    21:22 I thought the freezing of New York would take place way earlier in the movie. It doesn't last long once it happens.

      Yeah, I would cut that opening flashback and the animated Garraka backstory, add more of seeing people affected by the freeze, more jokes, smoother edits, and a more complicated ending. It was fun, but feels a few passes away from a final script. The emotional beats were rushed and unearned, and Callie and Gary felt more like siblings than lovers. Luckily Aykroyd brings so much heart you can't help but smile.

      That's why I didn't like it after life was better and a few other reasons I liked that Egon was in the frist one also as a ghost and the start.

      @StormX6 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yeah, the first two acts dragged a bit. It felt like the story didn’t have any direction with it trying to keep up with all its characters. The third act when Garraka finally shows up felt anti-climatic with how much build up he got.

      To be fair, all the other movies have a quick third act/resolution.
      gb - Stay Pufft is pretty much there for 12 mins, including all of Gozer...
      Gb2 - Vigo and the Liberty march was at best 5 mins
      GbAL - the Gozer chase and trap farm... abother 6-9 mins
      These are 'feel good' horror-comedy movies...

    Just want to comment that I was one of the prop makers on this and the whole team is pretty disappointed that Sony chose to cut us entirely from the credits, apparently they wanted to keep them short but we don't accept that, there is a mid credits gag clip that ads nothing to the story nor sets up another film, we were all for the most part fans of the franchise and loved working on this and were extremely disappointed they couldn't find the space for us in the credits especially with that nothing mid credits scene, many of us have not had any film or TV work since due to the strikes and it's a real morale drain after all we've been through and all the extra hours we put in to be dismissed by Sony, whenever we had guests on set they were shown the props, this film was promoted on props and this film relied heavily on it's action props, yet Sony saw fit to dismiss our contribution to the film

    Yeah the final "battle" was kind of quick for all that build up. Also it basically copied and pasted the final battle from afterlife as far as scenes go. Maybe they should have let all the ghosts out and had fights with GB2 ghosts again before the end, something to make the end a bit more epic.

    I'm more encouraged hearing this review. The other reviews so far have not been kind, but some of that could be sour grapes over 2016 and also from people who aren't particularly Ghostbuster fans but just movie reviewers. Where Ghostbusters is concerned, I'd rather hear from fans of the franchise. Chances are if they enjoyed it I probably will too.

    • @knightsofgbs9524
      @knightsofgbs9524 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +13

      @TheMightyKongthe problem with that is the critics are still mad that the 2016 is not being continued, so they won't say it like they did the last time with afterlife however they'll continue to give any ghostbusters films moving forward bad or mixed reviews. Which is fine. People who pay to see films are the reason if films continue to get made or not, not critics.

    • @Alexinytown

      @TheMightyKong Disney spectacularly failed with that approach to Star Wars. The fans wanted one thing and they got something else that no one really cared for. Arguably they tried that with 2016 and that failed as well.

    I'm torn on the movie. The effects were done really well and the movie looks overall really good. I had a few issues with certian points. Especially they way Phoebe and her new friend come off, although i may have read too far into it. Then theres the fact we get this newly upgraded equipment and its pretty much there for esthetic purposes only. My final gripe was it felt so slow until the third act then it feels like it went into warp drive. Now i really did like that the addition of the Paranormal Research Center and the fact that the containment unit in the firehouse has a limit to how much it can hold. Thats a neat idea along with the flyimg drone trap. Also i was a huge fan of having Janine do more than answer phones. If i had to be honest though, I'd have to give it a 5.5 out of 10. Its not the worst, but i personally didn't think it was as strong as 3 of the 4 movies that preceeded it.

    I watched the movie, while I enjoyed the most parts and I love all the nods to the OG films but I feel that the final basket is not long enough and the scale of it is too small, like huge thunder but only droplets of rain.with so many Ghostbusters they could’ve make them into small groups to fight “army of ghosts” as mentioned in the trailer, not stand in a firing squad position with fancy new packs (of no real functional change).
    It could’ve been better but it’s certainly a worthy sequel, and I just hope we get to see more of the new generation! I give it 7/10.

