    I think another common mistake is to capture new city before learning a new technology. This is better done in the opposite order, since city capture increases technology costs

    Another tip is to hold down on the enemy that you are about to attack.
    Two numbers will appear above the attacker(you) and the defender(enemy's troop).
    Those numbers of course mean how much damage each of them takes after you hit them and they retaliate. If you see a skull and dripping sweat that means your attack defeats them or you get defeated after attacking. Generally, dont attack defenders close range until the final hit.
    Also, just an add on. I believe if you pick the recover option for any troop that is within any of your city borders, they heal for 4 but only heal for 2 outside the city borders.

    I played polytopia since it was called super tribes. Anyone who remember? This list is pretty good and covers much common beginner mistakes. One point I have to say is, it's sometimes bad to spend to much stars on Techs in the early game on medium and big maps. Over spending could hinder the expansion and the leveling of new cities.

    • @BS-bd4xo
      @BS-bd4xo 2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      About the last point you said, I still do this sometimes. It's really hard to choose if you should spend a lot on getting that one tech, or if you wanna focus on troups that turn. Sometimes I spend a lot to get like 2 techs, and end up with no turns to summon new troups.

    • @masterboy3077
      @masterboy3077 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@BS-bd4xo Sometimes it's worth it to rush certain technologies, but this is really map depending and on relatively open maps it's often better to go for units. On archipelago a rush to a certain technology could be very important. It also depends on the tribe you are playing, for example Ai-mo where you want to this philosophy early in the game so you can start snowballing together with the temple of peace. In contrast to Ai-mo is Yadakk, as Yadakk it's way more important to spend stars in the early game on units and roads, cuz as Yadakk your strongest weapon is rapid early game expansion. The third group are tribes like Zebasi, they don't need to spend stars on Techs that are for economic growth in the early game, cuz they have farms wich gives two pop. So you can level up more lvl 1cities reliable since you need only one tech wich is farming and only one resource tile wich should be the farm, so they can go for a little bit more expensive expansion, with like riders.

    Chopping forests excessively can also backfire. I usually keep forests around and only chop them if I necessarily need extra stars. If you're playing Bardur, Hoodrick or any tribe with lots of trees, lumber huts will bring you far. Lastly, forests act as speed bump for enemy units

    Sometimes players may want to get border growth as soon as possible and overlook uncaptured villages nearby. Border growthing near a village may steal its natural land and resources, giving the new city a smaller border and fewer resources than it should. I think this lines up with leveling up cities in the right order but it also encourages border growthing cities in the center of your territory to avoid this mistake.

    Ive ben playing this game for 5years now and ive learned from my mistakes (and from gullYY when i asked him for help) but when i just started playing I thought knights where OP because of their chain attack ability. Me and my friends just spammed them and the person with the best economy would win. This is a mistake I see a lot of new players make so my tip would be: knights arent OP so stop spamming them. Theyre easily countered by swordsmen and if your opponent knows you have knight he wont put his units next to each other which also renders them useless.

    • @RedOctober_
      @RedOctober_ 2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      having one at the back of your army doesn't hurt, because then your opponent won't be able to detect it. I think the biggest advantage to knights is when you put them with roads, they have insane movement. This is useful when I'm trying to take out other quickly on perfection because i can bring them from all over my empire to bear on one walled city in one turn

    • @jessehol2721
      @jessehol2721 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I mostly mix knights with swordsmen and sometimes 1 or 2 catapults. Thry are still strong units but glass cannons. You should use them to kill their units while your swordsmen capture the cities

      I start by making as many treaty’s as possible. Then I can focus on only a few at a time. Before ending the treaty. I send as many cloaks behind enemy lines positioned to cause chaos once the fight starts.
      Build up a defense line of giants shields and sword man. Place artillery right behind while leaving gaps in between them so if any knight breaks through it can’t chain attack.
      Have several knights reserved in the back and on the flanks ready to sweep in on premade roads to take advantage of any existing chains. Prep chains of vulnerable enemies with artillery and selective attack before sending a knight in.
      This strategy works great for mostly dry maps. Another note creating a solid wall across your boarder helps keep cloaks from getting behind your lines. Always keep 1-2 swordsman by every city to avoid cloaks taking the city while invisible

    I think the fourth point ( City Wall ) is kinda debated, as in Water World map, the Shield and Swordman would get a lot defense. You would need three battleships to just kill a single of them, and thus it is pretty useful when you're facing against naval superiority ( Enemy dominates the water ). Also not to mention a boat can't deal a damage to a full-health Shield with a city wall.
    This is just an opinion of mine who played a lot in the Water World map. Feel free to commentates my opinion, and I might reply too.

