Which means whatever you do to that something, they feel like you're doing that to them. If you criticize, attack, or even show any negative feelings towards the something, they feel that.
The fact that he just sat back and watched his fans attack people for thinking he cheated when he did is kind of ridiculous, he said he knew for awhile and he just let it happen, he also was very rude to a lot of people along with him saying he "deleted his mod folder from frustration" is not something you would do if you knew you were innocent, he should not be allowed to submit anymore speed runs.

The issue isn’t him cheating as much as it is him submitting the cheat, harassing the mod who did his job, denying (lying), and never apologizing for his actions. Just pure scumbag behavior, the fact it’s been this long and he hasn’t admitted to cheating baffles me.
All dream had to do was just admit that he forgot to deactivate all the mods he had on the game and apologize from the beginning and most people would have forgiven him and the rest would have moved on after a week. This is a perfect example of refusing to put down the shovel and to just keep digging the hole instead.

@@asmephestoh the dude said he used a mod like that in a previous version of the game, and all he used in this version was a "chat plugin" i think it was, or at least thats all dream knew it to be. it turns out the dev of that plugin re added the increased rng features client-side so it would work on singleplayer without dream's knowledge, so it's not too far fetched that dream wouldn't know. however, you'd think it would at least be in the back of his mind right? that maybe he would check the plugin he does have running just in case? the fact that it took this long makes me suspicious that he spent all this time thinking up an explanation that vindicates him but is actually a lie

In Dream's case, he is absolutely responsible for his stan's actions because he has, countless times, defended and encouraged their awful actions and the harassment of other content creators by them in the past. It's true that content creators ultimately have no control over what their stans do, but if you actively defend their heinous actions and the horrible things they do, you are basically giving them the OK sign that their greatest idol of all time is absolutely okay with such unhealthy behavior, and thus more of them will feel less ashamed of and double down with such behavior.
He will NEVER stop his stans and apologize for there actions, because they are his source of income and they fuel his ego and pride. He will keep defending them because he’s selfish even tho you don’t have to be a genius to know the harm they cause.

“Accidentally cheated” Some things don’t add up. A while back, he sent the moderators his mod folder. On it there was no trace of a mod being on it. If he accidentally had a mod wouldn’t it still be there and have a trace of it being put on? *He knew what he was doing*
You can install multiple instances of a single game and properly clean folders and files if you know what you are doing, sending a folder actually means nothing if you are skeptical enough.
also, like muta said had he been honest he would have know he had a mod that did exactly what he was being accused of and looked into if it was on earlier. he 100% knew and is just trying to save face to the people that wouldn't even care if he just outright said he cheated in the firstplace.
He also sent the game logs from the time of his runs, which would not have been deleted from switching out his mods folder. From what I know, Fabric tells you in the logs which mods are initialized, it is similar to forge in that respect. This means that dream had to have consciously removed any trace of the mod from the logs before he sent it in, given that the evidence the mod team had was statistical, and they did not bring up the logs he sent.
Cheating in a speed run shouldn’t end Dream’s career, harassing people and coaxing his fans into pushing people (who VALIDLY called him out) into fucking depression should end his career. He routinely has little regard for how his actions hurt other people, he’s not someone you want to keep giving the “benefit of the doubt”.
When it comes to stans, I really like how Ludwig dealt with them. He blatantly told everyone he does not know them, he does not love them. He appreciates them as an audience and for putting him where he is, but him not knowing them personally makes him unable to care and love for them as he would someone irl. Dream stans and many other stans (cough cough, Corpse) have formed this weird, parasocial relationships with them to the point where they’re harassing other people about this person and it gets way out of hand. Fans like these is what turns me off from certain communities. I know most of the time it is not the creators fault, but still. Dreams stans literally changed their whole defense narrative. no not really, he uploads actual speed runs rarely once in a while. It’s mainly him fighting his friends and pulling off sick plays. You might think it’s a speedrun but it’s not because he doesn’t care about time he’s just finding the most entertaining, quickest and funnest way to pull of tricks or plays on his friends.

