    This series of tutorials is about the creation of a low poly scenario that I created for a game, the scenario is called Lost In The Sea.
    And I'm going to use it to explain you what you need to create a low poly scenario, like world settings, light, geometry, materials, etc.
    This tutorials will teach you how to create a scenario in Blender, ready for videogames, and bring it to life.
    Enjoy and feel free to ask any questions you may have, i'll answer as quickly as possible. And don't forget to like and subscribe. Thank you!

    Just a few tips.
    -Shape keys when imported to Unity, they can't have modifiers (only the armature modifier). I recommend applying the modifiers and then create the shape keys.
    -For anyone who wants to import animations to Unity, Unity doesn't "detect" when there's two objects using one armature. I recommend merging everything into one object, and then create the armature.
    Thanks, have fun!

      Hi. Thank you for the tutorial. I am having some problems though.
      I am trying to create a cube in blender that have two animations, say rotate and translate.
      This is my procedure:
      Create cube.
      Add keyframe on location.
      Move cube and add another keyframe.
      I name the animation and press the F button. Then I press the + button to make a new animation for rotation.
      I can select the different animations in blender and they will animate properly.Then I save the file as an .blender file and go to unity. This is where my problems start.
      First off I only get one animation, called Default Take, this is the animation currently selected in blender. Why? Where the other animation.
      And my other problem is when I run the game with the selected animation the object becomes invisible. I have tried both the legacy mode and the generic mode in the import setting.
      Appreciate all the help I can get
      BR Pontus

      Hi Pontus,
      In this tutorial I explain how you can add more animations in unity:

      I hope it helps.

      Ty for reply.Apparently, I can only make the animations work if I have an armature. I do not know if this is an error on my behalf or if it is an limitation in Unity.

      @GabrielAguiarProd  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You can always use shape keys in Blender and then in Unity animate the shape keys. It's quite useful for simple geometry deformation.

      Oh ok thanks. I will look into that some more. Although I find it quite confusing, guess it's just a barrier to overcome. I'll keep on trying and reading documentation.
      Thanks again.

    I was having problems with importing files just as FBX's, as I have a few animations on each character, it always seems like Unity would just read the movements of them but always use the Idle animation as a base for each of them. By doing it this way it seems that Unity is able to differentiate the animations I have made so I can actually use them, thanks so much for this tutorial.

    I couldn't get multiple animations to show up in unity's import settings, and I've found people on the unity forums saying some blender update broke this feature in unity for .blend files. The workaround now is to export to .fbx and make sure "Bake Animation > All Actions" is checked in the export settings.

  • @professorm4171

    FBX is smaller in file size and loads faster into memory since it's a binary file. It's good for mobile optimization.

    For Blender in 2020 Cntrl + Shift + Alt + C shortcut doesn't exist. Instead, while in Object Mode on the top left you have 4 buttons (respectively) press the "Object" button and in that drop down there's "Set Origin" and select "Origin to 3D cursor" as he did
    Also DO NOT apply your armature modifier, this cause the mesh to stop animating
    Also IF YOU TEXTURE PAINTED your model than you need to export your painted textures as .png in the UV Editor on the top press "Image" and export, and import that into your Unity project aswell, extract the materials from the imported model and set the materials Base map to your exported texture painting
    Hope this saves you guys some hair because I almost ripped mine out...

      Hi thanks, what do you mean by apply unity particles? You have particles made in Unity?

    • @MutambaBrazil
      @MutambaBrazil 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Gabriel Aguiar Prod. Yeah. If i need to animate again on unity and put particles. Or if i can use an blender animation and make some particles on unity with that animation.

    • @GabrielAguiarProd
      @GabrielAguiarProd  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Particles made in Blender can't be exported to Unity (they can with .obj, but it's a very painful process). But, yes, if you are making particles in Unity, you can use them in an animation made in Blender. Imagine you have a character that has an hand on fire. You can make the character in Blender and then in Unity create a particle system that simulates his hand on fire with the particle system attached to the character's hand. I hope it helped =)

      Assuming you animated the ocean with shape keys in Blender, now, in Unity if you drop your object to the scene, in the inspector under the Skinned Mesh Renderer you have BlendShapes.

  • @JohnWillimann
    @JohnWillimann 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hiya nice tut. You say that a .blend file is better to import than than an .fbx. Why? I can understand that it's faster and better when you update the blend file with new animations and such but for some reason I thought(and I might be mistaken) that a .blend file would be taking more memory on the final Unity build. Any ideas?

    • @GabrielAguiarProd
      @GabrielAguiarProd  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi John, thanks! Unity can import Blender files because, behind the scenes, it's using the Blender FBX exporter. Which means, in theory, it's importing FBX files to Unity directy from the .blend file. And I believe the the final build will only contain the fbx files that are being used.

    • @GabrielAguiarProd
      @GabrielAguiarProd  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can still import your blend file to unity and unity will identify each character and their respective armature with their respective animations. Or, you can also create two blender files for you respective characters, and do the same process as explained in the tutorial. Or, you can export via FBX only what you have selected, which means you can export your characters separately.

    Nice tutorial man, but can you do a video or just explain to me something ? Here is the problem I have : So since I am the programmer and another guy is making the animations in blender, how he is suppose to send me the animations files ? Lets say he makes one animation today and another one after a week, I don't want to import the whole mesh once again, I just need the animation, so instead of sending me the whole (.FBX) with the mesh and everything, how can he just send me the bone animation so I can apply it to our character in Unity ?

    • @GabrielAguiarProd
      @GabrielAguiarProd  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi thanks! If you want to keep working with fbx files, your animator when exporting can choose to export Animations only (where it says"Main" "Geometries" "Armatures" "Animations") and rename this new fbx file to something like "YourCharactersName_Animations".fbx. And now everytime he makes a new animation he updates the "YourCharactersName_Animations".fbx file. This is a solution in case you don't want to replace the existing fbx file you have in Unity.
      I recommend, if you are able, to work with .blend files, this way you don't need to export anything, because everytime, he or you, make any change in blender, and save it, it will automatically update in Unity (but always keep a backup file).

    • @shindao6
      @shindao6 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Okay thanks for the answer man, the thing is that he animates the character that has a humanoid rig, but I have a different character and use the mecanim system in unity to map the bones into my character. I guess the process will be the same, he just has to export Animations only, right?

    • @GabrielAguiarProd
      @GabrielAguiarProd  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmm I see. Theoretically it should work, but the armature has to be the same (no more, or less bones, or even different names). And since mecanim has access to all animations your unity project contains, it should work, yes.

      That is what we are using, so it will ignore the bones on our humanoid in unity and use the bones from the blender humanoid or the other way around ?

    Does it cost any money to import models and animations to Unity?

      Hi Fábio. Thank you!
      Well the reason is simple: unfortunately we can't export Blender particles to Unity.

      Oh my god! I did a planet with lot of trees.

      In that case (it will probably be very heavy) but you can convert particles to mesh. Or you can create a prefab of the tree and repopulate the planet in Unity (which is the most recommend way).

      Thanks for the tip Gabriel. I'm new on Blender and Unity as you can see. If you have some tutorial how to do it on Unity I'll appreciate. Thank you!

    for some reason my character export from blender to unity is fine in 2 of my animations however in the last one he is bending his back and its stiff, whats going on there?

    Hello I have been trying to figure out what's with my blender unity workflow for hours now. Perhaps you have seen this before: imgur.com/3yQohDt
    Left side is a fbx imported to unity. right side is how it looks in blender
    The problem is created by the rig/vertex weights - if I export without a rig, the problem doesn't happen, also the mesh is fine.
    Thanks for any help : )
