    The particles are mica (made from rock minerals usually) You can purchase mic powder and make your own iridescent watercolours too 🙂

      Yes, I saw it said mica on their website as well! Could be a fun experiment (:

    At 9:48 mins he zooms in on the paint going over black and it shows how the paint gets absorbed. Brilliant.
    I am _STILL_ amazed at what precious knowledge is available on the internet.
    Would you paint if you had to grind your own pigments?…

    I have the autumn mystery, artic fire and moonglow in my cart. Just by chance I found that you have tested it. I think it would transition beautifully between a cooler artic fire for a sunrise then the autumn color to burnt sienna. Actually that is my plan for a beautiful sunrise coming up through the greenery and focusing on some pandas. It looks so beautiful. Thanku. Awesome glaze!! That sunlight sheen on leaves would be pretty also. As you can see I can hardly wait for my order. I have used mica powder but they include basically gall juice or something that lets it spread so nice. My mica blends stayed only where I placed them. Thank you.

    Terrific video, Liron! Thank you for covering this topic, as I had no idea DS offered these kinds of effects paints. Personally, I would have no use for them, but I'm glad you mentioned fish scales and feathers, as I'm sure lots of folks would find that useful. Cheers!

      Thank you! (:
      Haha yes - it's an interesting challenge to find the right subject for these. But when it works, they canreally improve the result.
      Great work on your channel by the way! (;

      Hi again, Liron! I bought three of the Prima Marketing WC sets, one of which is Decadent Pies which has metallic colors in it. I tried to love them, but I just found I had no use for them, so I ended up yanking them out and they now sit in a box of unused paints. lol! Thank you so much for the comment about my channel... I'm learning and watching folks like yourself are helping me a LOT! Cheers!

    • @LironYan
      @LironYan  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Haha what other sets did you get? And did you like them?
      The tropical ones look awesome. I may try them soon!

    • @MDCampbell
      @MDCampbell 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I got thee sets: Decadent Pies, Classics, and Tropicals. I adore them, though I don't recommend them for wall hanging art as many colors are not lightfast and there is no pigment info on any of them. I did a video on watercolor sets and showcase how I removed all the pans and put them into one set in an awesome 1950's Chesterfield metal cigarette tin I got on eBay for just a few dollars. Cheers! :)

    Thank you for the review. I wish there was a way to make that myself. I want to start experimenting with pigments and paintmaking. I would love to even create my own pigments maybe. Might see what is available in the area and I do have a large rock collection from texas limestone so maybe I can get some pigment from that, I feel like they were quite brittle if memory serves.... and I have a huge stone mortar and pestle 😁 get so excited when looking at paints. Again thanks for the review, I think I'm going to have to try this paint, there's just something about it

    The glazes made it look like the paint was filled with living organisms :o

      @ColleenM61 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Lol, that was my thoughts as well.

    • @LironYan
      @LironYan  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Haha yes, luckily it isn't =P
      But it definitely reminds me of those mini shiny ecosystems in glass containers.

    • @TheMudcrabsDen
      @TheMudcrabsDen 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Your watercolour palette _could_ grow some living organisms if you don't let it dry in a proper manner, but painting with mold wouldn't leave the same effect on the paper...

    Thanks for the video! I'm very curious how people work with the duochrome and interference paints. An iridescent watercolor medium will give you that pearlescent effect with any paint color. I have Daniel Smith's Iridescent Copper and Gold that I use in greeting card paintings for friends. At tube strength you can get an opaque, shiny, metallic finish.

    • @LironYan
      @LironYan  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I suppose everyone uses them differently (:
      I use them sparingly, and usually just to add some final touches and details.

    There is a shimmer half pan in Decadent Pies that is very very similar if not exactly the same color. It is very hard to activate though. You mention even from the tube it is not very fluid...hmmm. It's a gorgeous color. I am at a loss for what to do with it excepting mixing a very small amount into another color to add some luminance and a very slight granulation. Very interesting indeed. Thanks!

    • @LironYan
      @LironYan  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes - it's interesting but requires some thought (:
      And I found it a challenge to get it to easily mix with water (and we are talking straight out of the tube).
      I can already see how hard it would be to re-wet once it dries on the palette haha.

    Wow, that´s a beautiul paint. Now you just need to find something to use it with:) In the end where you really can see the shine of it, it reminds me of a vail or spiderweb...