Dream was literally the one who tweeted his apology, and I'm pretty sure you Dream Stans follow him on Twitter, so don't act like you didn't see it. 2. "it's just a game" Speedrunning is taken very seriously, it's a huge chunk of the gaming community, and having someone as big a Dream cheating in a Speedrun, paints a bad look on the Speedrunning community. 3. "you guys are beating a dead horse/stop milking this drama" Dream was literally the one who brought it back 7 months later, so don't accuse us of milking it. 4. "all you guys are hating on him, but you guys need to keep in mind about his mental health" He's the one who sent all of his Stans to harass anyone who exposed him, causing countless people's mental health to go down as well. ALSO, he literally has 20 million people supporting him, and others didn't. He also looked completely fine in his live stream talking about this situation. 5. "he's so good at speedrunning though, so why would he cheat?" Just because you're good at a game, doesn't mean there's a 0% chance of you cheating. In his live streams, he was showing that he was fed up with all the luck needed to Speedrun 1.16, which is most likely the main reason for him cheating. 6. "it was an accident!" It was pretty obvious that he was having insane luck during his live streams, even he would be able to see himself. Also, when the moderators asked for his Mods Files, he said that he deleted them out of anger. How convenient that right when he got called out, that he suddenly deleted his Mod Files...

Exactly. If the numbers showed his odds were extraordinary, it should only have taken him a second to check, turn the mods off, and apologize for "accidentally cheating". Instead he put a ridiculous amount of effort into disproving those claims, and with all that effort put into the research the fact that his mods were on would've come up eventually. Dream cheating in a speedrun is a HUGE deal because not only does it question the overall integrity of the speedrunning community, but it also shits on the efforts of those that speedrun games and dedicate their time and effort to do so. What mind boggles me is that people who previously got caught cheating in a speedrun in which they officially submitted, had their entire career ruined. There was no way for them to recover from being caught cheating, once it happens you're done for; finished. But with Dream, people want us to turn a blind eye when all the people before him got completely ruined. It is a tremendous deal especially since Dream is a big content creator. Whats worse is that this pretty much proves that you have to cut corners in order for your channel to rise as quick as Dream.

"Runners dedicating hours of their life" My dude thats an understatement. There are runners that spend entire days, if not weeks, if not months, in runs. Like, there are runs with tens of thousands, of attempts. Even with short runs like Super Mario Bros on NES, that would be days of playtime. And thats not counting segmented attempts or just practice runs.
He did further clarify later in the video, saying 'hours *a day*'. I don't think he's really oblivious to how much of a commitment speedrunning can be lol
It's taken 20 years to get SMB to the point it's at now, with hundreds of people spending months picking the game apart at the seams trying to find ways to get the run to where it is now. It's a very serious sport.
I don't think, Muta, that you fully understand why this was a "big deal." It's not the fact that he cheated at a run, but rather how he reacted after getting called out. He publicly insulted the mod team, denied the allegations for months, brought in a Totally Real™ Statistician to write a report that many were quick to criticize, further denied the allegations, allowed and enabled his fans to harass those who spoke in opposition of him over the situation publicly, and overall did all of this while flexing his massive ego. What I've learned about Dream in the past year is that he's definitely a pathological liar with a huge expanding ego. This is a black eye on not only Minecraft but the entire speed running scene. The best corse of action is to ban Dream from posting runs on any official level ever again. Dream has shown that despite his intellect he is incredibly egotistical, and allowed his hubris to give him the confidence to think he wouldn’t be caught. His fan base has also shown itself to be dangerous, making threats to the lives of the mods involved and there loved ones, and going off Dreams “stance” on stans he is also very irresponsible with said fan base. I however do not think he should be “canceled” for this, it was a honest mistake, and in the end it’s just a video game. The only measures that should be taken is to have him ex-communicated from the speed running scene, at least in the top level play.

What I meant was what he did (in terms of just the cheating aspect, not about the mod or fans stuff) is not big enough to get his entire career canceled, it’s enough to get him kicked from ever participating in speed running in the top 100 level of play, but it is not enough to destroy his career over in my eyes. At around minute 8 you talk on how the statistical analysis report by part of the moderation team was "cringy" and not career destroying worthy, keep in mind the reason this more serious report was made because dream blew this shit out of proportion calling out the mods on twitter, and he did not give the modpack folder to the moderators because he deleted it out of "frustration", I think the mods did the only thing they could have possibly done to prove to a big audience attracted by dream that he did cheat.

