front and amber or red in the back. It's kind of cool having an old car with modern lights (I think the lame saying goes, I can see into the future with these things). I also went through the whole interior of the car and switched those all to bright white LEDs and the revers lights and the license plate lights. Just need to get the brake light swapped out.
    Weird side note: After I did the swap, I saved about 15 to 20 amps, SOOO! I got a sub woofer amp and sub lol, well, there goes the 20 amps saved and 80 amps tacked back on lol. My alternator hates me now lol. funny how math works.

      Hi Eric. I’ve done some research today and the bulbs are definitely illegal in the uk if your vehicle was made after 1986. You can only have LED headlights if they are fitted from now. If you retro fit them your vehicle will fail the MOT and your insurance will be invalid.

    Just checked the link you posted for Canbus bulbs and they appear to be amber indicator ones?

    • @TravellingfromScratch
      @TravellingfromScratch  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah sorry wrong link. I will be removing it now so thanks for the heads up. After further research today and you cannot retro fit any LED bulbs to any vehicle made after 1986. It will be an MOT failure and it will effect your insurance. I’m releasing an updated vlog tomorrow to make people aware and then I have a new vlog with road legal extra bright halogen bulbs. Coming very soon. 👍🏻

    💡💡💡 cracking vlog people will be learning off your mistakes, your not the first and won't be the last to make that mistake but maybe the first to hold your hands up and own it, liking the dogs keep them coming.

    Nice one Ian, what did you change, just watched the re launch and couldn't tell what you changed. Every days a school day mate at least you have the balls to show people what your doing and admit getting it wrong. Working on your van and giving the dogs a run at the same time has to be a winner. Cheers K.

      Thanks mate. If I didn’t admit when I got it wrong no one would benefit and I would never release a video. 😂😂😂 All I had to change was the thank you for watching routine at the end. I won’t use that again. 👍🏻

      Hi Alan. I have been advised that that’s the way to go. That’s what I will be buying and I will release a future vlog showing my intentions. I got your email and was about to reply to it when I saw this message. I will reply anyway as I always enjoy the contact. Thank you for watching. I hope this has helped. I upgraded after watching other people but I don’t like to advise people to do things if they may fall foul of the law in the uk. 👍🏻

    Ian the only ones which need to be changed are the main beam the high beam will not be an issue as you can add led light bars and driving lights which all work off the high beam feed

    • @TravellingfromScratch
      @TravellingfromScratch  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Stephen. I have done some further research today and you cannot legally use led bulbs in any vehicle made after april 1st 1986. That came in to effect January 2021 and is now part of the MOT. If you fit light bars you have to tell the insurance and they cannot be used on a road maintained at the public expense. They can only be used off road. That’s my understanding of it after speaking to the Dvla the police the insurance and two mot garages. You can fit the light bars as you say to the main beam but you can’t change the main beam bulbs as they are part of the original headlight unit. It’s all on the government web site. 👍🏻

    Ah well, the superbright halogen ones are still pretty good. I use Osram Nightbreakers in the Celica. I find they don't last as long but the hard suspension probably doesn't help 👍

      Use them in our MINI Countryman, way better than standard, not as good as LED's though

    The van thinks there is a bulb out because the current draw is so small.

      Thank you. I get there in the end but it’s all trial and error with me. LED bulbs are the rolls Royce of bulbs but I will have to go back to halogen for legal reasons. Would never criticise anyone who uses the LED though as they do look great. 👍🏻

    You may know already, but those 580 W21/5W 3500K Whiter Bulb Halfords Advanced Twin Pack are for off road only. Easy fix, change back to originals before MOT..

    Cannot win them all mate.Apparently the rules might be changed soon as long as the bulb has a CE mark on them,we will see 👍 Mean while we will have to stay dim.

      Another great vblog Ian, its great to see how you deal with a real life experience. Its humorous also ;)
      When the CANBUS system checks the lights they need a resistor to make them act like an incandescant bulb. So look for CANBUS compatible on the bulbs or just fit your own resistor to the blub for the side lights only ;) Doing this will stop the system telling you if the bulb fails though for all types of LED lights.
      The Halfords bulbs are not the best … if you want a good bulb you want one of these .. Philips X-treme Vision or OSRAM Night Breaker. I feel another vblog coming on ;)
      Maybe phone around some scrap yards etc to find out the cost and availability of some second hand light units. I suspect they will be very expensive even second hand.

      Brilliant. Thanks Daz. I learn so much from the comments on these vlogs. It’s part of the reason I do them. I’ll check those bulbs out and will go for some CANBUS LED bulbs for the side lights. You’re absolutely right I will do another vlog on it. Do you mind if I credit you with the advice. I would just mention a subscriber call Daz who kindly shared the benefit of his knowledge. 👍🏻
