    Derek couldn’t have found a better person to help him with his car on that long journey. The quality of replacement parts these days is appalling, which is ironic considering the simplicity of design. Ignition parts such as condensers, points and spark plugs are some of the really well known offenders.
    I love that care pack you put together for him at the end. Talk about a great gift!!

      Paul,I already have a car in mind to save. Been sitting in a dry California garage for 30+ years. 90% intact. Was bought as a street rod project(*shudder*)that never got off the ground. If it was just a body and some frame rails it wouldn't bother me. But when something has made it this long and is almost completely intact I believe it should be restored,not cut up. I'll be seeing the owner this weekend and going to discuss its possible sale.

    Paul, another great video. Great explanation on on the condensers. ~60+ years ago in high school auto shop we learned how to test condensers. Another quick way the teacher showed us using a cheapy ohm meter is to connect the meter leads one way (+, -) and then switch them (-, +) and watch the needle move. If no movement, bad condenser. Of course, as young degens we quickly found out how much fun it was to "charge" a condenser, then hand it to someone. Haha. Have a great day and stay cool.

    This is a good distributor rebuilding video. Supposing if the ignition were converted to 12 volt electronic, you'd be surprised how much more pep that flathead 4 engine would have.

    • @ModelA
      @ModelA  ปีที่แล้ว

      It wouldn't make any difference. The spark would still be exactly the same because for 12 volts, you have to run a resistor in series with the coil primary.
