I just finished installing and dialing this carb in on my son's Klx140 along with the 12 tooth front sprocket and an upgraded clutch. It's like a completely different bike! Next is exhaust and kx100 forks. This will be a trail demon
Thank you, I am doing the same kit on a stock KLX 140L, watching you video helped me, I had the jet needle installed incorrectly. I had the ering above the spring plate rather than below. The engine kept dying after 1/4 throttle.
I just installed that exact carb kit on my 140...you can just get to the choke to pull it out but you will not get it back in as it is right behind the petcock....
Yes, it is tricky. Me an my son have learned to wedge our fingertip between the petcock and choke to get it started. Just use your finger as a wedge to get it started back in.
Okay cool. I saw a few other videos and will give that a shot tomorrow. Shouldn’t be too bad. Otherwise mine ran quite well and really woke up the 140. Excited to ride it.
Hey can I ask what elevation you are at? The reason is I’m at 866ft above sea level and I used the 155 size Jet and it still ran to rich and so I went to the smallest they sent me which was a 140 and it was still to rich I messed with the air/fuel screw still was to rich so just seeing what you would recommend I try for the next size?
Hey There. so I am at 778' above sea level. If you are running stock bore I would say the pilot 22.5 is where the richness is coming from. TBparts has a pilot kit so I would try that starting with 17 - 18. I am running a big bore with larger valves and performance cam and mine is still rich with the 22.5. I am around 3 or more turns out on the air screw. I would say raising the needle clip and 3 turns out might help without the pilot kit.
@@Simster8920 Pull the float bowl and it is a small jet next to the main jet in the center. If you pull off the top cap and loosen the tube clamps. You should be able to rotate the carb over and access without having to pull it out.
Aw man that sucks, that the head is stripped I have a FMF slip on. Would you recommend I do a 150 jet too? I got the kit ordered but I’m confused on what jets I should use, and id love to get a big bore kit video!
Yeap it sucks. Threads got into the cylinder so had to tear down either way. I would start with the 140 and see what the plug looks like, 150 was really black. Black too rich, you want chocolate brown. I am in process of the big bore install. Had to order custom flywheel puller.
@@SwareInGa ahhh i see, did you have to mess with the pilot jet at all or just the main and depending on my spark plug is how I should determine my jet so let’s say my spark plug is is black would I go up in jets or down but let’s say if my spark plug was lighter than brown would I go up or would I go down? And I’ve seen some other videos where people run the stock main jet that comes to the carb and they say it runs great but I honestly have no clue carbs confuse me. 😅
@@quinn3722 Yes dark means rich so go smaller. Carb comes with 190 which is pretty large. Running rich is not a bad thing other than carbon build up. But, lean is bad for the motor. Everyone states stock pilot is fine.
I did the swap with a stock 140, it has a lot more power than before but, when I quickly rev the throttle from idle, it dies. I put a 140 main jet in. Do you have any suggestions?
@@SwareInGa I put a 180 jet and a 27.5 pilot jet and it helped a little, but the throttle still bogs from a quick W.O.T., so i don't know what else i have to do. The spark plug looks brownish(no excess of black or white), and the engine runs very well top end, but a quick snap of the throttle completely kills the engine as if a kill switch were hit.
@@DONATHAN-cleanmusic might need to lean the air screw. Also try going up one notch on the needle. I’m still struggling with mine but 60psi could be my problem

Yes they are. This is my son's and with the complete 170 SXparts top end it will fly.

Absolutely, I have seen some post stating to put it on top. This is totally wrong and seems vindictive.

@@SwareInGa great idea - I will try that
Just did the same swap today. I’m having an issue with the fuel line being pinched by the tank due to the new routing. How did you solve that issue?
I used a longer line and looped around. Did not get to test much but once I get a gasket I can put the bike back together and test.

I have that issue when the airscrew is too far in. The carb seems to run really rich. Try 2.5 or more out on the airscrew to lean it out and see.
So my build seems to like a 20 pilot around 1.5 on the air screw, but I am running 170cc with ported head and oversized valves.