    As a long playing Polytopian, I must advise the early access to meditation and the pacifist monument. As the game progresses, it becomes harder to play 5 turns without attacking. Therefore tribes like Xin-Xi and Ai-Mo should get a head start as they can get it within a turn. Additionally, getting climbing can be a good way to scout out your surroundings in early game.

  • @justeenilingueeni123
    @justeenilingueeni123 2 ปีที่แล้ว +93

    I really think the riding and roads point just wasn't emphasized enough. It really is a must-have tech that you need in just about every situation. Riders should be the bread and butter of your army, and roads are just a must for effective attacking. Without roads, your opponent will have no problem outflanking you and winning a battle of efficiency. Additionally, roads let you get an earlier giant by getting tons of population on your capital.

      @justeenilingueeni123 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      @@miliba kickoo is just fine on both drylands and lakes. Keep in mind they can upgrade their capital on turn 0 so they just simply have an eco advantage compared to those who can't. This, combined with their solid terrain, offsets their need for extra techs in the early game.

    #8 using wrong troops in specific situations. Polytopia is like rock paper scissors. Swordsmen counter knights but die to catapults. Knights counter catapults but die to swordsmen. Catapults counter swordsmen but die to knights. This is a general rule which applies to other troops which are similar to one of these three. Of course there are some exceptions but it mostly works. You have raised alot of valid points. Although I do question hardly getting the city wall tho. It's true, choosing resources definitely helps you expand faster, but what I notice is that when a tribe doesn't have many city walls, it actually makes them a hell lot easier to invade. My guess is that with the resources strategy, you're going for more aggressive gameplay and I'd like to think it really depends on you and your tribes playstyle. However, that advice is still worth noting as again, you have raised strategic points as to picking resources. Just wanted to bring up my point as well.

Therefore, you can have troops beforehand and will be ready for the swordsman

They are such evidently good perks, as they move you toward getting knights once you have the stars of it, roads provide great support to slow units and riders can be a great unit early game, with their 2 movement and decent attack power, as well as dash.

    ROADS CAN BE BUILT ON UNCAPTURED LANDS AS WELL. Great for flanking enemies, reaching ruins quicker, and escape routes.

    Capturing cities is crucial in the beginning, I would argue to make a second unit, otherwise a rider opponent can load up on cities early and just overwhelm you with greater unit count.

    Another useful tip is that you can bump an enemy out of your city by recruiting a giant/dragon/etc there (upgrading to level 5 or higher and choosing super unit).

  • @dashyz3293
    @dashyz3293 ปีที่แล้ว

    1:49 this might have a misconception of "upgrade your big cities first", i think. It should be emphasised to upgrade whichever gives you the most impact. Usually, this would mean levelling a city to level 3, as this is one of the ways to earn stars after your turn has begun, which might net extra possibilities that were not there before.

  • @Mya-Scene

    I think the tip about turn one is a bit more subtle. I agree that the capitol should be upgraded, if there are only one or two edges that you can send a unit to. If you have 3 or 4 traversable edges, you should create a second unit and upgrade on turn 2. This costs you 2 stars, but it is super valuable for finding cities and relics quickly in the early game.

    • @finnshort3806
      @finnshort3806 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No, always get the capital upgraded first turn if you can, this means you get more stars in the long run, and those 2 extra can snowball a long way!

    Yeah I try to capture a city when I can unless I'm focusing on some tech or something else. But having a good army combined with even a few cloaks can do so well.

    i also surround my enemy with ships and usually plan my attacks before declaring war but i conclude that the meditation tech i always get first cause of cheaper tech upgrades i reaserch next is the strategy and the other one so i can declare peace on everyone
    and not attacking immediately i will improve my economy to increase my chances of taking huge upgrades..