While I'd also love to go back to the days of "The Pack", Captain Sparklez, Stampy, ect I do think its a bit unfair to dump this onto the new generation of MCYT as a collective rather than blaming it on a change in the wider internet landscape. Its an unfair comparison to begin with because "stan culture" didn't really extend to many (if any) YT creators at all "back in the day" (or at least not that I'm aware of, feel free to correct me). Besides, the only new MCYT'er who is especially guilty of this is Dream, who doesn't bother handling his stanbase's actions at all. Sure you have stans in the fandoms of other MCYTers as well, but in 2021 if you have many millions subscribers you will have an unfortunate amount of stans, regardless of whether the channel is centered around Minecraft or something else entirely. Lastly, Minecraft as a game attracts a large majority of children. Mixing those immature audience members with internet stan culture (especially twitter stan culture) is unfortunately just the perfect recipe for unbearable standom crapstorms. TLDR: Dream is the only MCYTer I'm aware of that has a stanbase more toxic and numerous than average, relative to subscriber numbers. For most of the other new multi-million sub MCYTers, its just the case now that internet creators that popular are seen as semi-celebrities and receive the stans as a package deal with that status. Blaming them as individuals for causing this is a bit unfair. Also, Children + twitter stan culture = fanart that would make hallowed grounds cursed.
I think it's not ok for Dream to get better treatment just because he's famous. If he was just some guy his run would've been taken down and, he would have been permabanned, no questions asked.

Some runners just own up to it, then work on rebuilding their trust and reputation and they're always welcomed back with open arms, Dream couldn't have handled this worse, throwing a damn tantrum and throwing his rabid fanbase at the moderation team. I would be very disappointed if he ever got a run verified again, even if it is legitimate.
the best part is it took him NEARLY A YEAR to "realize" that he accidently cheated. And it's literally spelled out in the Speedrun dot com rules since *2018* that if you play with a mod/resource pack on the moderators can and probably will reject your run for using a mod or resource pack.

The issue isn’t him cheating as much as it is him submitting the cheat, harassing the mod who did his job, denying (lying), and never apologizing for his actions. Just pure scumbag behavior, the fact it’s been this long and he hasn’t admitted to cheating baffles me.
All dream had to do was just admit that he forgot to deactivate all the mods he had on the game and apologize from the beginning and most people would have forgiven him and the rest would have moved on after a week. This is a perfect example of refusing to put down the shovel and to just keep digging the hole instead.

however, you'd think it would at least be in the back of his mind right? that maybe he would check the plugin he does have running just in case? the fact that it took this long makes me suspicious that he spent all this time thinking up an explanation that vindicates him but is actually a lie

In Dream's case, he is absolutely responsible for his stan's actions because he has, countless times, defended and encouraged their awful actions and the harassment of other content creators by them in the past. It's true that content creators ultimately have no control over what their stans do, but if you actively defend their heinous actions and the horrible things they do, you are basically giving them the OK sign that their greatest idol of all time is absolutely okay with such unhealthy behavior, and thus more of them will feel less ashamed of and double down with such behavior.

Some things don’t add up. A while back, he sent the moderators his mod folder. On it there was no trace of a mod being on it. If he accidentally had a mod wouldn’t it still be there and have a trace of it being put on? *He knew what he was doing*
Is it possible to have multiple mod folders or directories from different versions or the same version he played on? I’m genuinely curious.
You can install multiple instances of a single game and properly clean folders and files if you know what you are doing, sending a folder actually means nothing if you are skeptical enough.
also, like muta said had he been honest he would have know he had a mod that did exactly what he was being accused of and looked into if it was on earlier. he 100% knew and is just trying to save face to the people that wouldn't even care if he just outright said he cheated in the firstplace.

He also sent the game logs from the time of his runs, which would not have been deleted from switching out his mods folder. From what I know, Fabric tells you in the logs which mods are initialized, it is similar to forge in that respect. This means that dream had to have consciously removed any trace of the mod from the logs before he sent it in, given that the evidence the mod team had was statistical, and they did not bring up the logs he sent.
Cheating in a speed run shouldn’t end Dream’s career, harassing people and coaxing his fans into pushing people (who VALIDLY called him out) into fucking depression should end his career. He routinely has little regard for how his actions hurt other people, he’s not someone you want to keep giving the “benefit of the doubt”.

