But I know it will come to a point to where I will start driving more and I need to think about what you said. Big ups bro.
I couldn’t help but be captivated by the background in your video, Jay. It was like one big post card, with the palm trees and blue water. We as Americans, get so used to the 4 seasons here, that it would definitely take some getting used to, to be in a hot climate all the time. Every video that I’ve watched about D.R., I’ve never seen anyone sweating while being outside whether they were Dominicans or foreigners. I was puzzled by that. Toward the end of the video I saw you start to sweat a little. 😄 The heat, year round, is what I’d have to get used to, the language thing I’m good with; I’ve been studying Spanish for 10 years. Another great video, fam! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Yeah brother it started getting a little warm out there😅. Getting use to the heat is a bigger challenge than most people think. I spoke to a few people before where it was a deal breaker for them
Another good video, my Dominican wife gets upset because I’m not putting forth an effort to learn Spanish, I can read Spanish better than I can speak it and the Malecon is a very beautiful place, when I visit I go to the colmida and have a beer and enjoy the Dominican people, the Dominican people are a very proud people who and friendly, they are proud people
Been raised in New York with a restaurant in almost every block I got acclimated for most of the Dominican culture ,the only thing I miss sometimes is some Jamaican oxtails and coco bread that never find in DR
The spanish language is easy depending the language you speak, if you speaking Portuguese or Italians languages the Spanish language is more easy to learning because you going to find words common 😉 .... just take it easy you going to learn one day .... God bless you 🙏 ❤️

Exactly. Once I leave the states, I switched my mind off from traffic or being in a hurry. Not prison food 😂😂, Jay you didn’t say that out loud. 🌴✊🏿✌🏾💯
Again Great video Jay, 2 years to adjust /adapt, you had it right on the money. I mean is a lot to process, new culture, language, mentality, weather, food, family. Everything you said about the Dominican lifestyle is 100% right. I personally think that if you put a little bit of effort to learn Spanish U would feel fully integrated in the culture. I live 20 years in the Netherlands after 3 years I adapt to the country but didn't know much about the language and that set some limitations on my day to day life. So I decided to change that. Now I can hear people having a random conversation and I know exactly what they are talking about it. The ducht language has become a second mother language to me. Native/local people appreciate when you talk their language. Try some duolingo(language app) . 20min at day make the difference. The app is kind of fun and is free. Hope my English is right. Keep on uploading this kind of video is good content that will be a life lesson for ever because this subject that you talking about it, doesn't apply only for Dominican Republic but for any part of the world you want to move to.
The food is the so true. Growing up I was taught to always say yes if offered something to eat or drink when visiting family in the DR. It’s almost kindve taken like an offense when you say no to food. 😂😂 but exactly like you said, it’s just the culture. One day my husband made a comment about customer service at a Dominican restaurante in nyc, he’s from Brasil and almost everything that Dominicans do would be considered “rude” in Brasil. Then I explained it’s just culture in the Caribbean. Then I took to this Jamaican spot so he can compare the customer service and it was the same. I believe what the difference is that there is less entitlement there. Here in the US there is a lot of entitlement. The perfect example is a Walmart that closes at 10pm and a customer wants to walk in 9:55pm and shop. If they’re rushed out, most likely will be a bad review.
Truthfully i think shedding the Western mindset and expectations will make adjustment in a place like the DR and similar locales a lot easier. As for the heat, I grew up in Louisiana and there is a drastic difference as far as heat. It hits directly in the DR. What's crazy is i see locals wearing sweatshirts and hoodies and its in the upper 90s 😅 im like damn. The food , beans and rice with chicken seafood as well as the monfongo, its similar to what i grew up on in La. One thing I will state is when a Dominican says 12 o clock that means 130 lol. Great video brother.
Them wearing sweatshirts and 3 piece suits in this heat still baffles me to this day..lol! AL and LA has similar weather but you're right it hits totally different. And I should have added punctuality to it too, because I've become acclimated to their tardiness😅
J, I’m a give you a tip: think in Spanish. Stick every word you know in Spanish into your thoughts. It’s gonna be Spanglish, but just roll with it. Reinforce those neural paths by thinking in Spanish. Before you know, you’ll be fluent in the language. That’s what I did when I came to leave here and I was “fluid-ish” in English by year 2. Also, watch the news in Spanish, but no DR’s, watch Telemundo or something like that where the lingo is consistent and little slang gets presented. You’ll learn “Dominican” after you know Spanish. You can thank me for the advise next year 😊
I will say about the climate that must be global warming because when I was little I remember my grandmother telling us don't you feel the xmas breeze, so it did use to get a bit cooler in winter, plus it is cool in Contanza, that part of the country and I member going to Jarabacoa and felling cold 🙂 but once I came to USA and felt real cold then yes to me now DR is always hot lol

The amount of time will vary from person to person. Most of the time when people say they've adjusted they're really tolerating. Not because they've accepted things as they are. In my opinion, if a person has never experienced Dominican culture and say they fully adjusted in 3 to 6 months, I have a hard time believing it.
