Your welcome. Thanks for watching. If you're interested in making one my website has a free tutorial for the soap cutter project. wrkshop71.com/project-tutorials/making-a-soap-cutter/
And yet I just spent a week making a simple one that uses fishing line tied to a washer that is fitted into measured slots and this man makes this in one day! Thanks for the video. Learned a lot.
It took me more than a day. But I guess if you had all the materials at hand and everything worked out on paper or in your head you could do it in a day.
Hi, Shipping to India from northern Europe would be expensive because the cutter is quite heavy. I can make the cutter for €300 Eur plus shipping which I estimate would be another €300 or possibly more. My website has a free tutorial on how to make the cutter. wrkshop71.com
Hi Heather, I am currently building a website. On the website will be instructions and plans on how to build the soap cutter and other projects. The soap cutter tutorial will be free to access.
I have not seen a soap cutter with steel blades they all seem to use wires. Perhaps this is because blades create too much friction because the soap is somewhat soft a wire cuts through easier. But I am not a soap expert. Usually heavy gauge steel guitar strings work well. The strings you see in this video were too light. They have been replaced with heavier or thicker guitar strings.
Hi Scottie, Some of the measurements I remember but I need to visit the customer and take some measurements so I can post a full list of materials as I didnt make any plans before I started the project. The ball bearing draw slides are 700mm full extension slides. The cutter is designed to cut 600 x 400mm soap blocks into 5 logs. The laminated plywood(brown) is 18mm laminated birch plywood. The thinner plywood is 15mm. The guitar strings are steel guitar strings PLO16 or you can use PLO18 which are 0.45mm dismeter. The winders are electric guitar tuners.
Hi Gilad, The wires are plain steel electric guitar strings PL016 or you can use PL018 that is 0.016 inches or 0.018 inch diameter. Which corresponds to 0.41mm or 0.45mm . Most musical instrument shops will stock these guitar strings or you can try amazon or ebay etc. I will post in the comments a materials list.
Hi, If you are located in Europe it is possible. But if you are outside Europe the freight for such an item would be too expensive. It would be cheaper for you to find someone locally that can make one for you. Soon my website will be up and detailed instructions on how to build one of these will be available.
Hi Daphne, The materials list with measurements is now in the video description. Also I am building a website which will have instructions and plans available.

Hi Jake, I'm not a professional I would say my skills are average for someone with a few tools they use in their spare time. When you see every step it seems complicated but nearly everything is screwed together there are no special joints etc. So I think its a fairly simple design for what it does. Of course if you need a soap cutter like this one I made in a hurry you can buy them for about $400 USD. But those designs do not use metal draw slides.
18-minute demonstration of your wood working abilities. Nice soap cutter.
This is fantastic! That you for sharing and making this video!

Hi are you located in the UK ?
No, I live in Latvia
What kind of wood did you use for it?
Birch plywood. The plain plywood is 15mm thickness and the laminated(brown) plywood is 18mm thick.
Instead of using Guitar strings can we use Steel blades please give your suggestion I have used wire cut string but it is breaking very frequently
