Izzi Bb the problem is that there is a quota for applicants to universities so realistically there’s only so many available slots and theyll go to the “most skilled” artists
half-baked thot yea of course. But the point she’s trying to make is that people are being unreasonably self deprecating. Audrey is crazy good, but I’m sure she practiced more than any of us to get there.

the superb quality of her plaster cast drawing and oil still life has a lot of to do with the fact that she came from China, where art school still put paramount emphasis on technical skills (life drawing and painting). Students who want to go to art school in China would learn how to draw and paint properly (in the classical 19th century French academy style) in studios designed to help students to get into art school.
I don't understand, these students have amazing artworks and they want to apply with them for college, how did they learn to do all of that if they're not at college yet..
It's just so disappointing for me..
practice, motivation and interest. if you like drawing cartoons and you only do them, then its inevitable that you'll only be or be better at cartoons than actual fine art like this (unless ur amazin at everything lol). she seems to have an interest in creating realistic things, different art styles, artists etc lol. idk how america works but in the uk i learnt some of these skills in my 2 years of a level cause i was forced to explore.. and doing my summer project for university/college i just realised i can only paint one style since i was lazy oops xxx
High schools in America offer many electives, also TH-cam teaches you a lot, also internships, and general motivation and a natural desire to create or make your dreams/visions/ideas come to life.
lots of hard work and practice. also she mentioned all the art classes she took at school + the 2 out of school, so she had a lot of guidance too
AP art classes, after school lessons, youtube lessons, hard work , determination.
A big thing sometimes is teachers. I had an awful teacher who only cared about getting things done, so because I took my time, she was always getting on my case and being really rude. Turns out I got the only 5 in the class but she never gave any useful advice. I feel like the other people in my class could have done better if they had a better teacher.

Just keep at it, also have you considered taking art in high school or getting into any middle school programs because if you haven’t you should it’s a great experience
Wake me Up inside yeah i’m in high school art classes but i’m not really learning anything and i don’t feel like i’ve improves at all in the last year from that class

People who show their portfolio act all humble and like ‘i dont mean to brag, i know it isnt that good’ kinda compliment fishing but shes proud of her stuff
Also shes really prettyyy
Artists typically set high standards for themselves, so when something doesn’t turn out how they envisioned (which happens a lot) I wouldnt say they are fishing for compliments
The candy piece/second ctrl+v artwork hit home for me. It makes me think of my identity as a Chinese-American who has lived in New York her whole life and the culture I am so closely tied to yet so distant with. It was nice to see a piece like that, never thought about the two candies like this and what it represents! If I am correct, the white candy is the White Rabbit milk candy, right? :D

HANDS DOWN the best portfolio i have ever seen! I saw a lot of portfolio videos before stumbling across this one, and they weren't nearly as outstanding as this. Truly the best artwork I've ever seen in my life !

Audrey, impressive portfolio! I do love the the glass you painted, and the hands too of the woman, it seems so soft. Very creative idea of "Control, shift" and the Chinese/American candy theme, and the cultural theme mix! I was watching a TH-cam video of a friend and yours just happened to come right behind it. I'm SO late but this is SO amazing. I'm another Chinese-American living in America and your pieces really were interesting. Reminded me of another Chinese American girl at my high school who had a similar concept of the two cultures mixing. She did a self portrait with pointillism. The black and white parts of the painting were what represented her American side, while the colored parts were her Chinese side. The American side included the American clothing and accessories she was wearing, while the Chinese was the pin in her hair and her skin. Very cool to see your pieces!

like pretty much everyone else in the comments, im extremely awed & ever overwhelmed by her talent and skills, but i think im inspired, too. i still have more than three years until i graduate, and although i might never be as good as audrey, id rather see this as enlightenment from a senior artist than jealousy/pressure. the amount of dedication and hard work audrey mustve put into this portfolio is just so amazing and motivating for me. thank you for this video!! your art is srsly amazing and i hope youre doing good at risd :) take care of your health :)

I'm pretty sure she studied IB Art, it is kind of the same as AP but much harder and its a 2 year program. Most of the international school in Asia offer IB program. I did the same IB program, and it offers specialized courses just like Uni first year. The main focus of IB is experiementing with your art style and encourage you to turn the ideas into conceptual, abstract pieces.
I actually never took and IB courses I did take AP art instead :)
IB art does not really focus on getting better at art. We just waste time on making process portfolios and comparative studies. Some people in my class simply suck at art and it pains me to see the teachers trying to be nice when commenting about their "stlye".
IB Art is impossible. Help me.

@@chocolateegg7996 the course is almost over and I still don't have two artists for the CS. One is Mark Ryden and I need another. Looking for a good artist who isn't commonly selected, and I can connect to the themes of perception or the "psychology of self".

This video inspired me to put time into creating an art portfolio for art schools now : ) I was wavering along the edges of computer science and architecture, but looking at your amazing art I felt like if I keep trying, I'll eventually draw ok oneday xD

This was really stunning and also interesting to see, I have viewed a lot of portfolio videos over the time and your portfolio is really well made. I’m going to apply for art-schools soon, but we don’t have as many here in Denmark as you do in the US. I want to study illustration and illustrate children’s books, but we don’t really have any drawing/painting art schools, it’s mostly just art schools which focuses on modern art and so on.
I guess it’s because we are a smaller country Xb
