That intro is pretty funny. I know people use the Constellation Alpha as a collective, but I've never heard of or even thought about using a collective as a cyclic/center stick!
Flight simming for decades, had practically everyone since the mid 80's. Loved me some Janes Longbow and Longbow 2. Finally bit the bullet and purchased my first collective (Virpil TCS Plus and Hawk-60 grip), after getting a taste of the DCS Apache. I fly more fixed wing than rotary (fixed wing IRL as well), but with the 64, Kiowa and Chinook on the horizon, a HOTAS throttle won't do. So this video was extremely helpful to me as I await it's arrival. Glad I didn't get the chair mount because I like the Monstertech solution better. Also ordered a counterweight for this bad boy. 😉 Thanks
Is the counterweight mandatory for a good experience? Does it mean that without would mean bumpy (not smooth) movements ? Or is it just for getting perfection?
goooosh, EXCELLENT!!!!! WAY more accessible and looks way more sturdy than komodos one... searching one since YEARS, many thanks for your vid!!! APPRECIATED :) :) Cheers
Good to see you back posting another review. Dual Constellation Alpha user and Virpil fan myself; partly thanks to your reviews. Appreciate your concise style and production quality, keep it up!
Winwing recently came out with a collective and it would be interesting to see a comparison between it and the Virpil product. They've also just came out with a new F16 patterned stick and throttle which look really interesting. I'd love to see your thoughts on them if you were able to get ahold of them.
Any chance you can detail which exact Monstertech Mount you're using here? I've just ordered the Plus Base and UH-60 Grip and need an alternative to the VIRPIL chair mount.
The only reason I haven't bought the Virpil collective is because my Virpil CM3 has way more buttons on it than that one KA50 grip :P I much prefer using my throttle as it has a ton of buttons and switches on it :)
Great Review, I just bought it after watching! Can I ask You wich Monstertech Mount You use (link) and also wich keyboard and support are depicted in the video (I'm struggling to found a keyboard and a holder to have a like You installation). Thx.
I bought the Virpil Constellation Alpha (Left hand) for the purpose of flying the AH. The angle of the grip is a bit wonky, but it has hella buttons, and a joystick axis.
Great review as always. What’s your go to stick for DCS? VKB MCG Ultimate grip and Gunfighter Mk.III with Stronghold? I’m fairly new to DCS, but have been using PC Sims since USNF and SU-27 Flanker in the 90’s (I’ve been away from PC gaming for about 10 years), and was initially thinking about the Gladiator, but I really want something with an extension, so ultimately I’d be wasting money if I don’t get a Virpil or VKB base. Thanks.
Do yourself a favour and stick with Thrustmaster compatible stuff. There is a certain danger of falling into a collector's pattern, but hey, everybody loves toys 🙂
@@velamenradicum Based on everything I’ve read that would probably be my last choice. I’ve owned a T500 wheel for a very long time and while it was deemed pretty good in its day, the competition has overtaken them and they do nothing about it. It’s the same with the Warthog and 16000. 10+ year old technology. They’re just lazy.
Hey Jesse, great review! Even though I'm not certain I will get into helo flying anytime soon, I very much appreciate VirPil expanding their line with solid products. How's the family doing and I hope the little one is okay! Oh is there any chance you'll be reviewing the Z extension from VirPil as well? I am curious to hear what your thoughts on those are. Be safe out there man and hope you're well!
It should have come with a counter balance system of some sort, maybe one that slides in and out, as the big problem with this type of device if made cheaper and more compact like this is the way it holds in place by friction, which unfortunately produces something I absolutely hate, stiction. Which is a killer for fine control and for helicopters you need that more than anything as they are really sensitive and a real handful to fly. So I made my own counter balance which allowed me to lower the friction and therefore the stiction. It’s not perfect, as real collectives are probably harder to move, but they also have far less stiction so it’s the best compromise other than some sort of damper, but they can also have stiction from my experience. I’ll be honest with you, this review could have done with a bit more detail.
Thanks for the video. I am a Kamov 32 pilot and I can’t wait to get one of those!

Such a great vid, not a piece of kit I thought I needed until I saw this. Hope all going well.
Where can I find the special mount for the collective? The Virpil mount doesn’t fit on my secret labs chair too…
I think monstertec fits but I’m not sure m, have you found a solution because I’m in the same boat

Finally a new video! Great! 👍🏻👍🏻

welcome back, good review ;) greetings from germany

I have tried to get my hands on WinWing stuff. Outside of buying it all I have been unsuccessful but would love to check it out.
Jesse, plz nooo, just bought an above-MSRP video card!
Great to see you back, Jesse. And great review as well!
Thanks MT!

one important thing that vid did notcovered is how well the collective hover on any angle. How much force do you need to do small adjustments
Nice review! Now come fly with me 😁
Wish you published more videos but they seem to be in line with VPC's shipping time frames :) Just kidding! This was a great review!

What s your opinion about VPC and apache v3
Nice Video!! What about Winwin new F-16 throtle and grip combo?? ;)
What MonsterTech mount did you get for the collective?
"Guys only want one thing and it's disgusting."
Can anyone tell me why they decided to move throttle as a separate piece and not actually include it onto grip itself? Huge deal breaker for me

OK, got a Virpil Collective and can’t figure out how to map it I’m DCS
Will this work on MSFS 2020? I've been using a VKB GNX-THQ when I'm flying helos in Microsoft Flight Sim.
Right after your intro you said "this'll bring the trolls" why?
Awesome piece of kit and great quality video as always! Question: with the AH64 coming "soon" in DCS, which grip would you pick for it?
I bought the Virpil Constellation Alpha (Left hand) for the purpose of flying the AH. The angle of the grip is a bit wonky, but it has hella buttons, and a joystick axis.
I would go for the Hawk-60 for the AH-64 as it has 4 8 way hats, and the ah-64 in real life has a lot of buttons on the collective.
Nice review
Thanks!
Hey @Jesse what monitor are you running?
That one in the video is the LG CX 48.
My brain: “I’m sure there’s a perfectly logical explanation for why he’s doing that.”
XD
Made my day! 😂

Wasn't universal on my chair either. I wasted money on it and almost impossible to check before you actually buy the damn thing.
😂 the video preview had me dying before I even watched the video. Did you see the VPC teaser for the Pedal?

Monstertech
Been a minute
The buttons on the hand control are trash. Double presses ask the time on the thumb sticks