    • @flybriur
      @flybriur 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @mrjermz5406 Lighthearted is totally fine. I have no problem with that. Unfortunately, things dragged on too long and took too long to set up, for example. Also, the "Phoebe and friend" aspect of the film felt like it was shoehorned into the larger overall plot - that either needed to be reworked, or to be honest, it could have been completely cut out, and to further the plot would have taken just a bit of tweakinf. Also, some characters were very underutilized, such as Podcast, Trevor, Lucky, and Dr. Wartzki.
      To me, overall, the general story and elements of the script could have made a great movie, I just felt it was too sloppily written and put together. The difference between a good and bad script can be just taking the same aspect, plot point, etc, but being able to better and more efficiently set up/inform the audience. For example, an important character trait can be creatively and smartly shown visually to the audience for only 10-20 seconds vs. having to use 3-5 minutes of dialogue to achieve the same thing.

    • @HockeyRiveNord
      @HockeyRiveNord 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      To me, they got the tone right, and the humour. Not slapstick, and clever jokes and banter.
      Where they missed :
      - too many characters, keep Lucky as background character, Trevor to college, and Poscast stays in Oklahoma, which would fuel Pheobe's feeling of isolation.
      - more night scenes, catching a ghost in daytime is okay, but all of the movie is during the day...
      - the animated portion was out of place...
      - the concept depicted in said animation is meh to me... the GB franchise establishes a scientific-basis for ghosts and manifestations, which this movies kinda removes...
      Not bad, 7/10 but not the best GB movie either.

    Saw it twice today back to back. Wasn't a huge fan of the Phoebe/ghost friend thing but it wasn't terrible. Just felt a little flat but it made sense since Phoebe was feeling left out and the ghost had their own reasons for being there. Also wow, all of the cut and alternate scenes from the trailers. Was pretty surprising, but I'm sure there will be an extended cut on Bluray and of course I'll preorder it asap. Overall none of my criticisms are big and I walked out really enjoying it both times and I can't wait to see it again! Side note: I feel like there was a Real Ghostbusters nod with Peck's comment "Maybe she can be a Junior Ghostbuster and hand out stickers". It’s missing something. I have been a ghostbusters fan my entire life. And Ghostbusters 1 and 2 and Afterlife felt special but this lacked a spark. They spend to much time focused on a single characters development and their coming of age story when neither were needed. It’s a movie that leaves you wondering what could have been. The main villain is cool pun intended but they are given no time to shine despite being built up as a ghost to end all ghosts. The movie begins slow and ends to fast. A lot of the film felt like a throw away just to fill a few minutes. Oh how i wanted to love it but im disappointed and left asking oh what could have been.

I also dug the fact Gil Kenan has made both the Ray Parker Jr music video and Kenner toy commercials canon to the movie universe. Someone now needs to try and track down the three former kids who acted in that Kenner Ghost Trap ad. If their actual fans bet their pretty happy to have made the actual film series now after participating in a mere commercial made over three decades ago lol

    I was in the camp you referred to with Nadeem. Whilst I did enjoy his character I'm not sure about his amount of involvement especially at the end.
    Also I kind of feel Emily's character could have been come at from a different direction. It wasn't bad but kinda had scooby doo vibes a tad. Same result could of been done but just by doing it a little differently visually and character wise.
    Oh yeah and I agree with the 3rd act. Wish Garraka caused more devastation before the final showdown.