      Yes, I can already picture quite a few uses for it, no worries (;

      @LironYan  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Fantastic idea, will experiment with that.
      I'm also wondering how it would work when blended (perhaps only in the edges) with another color.
      Will have to further explore (;

    I really love The Paint Show. Of course, you know that I use Daniel Smith watercolors. As you know, they are artist quality paints. I do not believe Daniel Smith makes student paints. At least, I have never seen any on the web site.
    Some time ago, I purchased a set of Daniel Smith's luminescent watercolors. I have some of their duochrome colors and some of their iridescent colors. Autumn Mystery is not one of the colors that I have. I wonder if it is a limited edition color?

    • @LironYan
      @LironYan  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes - it's very interesting actually.
      It's the only page I saw that's unavailable of all of their luminescent series. I wonder the same thing too.
      That being said, I did find the paint for sale on Amazon, from an official seller. So who knows? (:

    I'm very excited! You have convinced me to get myself some Schmincke watercolors! It's arriving today and I can't wait. My studio area will be finished today (just in time) Wooo Hooo! Thanks for all that you do! I'm just learning and you are a GREAT help! Also, I'm trying to find a link to your beginner drawing course, I know I have seen it before?!?!? (:

      Happy you found it! (:
      You can also use credit card, you need to click the "create account" button (and it won't make you create one, but will give you the credit option. I dislike the Paypal payment solution, will hopefully improve the purchase process in the near future).
      And thank you so much, I'm sure you'll love the Schminckes. It's definitely my favorite at the moment (:

    I just found your videos. I like your honesty. Also, you have a wonderful accent. I live in Texas, so her southern all the time:). Do you have a favorite paint brush. It looks like you are using the silver black velvet. I have a few of those and love them. Great channel. Thank you for sharing your art talents. I'm thinking of signing up for your drawing class.

    • @LironYan
      @LironYan  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh thank you so much (:
      It gradually improves with these videos, but I think spending more time with native speakers will help polish it at some point.
      Regarding brushes, yes - obviously I love the Silver Black Velvet.
      I also have a Raphael mop that I really love. It doesn't really have a point, and I find it's helpful for loosening up and not worrying too much about making perfect shapes.
      And thanks for considering the course, will be happy to have you on board (:

    Hey Liron!
    Which basic color set do you recommend to buy in israel for beginners?

    • @LironYan
      @LironYan  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey! (:
      Here we go haha..
      *Cheap, common and decent quality option:*
      I started with the Van Gogh. They are student grade, but relatively good as long as you use good paper. I think you can find them in most large art stores (and sometimes even in office supply stores).
      *A little more expensive but much better quality:*
      Alternatively, you can order Daniel Smith's primary set from Amazon. It's a little more expensive (higher quality + delivery), but you get three large 15ml tubes, and having a limited palette can help keep things clean when starting out. And again - the quality is much better
      *Medium price and good quality:*
      One last option would be Winsor & Newton (the artist grade, or the student line called "Cotman"). You can find these in large art stores as well (Arta in TLV has both).
      I hope this helps (:

    I have some paintings I want to do for a few family members and I think I know what paints I want to use in them now! This particular paint is just so beautiful and gorgeous, you really captured the shimmering effect near the end! I can totally see it as a hint of blush on a cheek or a glowing sunset! Thanks for making this video! :D

      @LironYan  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you so much 😊 Really happy you enjoyed this particular one and have a use for it!
      There are so many paints out there, I really try to choose ones that stand out for me in some way, or that may be extra useful to others.

    I have fuschite, which is unreasonably sparkly…I thought I’d like it but yikes, it’s overwhelming …that’s the only watercolor I have that has anything like this…I have a bunch of acrylic I’ve bought in the last 20 years that are interference or metallic colors…also, not my jam unless I’m doing gold dragon claws…

    • @Kyomiibrown
      @Kyomiibrown 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Celtic Bear Daniel Smith is professional, it is used by many watercolourists and is thought to be amongst the best - for many it is number 1, and definitely in the top 5 overall.

      Kyomii I like winsor and newton pro watercolor and schmincke,

    • @Kyomiibrown
      @Kyomiibrown 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Celtic Bear Me too, though DS has a far better colour range and their lightfast ratings are generally better. The one Leon is using is from their iridescent range - you can buy standard colours without the iridescence. Daniel Smith normal watercolour is very, very pigmented. It's a bit of a learning curve using it if you are used to Winsor and Newton. I have the full DS dotcards - it is a good paint.

    • @TerrieJohnson731
      @TerrieJohnson731 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would buy Schmincke over D.S. I have seen many paintings all over TH-cam. Schmincke paints are fabulous to my eyes. I am using good student grade. Van Gogh, Shinhan. I mostly journal, I dont worry about lightfastness like some people do. It's become a big marketing ploy. Put the masterpiece out in the sun and test your paint, right?
