I strongly disagree, the interior finish difference between the Golf and the A3 has reduced significantly, the A3 has become LESS premium in this generation, now you don't get soft touch material in the rear doors and you don't get that plastic cover over the window metal frame, these were important distinctions between the previous Golf and A3 in terms of interior quality, now the A3 is just like the Golf.

I don't agree with him saying it's gone upmarket inside...cheap hard plastic all over the place...l have an A5 and it's quality is way above the A3.
At least it still has buttons rather than a touchscreen to control the ventilation, unlike the Golf 8
Ordered the hybrid version in S-line spec TFSI-e with the S-tronic system and the sound and comfort pack in Navara blue back in January of 2022, it finally gets delivered to me on the 31st of July 2023. Can't believe the waiting times from Audi.
A good review but not one that would set my wheels on fire. Reciting a script takes away spontaneity and genuine enthusiasm. Good to see that you are holding on.

So IS it better than a 1 series or A class, there didn’t seem to be an answer? Also, does this 1.5 engine still suffer with well reported issues?

1:56 how is it much easier to use, you cant even see it during driving without looking down? Dont encourage an unsafe application of technology like this screen, maybe the next gen will make it right if enough people criticize it.
Also, with that much noise in the cabin and the average space and materials, the premium over the golf is lost. Mercedes and BMW are seemingly better this generation.
The system is far more intuitive than the old setup, with more logical menus and better connectivity. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto add familiarity for smartphone users, too.
@@carbuyer But it isn't familiar. Android Auto works differently to Android on your phone. Only certain apps are compatible and their interface is different too, some more than others.
It seems to me that, despite my love of tech, a lot of Infotainment systems are a distraction. People just don't seem to be able to be disciplined enough not to dive into menus they're not familiar with whilst driving... thus taking their eyes off the road. Having the screen at eye level at least mitigates that a little.

I think you can deselect sports suspension. This might make a difference to the ride quality although maybe not the road noise.

I think the interior quality of the new A3 is nowhere near as good as the previous car. It now literally has nothing separating it from the Golf, except the price which in an Audi is simply not good enough. The Leon and the Octavia are the ones to keep an eye on.
We agree that the SEAT and Skoda are worth keeping an eye on - reviews of both are on the way very soon!
@@carbuyer I just don’t think there’s enough to separate them anymore. In my opinion, the Octavia has the nicest out of them all!

Nice little review but 2 things annoyed me. At 1.48 you state that the design hasn’t changed very much in the interior from the previous generation?! Ermmmm really? It’s completely different! Am i mean completly! 2nd thing that was annoying was that at 6:30 you state that it was hard to justify the price premium of the previous A3 over the Golf. Again... Really? A3 residuals were higher/depreciation lower meaning that it was economically a better buy than the Golf.

How has your experience been with it so far ? I’m looking to buy a saloon a3 so would love to know what you like / dislike and how long you’ve had it
I did drive both of them and i have to say that the A 250 simply is more fun to drive than the 148 hp Audi A3, also the Mercedes has better materials, alcantara leather on the inside area of the doors whereas Audi uses a lot of hard plastik. The interior of the Audi looks a bit more futuristic and i prefer it over the A class in terms of the way it looks but the materials in the Mercedes are slightly better in my opinion and also the engine with 224 hp over the 148 hp in the A3
I have the S-line. I love it. However, It is a bit annoying that for the price, you don’t get front sensors, a reverse camera, and heated seats. The interior is really nice. Everyone loves it. Powerful enough to zip around too 👍🏻
The interior in the Mercedes A-class is more futuristic and you get much more standard equipment in the A-class. The voice command is also better in the A-class. The only things you cant get in the A-class is a electric tailgate and animated headlights.

You complain about the road roar, but be fair to all other actual drivers who will usually have the radio on or music playing?!!

Here in Greece the 1.5 TFSI is only with the 7-speed automatic S-tronic. We don't have the manual gearbox with that engine. Manual gearbox it's with only the 1 liter with 110hp. I don't understand why,
Same in Italy
It's probably due to market trends. The automatic is likely more popular, and therefore Audi can't justify selling the larger engine with a manual gearbox.

With the greatest of respect, there are cheap plastics high up, ie the air vents and the door handle. The cup holder is cheap and nasty and has no cover!! Even the Golf GTD 2017 plate had this. The storage is down in comparison to the Golf GTD I replaced. Take it out of Dynamic mode and put it into comfort mode and this sorts out the harsher ride and road noise. It's a very nice car but not as premium as it should be! Small details have let Audi down a bit I feel.
Wait a Minute! I think Ginny Buckley and James Batchelor quit reviewing cars at Carbuyer. I think he should review the New Mercedes E-Class Coupe, and the model is AMG E53.