    The ghost/human plot line was ackward at best, and not really well thought out it felt like the writters were like ok we wrote ourselves into a corner with our own rules how do we get out of this. If you stop and think about all those scenes they all feel like the were shot after the fact during reshoots as the dialog is minimal the sets are minimal and your just kinda left to fill in the blanks on why the character feels they way they do to do what they do. Its feels very disjointed from the rest of the movie. Over all it wasnt terriable Pauls dialog was kinda boring and didnt really do much for the story almost like he was talking to an empty room "nudge nudge" but his acting was good and id say he didnt really add much but he didnt take anything away either. I did love seeing all the toys and cartoon elements in real life like the motorcycle the arm-band proton cannon the pizza ghost etc... that was definitely a treat, and the use of practical effect especially in the 1st act was terrific and looled great. I'd rank it slighty worse then Afterlife but 100% better then 2016 solid 7/10

  • @JamiePowellCrazyJay

    As a lifetime fan of ghostbusters, I have to say that this was a bit of a disappointment
    My main issues with the film are
    The first half of the movie had some bad pacing issues, felt slow and lacking
    There were so many deleted scenes from the trailers and tv spots - main example the scene where they are all on the roof top in red coats and Paul Rudd says ohohohoho at something
    Felt the relationship between Phoebe and the other girl (no spoilers here) felt more than friend’s relationship and she did something really really dumb so they could be on the same level
    Bill Murray was only in it for about 10 minutes maximum
    They should have frozen over the city earlier into the story - as it felt like a bit at the end
    More slimer please lol
    To be honest despite all I’ve said I did enjoy it, and liked that it took risks at times
    But it was still disappointing for me, which pains me to say it
    But that’s just my two cents
    I rate it a 7/10
    and I’m being generous as I love the series of films / shows with all my heart lol

    As a HUGE GB fan I really wanted to dig this as much as Afterlife. There were some ideas and moments that were great BUT...there was so much crammed into this movie that it was hard to lock onto any one part of it. The villain was creepy but the ending was very anticlimactic to the point of "this is the threat we've been worried about this entire time?" This movie would have been so much better...(1) if the entire first half was tightened up to give more room for the actual villain to be present and cause more devastation. A true threat for the Ghostbusters to take on and save the city. (2) give more exposition to the huge well of supporting characters as to why they are there and what purpose they serve aside from hitting demographic points to satisfy a broader audience. (3) Save the cat! Screenwriting 101. the formula for this movie was thrown through a shredder and pieced together again on the other side. There's a reason why the three act structure has worked since the dawn of movies. After much thought I feel like there were too many cooks in the kitchen and it showed. I believe there was a great movie here at the start but A LOT of marketing, two cents adding, and "we have to have this" thrown in that got in the way. Reitman should have directed.

    With all the characters, I feel like Paul Rudd didn't get to shine. Paul Rudd as a GB is absolute gold!
    Also, we could have cut out the 1904 stuff and provided more buildup and payoff of Garaka would have helped. Draw out the peril of the whole "our proton packs don't work!" way more. I think that would help!

  • @ReelFilm2016
    @ReelFilm2016 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I saw the movie with my nephew, a few days ago, in the UK. My nephew and I agreed that it was okay as a movie but we didn't love it. We weren't talking about it the following day, which I think is a real shame. My nephew who is 13, still pulls out quotes from the original ghostbusters and that should tell you something.
    There were some good ideas in the film, but unfortunately, for me, the formula of the film is effectively the some plot as all of the movies. No key master or gatekeeper, but now we have a fire master. Surely we can be more creative here!!
    As a huge fan of the original movies, I always hoped that when I grew older, they would get around to making another movie where the effects would be amazing, the scares even more scary and the plot seeing new ghostbusters doing all kinds of unusual things. Maybe the effects are better nowadays, but are they wowing us? I would say no.
    For me, since the the 2016 reboot, the series has literally, lost its soul. I didn't mind afterlife, but it lacked something. Everything feels like it is trying too hard. There is no buzz or excitement and the movies are pretty safe. The sad thing is, this franchise has SO much potential but it seems like the studios don't have the enthusiasm, desire or passion to make a true successor.
    We need a real-life Gate keeper to over see any future submissions for films in the franchise and implement some kind of quality control.
    If I could have any director to completely reboot the series, I'd go for Christopher Nolan. The way he moulded Batman into a character that felt like he could exist in the real world was fantastic. Just thinking about a Ghostbusters movie directed by him gives me ghost-bumps. 🙂 And we know that Nolan loves and respects science / physics.
    I realise that any good franchise or series, needs to move with the times, but it seems like this franchise is going backwards. The Films are now solely aimed at children, but we need the type of film which can appeal to adults and children alike, like the original.
    Until someone with vision and significant passion for Ghostbusters approaches Sony to make a film, I think we need to leave the series alone. Just my opinion. But I hope the film does well and I hope a new generation are being made to feel how I did when I first saw the original.
    Oh and one last thing, as a fan, this wasn't made for me. That's fine, but I am curious to know what the target demographic is because the box office results thus far, don't seem to show that the audience has grown significantly, since Afterlife. If Sony are trying to grow the IP, they don't seem to be doing a good job. As I said.....Quality Control is needed.

