Played with a 16th note swing feel (sometimes called shuffle). There's some really interesting ryhtmic complexities from that idea and getting the while thing in the pocket might be hard. Just practice and analyzing each bar will get you there. Slap part on the chorus may also require some study (remember using your wrist for fast slapping movements, not straining yourself too miuch with arm movements). Verse is in G Major (Mixolydian approach), 2nd Verse modulates to F Major (same approach), Pre Chorus modulating to G Minor (G Dorian approach) and Chorus staying on the same key with a C Dorian approach:

@@SoldatDeRigel it does. You have to be good in order to keep getting hired to play sessions. Besides, Jeff Porcaro is still the best drummer to have ever played in Toto. Even Simon couldn't play the Rosanna shuffle exactly like he originally did.

Wow, excellent job, CoverSolutiins! What’s more interesting is I’ve seen Toto live a few times and the "slap part" was not done at all. I even watched additional concert footage on TH-cam and found the bassist does not slap, however, you can clearly here there IS a slap in the song!
Very interesting to say the least. Even more odd is the bassist uses a 5 string in some of the footage I found? I’m perplexed as to why, but I guess he has his reasons.

I saw them on the Pori Jazz festival this summer and their bassist totally played the lick there. Personally I've been playing that part with a regular technique though as imo it sounds less distracting without slapping.
Probably because it’s more economical and less tiring to just finger pick.
Is it David Hungate you're talking about?
You probably saw Mike Porcaro or someone other than David Hungate live. Hungate played (slapped) on the studio version. I also saw a live version with Mike playing a 5 string Cirrus and he didn't slap the chorus.
Check out Rossana live 2003 Mike Porcaro plays the lick slapped and it sounds amazing !

I believe that slap lick isn't a hammer on from Bb to C it's from A to C from an open string to C.

There is an isolated file from a TH-cam user Digital Split which if claimed is the from the original recording then yes it sounds like as Emir says an A note and hammered to the C. However, many TH-cam live clips of the song from Toto show Mike Pocaro, Nathan East and Lee Sklar all playing Bb to C..... some hammering/slapping and some not. So I think both version are acceptable at this point!
In the recording, David Hungate was the bassist at that point.
