I am a professional TV producer and I simply have to say, this was EXCELLENT! Slow enough to follow, you used a tripod and your voice over explanation was as detailed as it needed to be without opinion, comment or any of the other mistakes that far inferior DIY videos make. I am not usually a DIY person but the cost of repairing this dishwasher is over half the cost of buying a new one. I don't like the disposable nature of things so I thought I would try to fix this myself. After all, if I fail, I have at least tried and learned. THANK-YOU for a terrific DIY video!!

+iScaper1 I agree as well. Why do we see nothing in the manual about how to clean the insides or that it is actually ever needed? Because the folks at GE want you to either have to call their repairmen to clean it out/fix resulting broken parts, or buy a new machine.

demelza bunny Totally agree about the placement of the filter. Great video. The only thing I couldn’t do was to remove the top tray. I was afraid of breaking the plastic thingy. The design has more to do with quick assembly on the line at the factory, as opposed to the maintenance of the dishwasher. It's the same with cars and trucks. What is sometimes a pain to fix was easier to assemble on the line. It's all about getting the product out the door of the factory in a timely manner for the consumer.

After reading other comments you should seriously consider taking this video and comments to manufacturers for product maintenance. You have a real talent here. This would be a win/ win for manufacturers who could provide simple (not this one, perhaps how to remove pump filter only) maintenance for their products. Customer wins knowing there is instructional video for product routine maintenance, manufacturer wins with increased sales. Videos like this would be great sales tool demonstrating customer support. This was exactly what I needed, thank you! I have no problem taking things apart, but I only like to push/pull/twist so much before I worry I'm going to break something. Your video gave me confidence to take apart and clean my dishwasher. (Parts were a bit stuck with scale build-up.) It is working much better now, though still not 100%.
I will also mention that the part you take off before the circular fine mesh filter has a small washer in it. Mine fell out when I was cleaning it, and I needed a parts diagram to confirm where it went back in. I had seen one in another article about fixing my dishwasher, but it appears they are on the GE website as well. You have to search for your model # under "Filters & Parts," which is different than searching for your model # on the main website (that only gets you the owner's manual and other literature).

Agree this was EXCELLENT!! I had to look all over the in internet to find some assistance - GE was no help whatsoever. The instructions were clear and straightforward without any extraneous narrative. Same with the visuals. I am the mom in our household but I seem to be the one who does all the fixing and this was perfect ( I almost broke the top rack trying to figure it out - lucky I found this video first). I also appreciated the step by step instructions on how to put it all back together This is often overlooked but after disassembling and cleaning all the parts, the exact order of things in reverse sometimes gets a little fuzzy. I am a 60 year old retired home economics teacher. I just read in a magazine that it was important to clean the filter of the dishwasher regularly and October was a good time to do this. I have lived in my home over 6-1/2 years and never had cleaned the filter because the manual that accompanied the dishwasher did not mention anything about cleaning. Although my dishes weren't getting clean for the last couple of years, I just assumed that I needed to replace the dishwasher. After watching your video, I decided to take the challenge and attempt to clean the filter and parts. You articulated so clearly and calmly. In addition, the video was excellent and gave me the needed confidence because it matched my dishwasher interior perfectly. This project has turned out to be an all day event because of the stubborn build up of dishwasher detergent that had calcified on the bottom of the dishwasher under the screen. I needed a video on how to deal with that! I did discover that the poor performance of the dishwasher had nothing to do with the model but the build up of junk in the filter, sprayer holes, etc. Actually I am surprised that the dishwasher even operated. Currently I am running my first load of dishes after completing this project. I am hopeful that I will see a difference in the cleaning. Thank you for providing this video.

Hello and thanks! My dishwasher was making loud noises when pumping out water. I looked in the users documentation and found no information. This video helped me to disassemble, clean, and (importantly) re-assemble the fluidic pathway. The filter was difficult to remove, but well worth it. It was coated in slimy stuff. I agree that neither the dishwasher nor accompanying documentation was not designed with user serviceability in mind.