    I’m not going to pick apart the movie’s flaws. There are plenty of people doing that right now. The best thing I can say about Frozen Empire is that it doesn’t feel like a carbon copy of any of its predecessors. As much as I love the first two Ghost Busters movies, GB2 very much felt as if it were following the map laid out by the original every step of the way. Frozen Empires has plenty of call backs, but it’s going its own way and STILL works. It’s not perfect, but it is a fun Ghost Busters movie that leaves me wanting more. I hope they make another one.
    The end credits scene was a waste of time, though. I was really hoping for another OG Ghost Busters scene but it’s not there. If you haven’t seen it yet, you can totally skip it if you have to go to the bathroom and not miss anything.

    My take: Villain deserved more dwell time on-screen. Same as Evo in Afterlife. Some shots could have been better-chosen. Solid story. Good/great acting. Dialog hit or miss. Great gags. Not really scary for adults but that's expected. Pacing issues in latter part. 7.5/10
    Hoping a Director's Cut or Special Edition will give us the 20-30 minutes or so it needed to land solidly as a horror-drama in addition to comedy (which it pulls off.)

    Saw it yesterday. I'm not saying this ironically, I think this was the first Ghostbusters sequel I actually enjoyed since the original! Ghostbusters was my favorite movie as a kid. Still an ALL-Time Classic!! But it truly was lightning in a bottle and you cannot replicate that. Frozen Empire wasn't a swing and a miss like GB2. It wasn't a quip-drenched, over saturated, dance-off like 2016, and it wasn't an all-out 'Member Berries orgy like Afterlife. I'm probably being a little too hard on the rest of the sequels for emphasis... and FE isn't perfect but it was the first GB movie that didn't feel like it had to carry the weight of what came before it. It was just a straight-forward, fun Ghost (bustin') story. It truly felt like watching a movie-length episode of Ghostbusters. Aykroyd, Rudd, Kumail, Grace, Potts, are all great! Bill Murray's got one good scene in it as well--reminiscent of the electro-shock scene from the original without going full 'Member Berries.
    But Yes, I recommend you see this movie!! It's fun!! I honestly think it might just be the best since the original :D

    i was invited to the australian premiere and saw an early screening last night, i’ve got to say..
    (spoilers)
    there are a bunch of clips from the trailers that seem to be made purely for the trailers.. they don’t show up in the film at all, such as janine’s “ghostbusters, whaddya want?!” line and lucky’s tear ducts freezing up, along with many others too. just thought that was interesting..

      I think they made a terrible mistake cutting, for whatever the reason, Murray's great line of "I'd shower, shave, then hit the clubs".

      @@seankyle1532 I agree, I really wanted to see that scene badly since it appeared in one of the tv spots. Also, as Jason mentioned in the video quite a few scenes that were in the trailers/ tv spots got removed from the final cut. However, we will get to see them once the movie hits Blu Ray/ DVD.

    Spoiler comment! I liked Kumail’s character but thought his mere presence in the movie as Fire Master, was kind of a cheat. And having Lucky and Podcast return through internships is plausible, but they could easily be removed and nothing would be affected.
