Say what you want about GB 2. At least it brought something new and took chances. It had some memorable moments i.e. the statue of liberty or the train tunnel scares. This new stuff just seems like callbacks and nostalgia moments. I was hoping we got that out of the way with GB Afterlife.
It had a way better villian who was played by an actual actor who had an actual character and personality. Vigo was in the film throughout it. It had scary and new entities that looked better than the ghosts in Frozen Empire.
Play the video game, rewatch The Real Ghostbusters and Extreme Ghostbusters, watch Afterlife as a nice epilogue to the franchise and then forget everything else. Ghostbusters just needs to take a much needed rest even though its a hard pill to swallow
Afterlife was A OK actually. This sequel however lost the plot as it often happens with sequels and sadly very unnecessarily so because the franchise has plenty of spectral villains from the animated shows that they could have chosen from instead of creating a lame new one. And having the Stay Puff gremlins again was a stupid idea. I mean we never saw the Monkey Gremlins from the original Jumanji movie again in the rest of the movies of that franchise and it actually worked.
I wanted to like this film a lot, but the plot is just so disjointed and convulted that it honestly hurt to watch at times. While the OG characters are still tnankfully respected, the new Ghostbusters just lack the chemistry and wit to carry this movie or hell even a trilogy for that matter.
@@crackerjaxcosplay I'm criticizing the movie because I wanted it to be good lol. If you're fired up why not actually see the movie and speak yourself why don't you?
I'm still interested in the film and am more than willing to support it. Plus, it comes out on my 27th birthday tomorrow, Jeff. That's despite me being on a *_Harry Potter_* high as of late.
I greatly enjoyed the movie. I enjoyed the lore the most. Kumal Nanjiani and Dan Akroyd were great. I enjoyed the effects. I understood where Mckenna Grace's character not getting a chance to prove herself and learning from it due to how things turn out. I was just looking for a good time, but nothing spectacular. I think this movie might be most loved by Ghostbuster fans more than the general audience.
Will agree it was a fine movie. A tad to hallow at points and heavy handed with memory berries. I did like the new gadgets and would have been great to see them tinkering to build them. Needed more tension for the big bad and their fight. Almost wished there had been a rival ghostbuster team showing them up with sleeker packs and cars but who was more about the money than the mission who bomb big and result in the big bad arrival. Then once more it is the classic team and gear with some updates who come blazing in to save the day once more and end. Who knows maybe the next film will be something like that.
Hi Jeff long time listener just wanted to say it’s good to see your face in videos but I recommend putting the camera slightly above or at eye level instead of chin level and I would move the lighting higher and to the left of the camera. This will make your shot look more cinematic and it will make it seem like you’re not looking down your nose at us. Good luck and keep up the good commentary
Since you seem incapable of realizing it, it's simple. It's like the good seasons of real Ghostbusters. Now every episode was not great but every episode was Ghostbusters and that is pretty great. So the movies might not be like the original but they are still pretty great. Aside from 2016, that made the q5 years competent in comparison
a wrist mounted proton pack? i know tech has evolved a lot in the last 30 years, but still getting all that tech into a back mounted pack was impressive enough.
Frozen Empire was a creative fun Ghostbusters movie and that's what it's supposed to be. It showed us more of the Spangler family and their dynamics as well as much more of the fire house and how the GB company has grown. It was a great first step into the next generation of Ghostbusters. It sets up an exciting lead into another movie or steaming series. Over all 8/10
Awesome review. I'm a long time Ghosbusters fan, and was really anticipating the release of this film to watch it theaters... But now, I'll just wait for it to be streamed. :)
Don’t let anyone else’s opinions sway your interest in seeing it. Watch it for yourself and form your own thoughts. Personally, I thought it was amazing. -Fennett
There was a GB3 script were Venkman became the Mayor of New York. I thought that was a great idea since we see him as a talk show host in the second film. Makes since he would use his popularity and smooth talking to become a Public figure next. Makes more since then Walter Peck. Plus that could create a interesting relationship between him and the rest of the team as I’m sure there would be tension. Another thing I’m curious about in the Ghostbusters universe is how things changed after a certain event in 2001. You think there would be some major paranormal activity after an event like that. We see references/ jokes about past tragic events in New York like train derailments, murders on the 13th floor, and even the Titanic in the first two films. It feels kind of odd not to reference it. I know why they wouldn’t but it makes me wonder.
I feel like the nostalgia and member berries were the high points. The low points were Garakka barely posing a threat and the poorly fleshed out Pheobe & Melody relationship. The movie shined brightest when it focused on Winston and Ray mentoring the new generation. I loved what this movie was trying g to do , I feel like it needed like maybe 10 more minutes in the 3rd act.
I was a Ghostbuster for Halloween. The for real get up, hand made, at meadows mall in Las Vegas there was an adult Ghostbuster, and it caused such as commotion we were on the news. The Ghostbusters helicopter toy was the best. Out dork that.
One thing missing.... Pots having dual pistols like in 2016.....lol!! I think after life was so good and a big hit just because it followed the 16 movie.. When I rewatch it i'm like kids?, really? And you made a good point about the red suits... What the heck. I don't like them anyway in the previews.
FemBuster 2016 was so horrible it caused my nephew who was 11 at the time to completely abandon the franchise. He adores the original two, but now he’s viewed everything that comes out after 2016 as just more of that garbage. It’s tragic.
I don’t think Ghostbusters is incapable of being a franchise, you just have to do unique things in each sequel (like maybe an adaptation of Extreme Ghostbusters?), and not rely on ‘Memberberries. (Also, a WCBS video without a Stealing Solo plug? I must be dreaming!)
Afterlife to me just wasn't a good movie. It felt like "Rise of Skywalker" with Gozer's return. Gozer never needed to return. With Frozen Empire sounds like the same.
I liked Afterlife, even with the brining back of the same "big bad". That being said, Frozen Empire to me was just meh. Dan Murrell's review sums up how I feel about it pretty perfectly.
I liked after life Quite a bit.... The first time. Of course that's following a 2016 movie. Watching that again a couple times and i'm like, kids? Really?.
Without knowing but when I heard ghostbusters is about watching two hours firefighters and Patton Oswalt is there two I now really hope he represents Fire Marshall Boone again like in Brooklyn 99 😄
Judging by the trailer I can already tell the movie is humorless, the kids are ok but they don't come from a comedic background and Paul Rudd has starred in many comedies but he doesn't come from stand-up he just recites dialogue and make it funnier. So yeah.
The original Ghostbusters movie was lightning in a bottle. Everything after is just a ghost of that first one. Didn't care for the second movie either. Though, the PC game that came out in 2009 was good and better than the second ghostbusters movie.
Totally agree! If the the first Ghostbusters was a standalone, one and done, it would be one of the greatest ever. The 2009 game is really good, I still play though it once in a while.
GB2 was a great movie even if it wasn't as good as the first. At least it tried to do something original and new with its concept of Vigo and the river of slime. It actually had stakes that you can get behind which I appreciated
My only nostalgia for the second one is the anticipation and the hype of it coming out in the summer of 1989. It was the last stop before "Batman." It was assisted by the Hardee's Slimer Sundae and the ghost zapper toys.
I knew this film would be bad the moment I heard that Gil Kenan and Jason Reitman were writing it. They did a really poor job with Ghostbusters Afterlife. The studio needs to put far more care and attention into it's choice of writers when making films based on these beloved properties.