When it comes to stans, I really like how Ludwig dealt with them. He blatantly told everyone he does not know them, he does not love them. He appreciates them as an audience and for putting him where he is, but him not knowing them personally makes him unable to care and love for them as he would someone irl.
Dream stans and many other stans (cough cough, Corpse) have formed this weird, parasocial relationships with them to the point where they’re harassing other people about this person and it gets way out of hand. Fans like these is what turns me off from certain communities. I know most of the time it is not the creators fault, but still. Dreams stans literally changed their whole defense narrative. One moment it’s, “he didn’t cheat! You guys are just jealous and spiteful nobodies” and the next it’s, “so what if he cheated? He has ADHD”. Like, huh?

Speedrunning is taken very seriously, it's a huge chunk of the gaming community, and having someone as big a Dream cheating in a Speedrun, paints a bad look on the Speedrunning community.
3. "you guys are beating a dead horse/stop milking this drama"
Dream was literally the one who brought it back 7 months later, so don't accuse us of milking it.
4. "all you guys are hating on him, but you guys need to keep in mind about his mental health"
He's the one who sent all of his Stans to harass anyone who exposed him, causing countless people's mental health to go down as well. ALSO, he literally has 20 million people supporting him, and others didn't. He also looked completely fine in his live stream talking about this situation.
5. "he's so good at speedrunning though, so why would he cheat?"
Just because you're good at a game, doesn't mean there's a 0% chance of you cheating. In his live streams, he was showing that he was fed up with all the luck needed to Speedrun 1.16, which is most likely the main reason for him cheating.
6. "it was an accident!"
It was pretty obvious that he was having insane luck during his live streams, even he would be able to see himself. Also, when the moderators asked for his Mods Files, he said that he deleted them out of anger. How convenient that right when he got called out, that he suddenly deleted his Mod Files...

Exactly. If the numbers showed his odds were extraordinary, it should only have taken him a second to check, turn the mods off, and apologize for "accidentally cheating".
Instead he put a ridiculous amount of effort into disproving those claims, and with all that effort put into the research the fact that his mods were on would've come up eventually.

Dream cheating in a speedrun is a HUGE deal because not only does it question the overall integrity of the speedrunning community, but it also shits on the efforts of those that speedrun games and dedicate their time and effort to do so. What mind boggles me is that people who previously got caught cheating in a speedrun in which they officially submitted, had their entire career ruined. There was no way for them to recover from being caught cheating, once it happens you're done for; finished. But with Dream, people want us to turn a blind eye when all the people before him got completely ruined.
It is a tremendous deal especially since Dream is a big content creator. Whats worse is that this pretty much proves that you have to cut corners in order for your channel to rise as quick as Dream.

My dude thats an understatement. There are runners that spend entire days, if not weeks, if not months, in runs. Like, there are runs with tens of thousands, of attempts. Even with short runs like Super Mario Bros on NES, that would be days of playtime. And thats not counting segmented attempts or just practice runs.

Super Mario Bros. in particular is so optimized that people are spending years and years to save a frame or two.
It's taken 20 years to get SMB to the point it's at now, with hundreds of people spending months picking the game apart at the seams trying to find ways to get the run to where it is now. It's a very serious sport.
I don't think, Muta, that you fully understand why this was a "big deal." It's not the fact that he cheated at a run, but rather how he reacted after getting called out. He publicly insulted the mod team, denied the allegations for months, brought in a Totally Real™ Statistician to write a report that many were quick to criticize, further denied the allegations, allowed and enabled his fans to harass those who spoke in opposition of him over the situation publicly, and overall did all of this while flexing his massive ego.
What I've learned about Dream in the past year is that he's definitely a pathological liar with a huge expanding ego. I don't expect much out of internet personalities, but it's definitely turned me from being a genuine fan and supporter to someone who can't stand him and especially his community. Which btw, yes he in this case is responsible for his fans as he pretty consistently enables them to be as heinous and vile as they usually are to everyone else.
So Tldr, partially agree with you, but think that you are downplaying the situation as this whole thing is a good read on his character. And not only that, but also the problem with his fanbase.