Excellent video. Fixed my problem of dishwasher not draining. We missed a monthly cycle of running vinegar thru system. My wife commented to me why can't I be as calm as the guy in the video. Lol

    • @johnbecich9540
      @johnbecich9540 7 ปีที่แล้ว

We "clean our dishes twice" and so no food collects in our dw. But the dishwasher detergent precipitates (or perhaps never dissolves completely) and so clogs the sump filter, with a very resilient salt. I would expect that even liquid detergent will also clog that filter, by precipitation. Thus the need to clean the sump filter, method provided within this EXCELLENT video, is a chore every dw owner should expect to undertake... perhaps annually. (I speak from experience, on this problem.)

Fantastic video, thanks! One thing I would add is to make sure you keep track of the small washer (part 453) in the venturi that serves as the bearing for the lower spray arm. I would have lost it down the drain while I was cleaning the venturi if I hadn't put the basket filter in my sink.

We have a four year old GE dishwasher that was working great up until we removed it to renovated the kitchen. We reconnected it and it started, it filled and it emptied the water. I just didn't spray and clean. So after looking at t new one for $550 bucks I decided to look at TH-cam to see if I could find anything. After looking at about (10) video's I found this one and it was dead on. It was 8:30 PM, I was so hopeful I started in on it. At about 9:00 I ran out of steam but I have it all ready to put it back together and I am about 98% sure it will work and maybe better than before. Thank You!!!

Thank you. Excellent video editing producing succinct complete instructions. To prevent such food crude buildup in the future, I suggest that you only use dishwasher detergent that actually solubilizes food grease. The detergent must contain Sodium Hydroxide which turns grease into water soluble soap. I suggest that about once a month, depending on how hard your water is, you fill the detergent dispenser with pure food grade citric acid. The acid dissolves away the mineral deposits. You can buy food grade citric acid from the internet. Or you can buy very expensive Lemishine at the grocery store; which is just pure food grade citric acid.

When my dishwasher started not washing the dishes well I was dreading the thought of yet another service call from GE. After spending thousands of dollars getting my GE washer, dryer, refrigerator, and oven fixed, I knew it would be at least $95 just for them to show up.

My GLD5600R00CC Profile Dishwasher has never cleaned dishes properly. It was a warranty replacement for a GE Dishwasher the home builders put in and not a brand I'd ever purchase. However, I am stuck with it, so finding/watching this video was a life safer. I'm a 51 year-old female & and easily did it myself. I did break off one of the tabs because GE is flimsy junk, so be careful. We have a whole house filter, charged mineral bed and water softener we add salt to, so it shouldn't need cleaned too frequently. Plus, I completely rinse off my dishes before placing them in the dishwasher. Hopefully, disassembling everything and cleaning it will help going forward. I'm tired of having to rewash the dishes by hand. Thank you for your informative video.

Fantastic video! A few years ago there was a recall on some part of the dishwasher. GE sent a technician out to replace the part and he disassembled it to do the replacement. At the time I commented about how difficult it would be for the average person to clean it themselves. I was disgusted and appalled by how dirty mine was - he was non-plussed by it. It occurred to me that the design of the dishwasher was such that you would need to hire out the cleaning. Very frustrating. When my dishwasher no longer was cleaning well I found your video. I can't thank you enough. I just took mine apart, cleaned it, and put it back together. The filter basket tip was great - thanks especially for that.

Exceptional instructions. Description of steps could not be clearer, everything was exactly right and the video was spot on. Whole thing took an hour. And man o man was my dishwasher dirty under there! No wonder it wasn’t cleaning worth a darn. Saved me a ton of money.

You are amazing. The only reason I took on this project was when I previewed your video, you spoke in a clear voice, with plenty of shots showing the parts and going very slow. Also, you showed me how to put it back together. Thank you so much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dude, you were on the money...thank you so much! Might I add in cleaning out the dishwasher compartment... If you have a shop-vac, clean out the dishwasher compartment thoroughly by throwing hot water and subsequently sucking up the contaminated water with the shop vac, include sucking up the water and debris from down into the filter compartment. In addition there were two small washers inserted in the venture, just be careful that they are not dropped lost. The video was fantastic and saved me some big bucks..

Watching this video motivated me to clean my 15-year-old GE profile dishwasher. Not being cleaned for 15 years It looked like a horror movie inside. Spent hours cleaning it and is still not as clean as his was before he started. I do suggest that if you’re going to go through this I suggest you also pull out the door molding and clean it as well.