It’s Back
I had the A class hybrid a few weeks back, that also suffers a lot of road noise which is further enhanced because of the lack of engine noise. I guess this’ll be the same then which is a shame. I suppose I’ll just have to get a Bentley for the quietness.
It's a problem that plagues many hybrid and electric cars. The car manufacturers have got their work cut out over the next few years...
@@carbuyer I think many cars suffer from this issue with road noise, changing the tyres to something high profile and softer side walls may help

Welcome back - I’ve been awaiting a good review of the new A3
Back in september I've signed a leasing contract for this new A3 Sportback S Line, and the latest update is that i will probably get it in around february 2021. Apparently they are missing a modul in the car, and that's the reason for the delay, at least here in Denmark. Is it the same in other countries?

Choosing S-Line with manual and that poor version of the cocpit screen is dumb. The same price would be without the S-Line, but with S-Tronic (1.5 comes with mild hybrid) and the bigger cocpit screen. Sport seats are the same, just without the "S" logo. Plus, the standard line comes with standard suspension: +15 mm and more comfortable.

@TKDKobioshi Well you spend mostly of the time in the car driving and it is other people looking at the outside; but I see your point.
However, if looks are more important to you, you have to go for the one that looks better for you and if you are willing to pay a premium for the badge. I know what I would chose ;)

They seriously need to re think what there doing with the bottom of there rear bumpers, all that cheap plastic with stupid fake exhaust, so many people complain about the same thing but audi keep doing it, are they aware of people's thoughts?

You contradicted yourself, you said the integrated screen is nicer than the previous tablet like stuck screen, then you said the Mercs screen is the best, HOW???.....ALL MERCS HAVE STRETCHED IPAD SCREENS STUCK TO THE DASH!!! Horrible design! I would never go for any mercs, they all have horrible tablet stuck to the dash!
The tablets on the days by nerd are simply the BEST thing to come out of any manufacturer in the last 10yrs
I also noticed noise coming from the wheels. This was one of the main reasons I picked the 118i (also cheaper)

Nice to see you're back. But are you back for good..?? Nice review and the Rd tyres were very loud. But why does every car reviewer constantly go on about the VW Golf. There a tonnes of cars out there now that are more stylish and better then the Golf. The Golf which must be one of the most boring looking cars on the Rd now. Pls stop mentioning the golf. Concentrate on the car you're reviewing...Cheers
We are! We've been filming constantly for the past few months with loads of great content ready to go.
The reason we (and many others) refer to the Golf when talking about mid-size family cars is largely due to familiarity. There are many, many accomplished cars in this area of the market, but the Golf is still the one most people recognise.
Letting Matt Watson Go Was The Biggest Mistake Of CARBUYER! I remember watching them 4 years ago. hopefully you guys do well there is a lot of good competition out there.

Two things- The new Golf is a complete mistake. It looks ugly and its way too expensive compared to the Audi A3. Why even bother! However, going with the A3 upgrading to Saloon and the S-line version is a must.
Have you actually seen the Golf in person?
Go and have a look at latest Mk8 Golf in dark grey or dark blue colour (specc'ed up to at least 'Life' or even 'R' trim). Golf actually looks really
good in the flesh. This latest Audi A3 is the mistake, in terms of interior just so the car can be turned into an iphone. Surprising cheap plastics in parts of interior compared to the BMW 1 series 128ti upwards....and a stupid volume circle dial instead of just a button would do..
Don’t bother with Audi dealers, 3 times I have been to my local dealership trying to buy a car. Each time I was treated with utter contempt, hence Volvo since having 80k of my business. They prefix all their models with A, Q or TT in my opinion their school sales report would be marked with a Z.....🤔

You're bang on. Went to Audi Warrington a few years back. Waited a long time, was totally ignored. Their attitude seemed to be customers should be thanking them. They were totally disinterested. Left and Bought a BMW. Never looked back.

The quality of the Audi A3 is questionable, I have a previous A3 model and I am not satisfied at all. Here’s just one example I’ve seen with other owners as well: protective shock absorber covers that persistently fall out of the case and leave the shock absorber unprotected. Typically for the VAG concern, they have fucked millions of people, and they are never responsible for anything, I will not mention dieselgate. It doesn't fit a premium car at all, it's a shame, I even think that the new Renault Megane is much better done, that is, I didn't notice that anyone complains about idiotic flaws like at Audi.

Who writes this? Don’t go for the softer suspension and smaller wheels! Terrible advice. You’ll ruin the the look of the car so would be better buying a cheaper car.

Pretty crap review. Interior has changed loads and quality is poor. How can he say it’s not much different? A-class infotainment better? What about the 1 series, bmw infotainment widely regarded as the best in class.

@@georgedowns4034 the design has objectively changed quite a bit. Its like saying yellow and purple are the same colour and it’s my subjective opinion so it’s ok. No, they are quite different.

cheaper looking interior than previous models and overall a boring car. boring to drive too. only reason you would get an a3 is is you're shallow and want a badge.
