    My highschool wasn't in america and so I was an art major during it. I remember hating all those basic drawing classes where my works would be all about still life, perpesctive, shapes, contrast (contrast was my nightmare xD). It was so boring, I wanted to do cool stuff. Then, in my junior year, I could finally understand the importance of those basic classes 'cause they helped my art improving so, so, SO MUCH when it came the time to do the cool stuff, it was insane. I was the stupid kid that thought "Oh, I know how to draw beautiful characters, I don't need to know how to draw an apple" NO, I NEDED TO KNOW HOW TO DRAW AN APPLE! xD But basically, you said it all. Now let me draw some pieces of paper on the floor xD

    This video made me terrified and motivated all at once. I'm self taught and just got into the fundamentals of art such as shading, perspective, as well as trying out new art mediums and I'm moving to the 11th grade. This video me realized that I need to start learning the fundamentals and start doing the things in art that I never tried such as watercolors or painting and get out of my comfort zone of just sketching and doodling all the time.
    Thank for this gr8 video, I really took your words to heart!

    I thank you for this video. Love hearing your story of art school experience. Rather than discourage me, I think I feel more interest to go to art school. Imagine strengthening your fundamental and basic skills. It so hard to do it yourself because you always giving excuses and start doing all the fun stuff only.

      Omg thank you!! I'm so glad you found this encouraging, I was mad worried while editing that everyone was gonna panic about art school O-O;;;; You totally have the right attitude about practice and that'd gonna get you far. Keep doing the fun stuff on the side and soon you'll see all the hard work pay off! >:D

    I’m only in 7th grade and I’m 13. When my teachers and family ask me what my ideas are for collage, I’ve always said art school. I really didn’t understand what art school really was until I came across this video.
    I’ve been worrying about art school since I was 11, and even though I’m not even close to going, I was worried because I really wanted to pursue my dream of being an artist, and feared that if I couldn’t draw like art TH-camrs now, I wouldn’t be able to draw in senior year, and wouldn’t be accepted, or even worse, fail art school. After watching this, I realized that even as an art student in collage you are still learning and growing and you will never stop doing that of learning. Thank you so much for this.

    This was really interesting! I'm just taking art classes at a community college, and I feel like so far I haven't really learned anything. The only basics we really did in Drawing I was cylinders and cubes and things like that. Otherwise, we pretty much just learned new mediums and stuff. Not that learning new mediums wasn't helpful, because it was, but we definitely didn't have to draw any of the basic things that I thought we were going to draw. I'm kinda worried that I'm not as prepared as other artists will be if I decide to go into art when I transfer.

    i just finished my freshman year at MICA and im so glad there was such a diversity of classes they made us take, im an animation major and i got to take a fibers class to learn weaving, sewing, knitting etc and now im really excited to apply those skills to animation! socially it was tough for me because i feel like after the first week, everyone already has their friend groups and people arent so willing to make friends with you after that :'( i also think that because art schools are usually so small, they tend to have the same clique-y system like highschools (at least my college is like that)

      The clique-ness is real, I'm just lucky that my school was large enough for that not to happen quite as fast as yours! And I'm so glad you got to take a fibers class!!! God, every time I see what the fibers majors are doing at my school I'm always like D; why can't I be that cool??

    I just went for day 3 of oientation in art school and I'm gonna officially start studying in exactly a week. I watched this video to find out the truth of what it's really like and to be honest it sounds better than I thought... I've been drawing for 3 years yet I don't know the basics and I want to strengthen my basics. Maybe in 4 years when I graduate (hopefully) my style would still be the same but it'll be an awesomer upgraded version of it. I can't wait for anatomy classes bcas I so badly want to be able to draw nice DC type comic style and I'll need to learn the very basics of the human body. I know that would probably be the most challenging class for me though lol. Anyways my ig is @ndnelena if you wanna see my drawing and understand what I mean... Thank you so much for being honest. You've motivated me.

    Hi!! I'm new to your channel, and loving everything I've watched so far! I'm 23 and have been working office jobs since graduating high school and now going to back to school. Currently at community college working on general education cause I don't know what I want to study (so math, English, social science, so on). I think I've decided I want to major in art (unsure what exactly) but I haven't indulged creativity since early in high school and I don't feel like I have the talent you mention that most people go into art school with... Since freshman year is learning about the basics do you think I can suceed with not having much artistic experience, but the passion to grow? I really want to get back into art and truly art is the only thing I can see myself bring passionate about and having fun whilst in university. Hope to hear your response! And if you made a video about this I'm sorry! Still exploring your channel! Thank you for being a creator here

    What’s an alternative to art school for sine I’ve like me whose a senior. I have sold lots of art that shows I have not been to art school. I’d like to learn the basics extremely well. You mentioned some including perspective, color theory, human figure, shading, lighting. What are all the basics and do you have a video on the best way to learn these well. It would be so cool to have exercised.

    i wonder what the stress would be like to me, because i’m not neurotypical in the slightest (assuming you are), to the point that basic high school got too stressful and i had to stop for awhile. i’ve wanted to go to art school for as long as i’ve thought seriously about a career, but with this major setback i’m not so sure

    what’s it like as a freshman in highschool taking art?

    • @BianaBova
      @BianaBova  6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Literally nothing to worry about. Unless you're going to a fancy high school that specializes in art (in which case I can't actually give you any advice there) your high school art classes are just an ultra watered down version of a college curriculum. At my high school, freshman and sophomore year were heavy on the fundamentals while junior and senior year were 100% fun creative stuff. The bar is mad low in high school, so don't sweat the classes and just focus on your own growth!

    • @amtra1778
      @amtra1778 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I took intro art in high school during summer break but it had all the fundamentals; line, shape, value, hue, form, color wheel, color studies and mixing, geometrics, perspective, shading, facial anatomy, pencil, charcoal, acrylic, watercolor, etc. There was also Studio/Advanced art for making portfolio pieces (breadth and concentration) but I didn't take it. In studio art they did 13 big projects by the end of the school year.

    Thank you for this vid! I'm actually starting my first year at animation school but I'm really self conscious because I didn't have art classes in high school, and i didn't start taking them privately until my senior year (i graduated last year) i took a year off to improve on my art but i'm pretty sure most of my classmates have been drawing for 8-5 years unlike myself (2 years)... do you have any advice for me?

    • @BianaBova
      @BianaBova  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Don't sweat it! Your classmates may have been doing art for longer, but that doesn't mean they were practicing smarter or harder. Focus on your own growth and you'll prosper regardless. Also, if your classmates are better? That's even better! You have even more people to ask questions and learn from. It's a win-win! ;D I've got a video planned for later this summer that I think will cover this topic further. Lots of luck, I know you'll be great!

      I can hear my past self screaming in agony rn but honestly? Still lifes. I know they're awful and boring but here me out, they're literally a one-stop shop to learning perspective, color theory, lighting, composition, and proportions. Plus, all the still lifes you do can go straight into the portfolio you'll be needing to get into the college anyway. You can always make them more fun by creating weird set ups (one guy I know suspended toy cars in a fish bowl) or have a theme to the objects you use (I once did a still life of only pink objects). And lucky for you, I'll be uploading a "How To Draw Still Lifes" video very soon! I hope this helps and good luck practicing!!!