Dream recently encouraged his twitter followers to go attack people who make content about him cheating. Dream is 100% responsible for his fans.
This is a black eye on not only Minecraft but the entire speed running scene. The best corse of action is to ban Dream from posting runs on any official level ever again. Dream has shown that despite his intellect he is incredibly egotistical, and allowed his hubris to give him the confidence to think he wouldn’t be caught. His fan base has also shown itself to be dangerous, making threats to the lives of the mods involved and there loved ones, and going off Dreams “stance” on stans he is also very irresponsible with said fan base.
I however do not think he should be “canceled” for this, it was a honest mistake, and in the end it’s just a video game. The only measures that should be taken is to have him ex-communicated from the speed running scene, at least in the top level play.
I disagree with you on the “honest” mistake part. It is VERY hard to ACCIDENTALLY leave a mod/plug in. The fact he kept denying it all for soooo long shows that he should be cancelled and distrusted. He is also using his “Dream Stans” to help him out. He’s a manipulative, lying bastard. (also this isn’t aimed at you, fellow peer, but simply speaking my opinion)

What I meant was what he did (in terms of just the cheating aspect, not about the mod or fans stuff) is not big enough to get his entire career canceled, it’s enough to get him kicked from ever participating in speed running in the top 100 level of play, but it is not enough to destroy his career over in my eyes. Now although Dream is incredibly manipulative, that looks to be born out of his egotism more then nefarious intent. The people who are of his friends seem to care deeply for the guy and he’s probably not a horrible in person (of corse some relations are completely for show, and only meant to further there careers. This is business after all).
Anything to deal with his stans and miss use of said stans is a situation that goes much deeper then this, all I meant was he shouldn’t get canceled for the cheating, and that’s coming from somebody who’s been in the speed running community for years (although I mostly do Zelda stuff).
I will say this however, I feel as though this shows that he isn’t acting in the Dream SMP, he’s simply being himself.

At around minute 8 you talk on how the statistical analysis report by part of the moderation team was "cringy" and not career destroying worthy, keep in mind the reason this more serious report was made because dream blew this shit out of proportion calling out the mods on twitter, and he did not give the modpack folder to the moderators because he deleted it out of "frustration", I think the mods did the only thing they could have possibly done to prove to a big audience attracted by dream that he did cheat.
His excuse fucks his credibility even more, along with the fact that he wouldn't take full responsibility nor take a moment to realize how fucking shitty his excuse is. While I'd also love to go back to the days of "The Pack", Captain Sparklez, Stampy, ect I do think its a bit unfair to dump this onto the new generation of MCYT as a collective rather than blaming it on a change in the wider internet landscape.
Its an unfair comparison to begin with because "stan culture" didn't really extend to many (if any) YT creators at all "back in the day" (or at least not that I'm aware of, feel free to correct me).
Besides, the only new MCYT'er who is especially guilty of this is Dream, who doesn't bother handling his stanbase's actions at all. Sure you have stans in the fandoms of other MCYTers as well, but in 2021 if you have many millions subscribers you will have an unfortunate amount of stans, regardless of whether the channel is centered around Minecraft or something else entirely.
Lastly, Minecraft as a game attracts a large majority of children. Mixing those immature audience members with internet stan culture (especially twitter stan culture) is unfortunately just the perfect recipe for unbearable standom crapstorms.
TLDR: Dream is the only MCYTer I'm aware of that has a stanbase more toxic and numerous than average, relative to subscriber numbers. For most of the other new multi-million sub MCYTers, its just the case now that internet creators that popular are seen as semi-celebrities and receive the stans as a package deal with that status. Blaming them as individuals for causing this is a bit unfair.
Also, Children + twitter stan culture = fanart that would make hallowed grounds cursed.

Some runners just own up to it, then work on rebuilding their trust and reputation and they're always welcomed back with open arms, Dream couldn't have handled this worse, throwing a damn tantrum and throwing his rabid fanbase at the moderation team. I would be very disappointed if he ever got a run verified again, even if it is legitimate.

The main issue isn’t that Dream cheated, it’s that he never took any responsibility for what him and his fans did.
Of course he cant control every single stan they are individual people but they ARE under one banner. And the banner says "Dream". If a president says "I want you all to bully disabled people" Sane people are going to say no, people who are insane or practically zealots will do what they say. You might not have control over those direct people but your words have influence. Watch them carefully as a big content creator who especially has influence with younger children.

While I respect your position, I think laughing it off and moving on isn't an option. Dream tried to cheat his way onto the leaderboards and when that didn't work he used his considerable name recognition to try to bully any opponents into submission. It sets a bad precedent that influence and ego can get you whatever you want.

@@nekoluxuria7721 You can't even run plugins on singleplayer. So he'd need a mod that he'd KNOW is client-side to do what he claims it's for. And it's literally spelled out in the Speedrun dot com rules since *2018* that if you play with a mod/resource pack on the moderators can and probably will reject your run for using a mod or resource pack.
