  • Hi,
    This is a video about an issue I have discovered since owning the 3 Piece Luggage System for the Can-AM Ryker 900 ACE. I still enjoy the utility of the saddlebags, but tune into my video to discover the issue. Please consider subscribing too. I would greatly appreciate it. Thank You.

    Very good video explaining the problem, which many are having. The Ryker is really a single person ride. It wasnt designed to carry passengers and cargo, without at least a shock/suspension upgrade, that should tell people something. Don't believe the salesman, he'll say anything to get your deposit on a unit. On one of the forums, someone even asked about towing a trailer with the Ryker, give me a break. The Ryker is more compact, lower, lighter, faster, and more agile and maneuverable than the Spyders. Therefor it had to trade off some of the heavier duty abilities that the Spyders have, to achieve its sportyness and handling characteristics that it has. All of which makes it such a fun machine. If people want to ride two up often, and or carry luggage while riding two up, or doing long distance touring, the Spyder is a much better and more suited machine for those duties. Lets face it, Americans are known as the fattest people in the world now. The 900 has a limit of 449 lbs, and the Rally edition I believe a little less. Add some luggage for solo (single rider) touring and you're good. Two people and some luggage, not so good without putting some money into upgrades and modifications.

      So True. If my 13 year old desires to ride with me more often, I will definitely upgrade the shocks. If she's not interested, I'll keep the existing shocks.

    The rally shock still not going to cut it. I had the same issue and the only thing that either is replacing the rear shock with ELKA shock. Call them and they will custom fabricate to your weight, passenger weight , and riding style. You can have a mechanic or dealer install for you. I installed myself but was a pain to do it. Check out also bill ramsyer channel he has an install video. The additional length of the rear makes it a longer “lever” and changes the fulcrum a bit so you will bottom out . Install that ELKA shock snd you will be good to go! But it’s a shame slingmods does not warn you because many people are having the same issue!

    The only real solution is a longer shock or a rear lift which simply adds a few inches to the top shock mount. People have made their own but I'm hoping someone puts one on the market asap.

    I have a 2020 Ryker Rally edition and have my spring nut adjusted as far as it will go. Plus shock set on 4...I also have a slingmods rack with givi 47 liter case. An I still bottom out on some bumps/dips
    I am looking to upgrade grade the rear shock to a Stage 4 or 5 Elka shock... They have a capacity of 485-500lbs and better travel to prevent bottoming out.

    • @joncherokee
      @joncherokee 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I will add that I weigh 279 pounds, the slingmods rack and case add 30lbs.. Problem is that 1" square steel support tube for rack (same as your rack) takes away from rear distance to fender. It just sucks.

    • @CeeDeeLight
      @CeeDeeLight  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes that square steel support is the problem. Please let me know if do upgrade to a Stage 4 or 5 Elka and if it works for your Rally.

    Just to give you an idea of suspension setup I have M2 shocks on my F3s Daytona Spyder. My rear shock is setup to only lower 1" with me once I sit on the seat. Can Am missed the mark on spring setup on these bykes. You could get what you want from a higher rated spring from a company like HyperCo or Eibach and add it to your stock shot. M2 makes a shock for the ryker as well, but with covid there may be delays.

    It's possible you need a more progressive Spring. That would be the 1st thing that I do and the cheapest before looking into a new shock...manufactures should make different Springs with different spring rates for their bikes but they usually ship them with what they consider be the average. Call the manufacturer and see if they have more progressive springs for their bikes.

      @@CeeDeeLight I’m NOT a mechanic so I had the dealership do it and even they said they struggled. Elka had (prob still does) a major backlog so it took me over 10 weeks just to get it after I ordered it directly from them.

    @oldmanjima.k.a.oldfahrt6572 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Good info for the situation on two-up. If the rear shock is maxed out for tension, you may have to consider the shock that comes on the Rally. That shock is expensive in my opinion but it’s better for adjusting tension.

  • @greygow5984
    @greygow5984 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I asked the dealer about the 2up spring but they couldn’t give me a straight answer if the spring would work and I didn’t want to spend on the spring and install to only find out it doesn’t work so I went with Elka. The rally spring is more expensive than Elka and isn’t as good so Elka is the way to go from what everyone tells me.

  • @donaldgerhart517
    @donaldgerhart517 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    You need to get the 2UP spring, which provides more lift and carrying capacity than the standard spring at maximum adjustment.

    I have a similar problem with 2up weight bottoming out the seat and damaging my fender. I’ve ordered an Elka stage 3 rear shock for my Ryker. They custom make it for you or your weight specifications. I can’t officially confirm that fixed the problem because I’m waiting to receive my shock. It’s like a 2 month waiting period and I should be receiving it any day now and will be happy to confirm if that stopped the bottoming out.

      @@CeeDeeLight Hi! Yes, I received my shock toward the beginning of November, but one thing has lead to another and I haven’t gotten around to installing it. I definitely plan to install it this month. And will let you know the results. I can say the shock has a great quality look and finish and the manufacturer assured me it will resolve my problem, but I do need to see it work with my own eyes before I can confirm. The shock actually looks different than the photos. When I ordered I expected the adjustment container to be attacked to the shock but i was pleasantly surprised to see that it comes like the stage 4/5 or rally shock with the container separate connected by the small hose. I will definitely message you once I install. I can send you photos/video if you’re curious and want to see the product.

    449lb weight limit with both riders and gear

    • @CeeDeeLight
      @CeeDeeLight  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes-agreed. My daughter and I don't exceed that weight limit. Part of the issue was the bar for the aftermarket saddle bags. It's about a 1'inch square diameter and that was hitting the fender when we ride. Sometimes if I rode by myself and hit a bump in the road, it would still hit the fender with the stock shock. It's not an issue now with the Elka Stage 4 rear shock installed. Also, the ride is so much smoother.
