I'm 32, and saw you for the first time when I was 19, when you were playing with Toto (Falling in between tour)...last time I saw you (second) was with Phil, not long ago. I want to thank you so much for what you do. You've done everything, played with almost everyone...for that, you are my favorite bass player. Hope to meet you someday. Greetings.

Forgive me Mr. Sklar, but up until I came across this video, I only knew you as the bass player with the long beard. As a musician (drummer/percussionist) myself, I always had an appreciation for the musicians behind the artist. I recall as a kid seeing you in music videos and live performances on tv during the 80s and 90s, and I was always drawn to you but never knew your name. You just had that cool factor and you wore it well. Fast foward to 2018, I went to see Phil Collins live for the first time at Brooklyn's Barclay's center, and when the band came on I jumped out of my seat and yelled out to my brother who was with me, "oh my God the bass player with the long beard." He then looked at me with a confused look and said "huh?" He had no idea what the hell I was talking about. I was so star strucked with you more than I was with Phil, but I also remember feeling embarrassed because I didn't know you by your name and only by face. It was really nice seeing you after all these years and to know that you are well. I feel really guilty that I never bothered to google you, however today, I finally put a name to the legendary bass player with the long beard. Thank you Mr. Leland Sklar for all that you do. I enjoyed the video.

Leland, my man, your energy is infectious, as is your joy of the instrument and music in general, and what you brought to Toto was an added intensity and solid dynamic, and that’s saying something, eh? I was a touring musician for many years, and to establish that unspoken synergy and telepathy with other musicians, and then transfer that to the audience, is really such a rare treat, and a natural opiate that becomes as addictive. I was blessed to meet Luke at a guitar workshop in Boston a while ago, and my first two questions were, “What was it like to work with Jeff (Porcaro)” and “How did you manage to snag Leland?” ... he got a real kick out of the second one, and told an anecdote about meeting and working with you that was nothing less than effusive, and even more enjoyable - suffice it to say he thinks the world of you, both as a musician and a human, and his opinion carries much weight with me. Blessings to you, Sir, and thank you for being the epitome of inspiration for me - I choose my heroes well!

TBH I love the flexibility of that song! I wish I had been able to see this version live. As a drummer this is really one of the hardest and best grooves practice, along with Bonham's "Fool In The Rain" and a couple other Purdue shuffles. And this song was magical from the moment it was tracked. Amazing.

I was lucky enough to make Leland’s acquaintance working in the landscape industry and actually did some work at his home. Even though I was awestruck knowing who he was and his body of work. I can attest to his warm and welcoming demeanor. Really an Everyman. Glad to see he is still doing so well. The Paris concert he did with Toto ranks high with me.

That Weather Report breakdown at 6:08 and the Jaco-isms were pretty damn slick!

Not for nothing brother Leland, but watching you play the electric bass to your live performance reminds me of how nostalgia is so joyful and therapeutic. You, amongst other musicians, are the reason music is indeed timeless and universal. Thank you.

2:39 That part really makes the song. It's the most straightforward piece of bass in the song, but that really drives it home.

Agreed. The bassline is sort of insistent, it makes that little bridge sound like a march. The drummer plays some triplet ghost notes to imply 12/8 as well, not many but they're there.