    I played polytopia because I was recommended by a friend who wanted additional games, when I asked if there were any mobile legends, he said there weren't any (neither did I) then I answered "we are one team" then he recommended this, after I tried it, at first it was difficult, when he explained , I know, thanks my friend, anyway, he also recommended "that level again" but it's easier to play this wkwk

      1 Get a good navi with giants in battleships. Shields in boats is the cheapest with 15 health.
      2 Costume houses. Expensive to set up, but will give you as much stars as a freaking city! They are essential in late game (and perfection btw).

    • @miliba
      @miliba 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You should keep your army numbers large and steady once you reach late game. It gets easy after you defeat a few tribes and have conquered a corner region because then you can use those freed up units to outflank the remaining tribes

    Getting extra stars or city wall depends on how your opponent plays.
    If your opponent rushes through, it is best to get city wall to buy some time.

    Я играю в Политопию с тех пор, когда в ней был минимум племён, и это видео не оказалось для меня полезным, но я рад, что по этой замечательной игре вообще делают видео. Для меня стала интересна новая, а на самом деле улучшенная механика дипломатии, новые посольства позволяют делать быстрые звёзды и быструю разведку в начале игры для Quetzali, потому в первых ходах можно пренебречь развитием столицы.

    I tend to buy the technolgy that make everything cheaper first ( and you can spawn the preacher( sorry dont know the names ) ) with the preacher i turn for my side the enemys that aproach at the beggining ( more advance units can killme , and even capture a few cities turning the protector units ) and using them at the beggining then upgrading as a priotiry all cities to expand. After i have philosofy everything is cheaper and it costs you 2 or 3 turns at the beggining

    As someone who has put way too many hours on polytopia I can give you what I personally think is the only rule you should follow. If you follow this one simple trick you will rule literally any game. Don't waste stars by participating in wars. Just get the tech to grow trees, burn forests, and make farms. Literally. Like that's all you have to do. Placing farms on every tile of your empire, planning the perfect setup for windmills, adding mines and smithy's where needed, any empty mountains with temples, all coast tiles with ports and any ocean tiles with temples. That's how you min max the stars you get. Farms are the most efficient way to upgrade. I don't go for roads and riders first ever. I go for chivalry cus knights are op ASF, farms, and then the tech to grow forests.

  • @tomo9126
    @tomo9126 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I like setting up two or three cities at level 2 and 2/3. Then the next turn you can upgrade all of them just using two stars and then getting 5 stars each. It's a nice way to generate a huge bank roll in one shot early in the game. It's sometimes difficult to do. It's usually easy to do if you are expanding to an empty corner. You can leave them at 2 and 2/3 until you need the stars.

    • @d.l.7416
      @d.l.7416 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      that has no benefit because you don't lose stars each turn. getting 5 stars now vs later is no different so always upgrade fully for getting stars per turn.

    • @tomo9126
      @tomo9126 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@d.l.7416 It works well to buy tech at cheaper prices. If a surprise invasion shows up you can cash them in and defend/counter-attack.

    • @d.l.7416
      @d.l.7416 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      tech prices are irrelevant, you aren't buying tech its just a choice of upgrade city now, or upgrade it later. If a suprise invasion shows up you can have the stars from levelling up already. you don't lose stars at the end of a turn so there's no reason not to upgrade.
      there are two scenarios:
      upgrade now:
      + gain one star per turn
      + gain 5 stars
      upgrade later:
      - miss out on the stars per turn
      + gain 5 stars
      so you should always upgrade immediately

    For me, shields are S-tier in the early game, they're durable as fuck and can, if speed with archers, prove lethal.
    I also remember one game where I captured a city next to a one block wide river, only to have enemies on the otherside of said river. For 8 turns I repeatedly respawned defenders while selecting city wall for once, it was a tough fight to hold that river while I built a bigger navy to combat enemy boats, it was basically a large rush of endless boats vs 6-8 of battleships on my side: I could easily kill, but I had to select carefully who to shoot
