I always really liked Tom Cruise as Jack Reacher. I know others hated it because the physicality was all wrong but to me it made sense. In my mind, Reacher works better as an anonymous character, someone you truly 'don't count on,' not a massive physical threat like The Rock.

Cruise brings the intensity needed.
In the novels, Reachers personality has a lot to do with his size...first I wasn't happy with Cruise playing him but he nailed it and probably played him better than anyone else could....
Cruise did a great job, as slways. But as a fan of the books, it is all wrong.

The actor playing the good guy always gets the credit for a bad-a** scene, but it takes at least two actors who know their stuff for the scene to work.

I've listened to several Jack Reacher novels on Recorded Books. I've never heard him called that.

Even better when you see the drive up by the sheriff, you see a half dozen guys laid out in the parking lot, and they tell him one guy did all that.

I still maintain that the studio messed up a perfect opportunity to call this one: Jack Reacher: Another Reacher Round.
We can say what we want about Cruise's short stature, and success, and money, and Scientology, but the guy is a flat out awesome stage presence and War of The World's was as a whole phenomenal because of his acting

Credit where credit's due to the actor for Sherriff Wood, Jason Douglas, who is spot on with the character and has his own filmography, including a lot of awesome voice work.
My all time favorite scene from Jack Reacher
I can't help but admire Tom...he takes a book about a powerfully built tall muscular military man, casts himself in the lead, totally owns the role and makes millions of $$$. These are great films...but they are not true to the books...but Tom has moved the goal posts to suit himself...I have to applaud him...genuinely...his achievements are mind blowing. What one man can achieve. I totally applaud him.

I'm sure a lot of people would be reminded of the interrogation scene from Lord of War where Nicolas Cage's character predicated a military official ringing the phone too.
A knock on the door, same meaning. Always fun when the tables turn. Love that scene. Don't ever tell me Cage can't act. He and Ethan Hawke were incredible in that scene.

there's something really satisfying in watching an arrogant bully get taken down. great scene. And something I failed to observe the first time I saw this clip was the smug, arrogant dismissive look on the face of the shorter officer being wiped away in an instant when the phone began to ring.

Totally agree. Who else could have played this movie? Dwayne Johnson definitely...Ben Affleck...actually loads of actors...but Tom absorbed this movie into his portfolio and did a great job...6ft4" actors are lefty scratching their heads and wondering what happened....while Tom is negotiating his next franchise as the giant of Sullivan's Travels....

I don’t care about the discrepancy in height in books and the movies. Cruise is an actor’s actor.Every inch he may lack in comparison to book character, he more than makes up for in convincing you he’s 6 foot whatever with his acting skill. I’ll take this Reacher any time

I have read all the Reacher books. Yes it would of been nice if a bigger/taller guy would of played the "Reacher character" I am not a Cruise fan at all. He did how ever bring the character into the main stream. Does a better than decent job at it as well. Definitely some creative liberties were taken when adapting the books to screenplay. Over all it is entertaining. Just my opinion which means nothing in reality of everyone else's interpretation of what is good and bad as far as a film goes.

Plus the books author has no problem with Tom Cruise playing Jack Reacher.

It's a shame they didn't make like a dozen of these movies. Reacher is a fun character.

I love this scene for a weird reason. I've done a little bit of community theater, beginning as a techie then moving "up" into acting, and I *love* playing roles like the Sheriff in this scene, in front of an audience. When I do it right I can feel the hatred for the character radiating from the audience, and then their satisfaction when the character gets their due come-uppence, as the Sheriff does at the end of this scene (there's probably a term from drama theory about this kind of situation, though I don't know what it is). Anyway, I have as much or more fun playing character roles like that than necessarily being the star of the show.
Character acting is some of the best acting in all of drama.

those phones rarely didn't work,they are land lines,only reason,only,reason they took them out,was because of dope deals,not traceable instantaneously, fact,i miss them,if you had to have a conversation over a job or talk to mom,they always worked,no failed calls,black out areas

I read all the jack reacher books in jail and they’re WAY better then the move. Not even close.
Its always the case, books are better than the films. But of course it requires some effort and imagination - sadly lacking in a lot of young people these days.

Ever had a chill go through you when you realize something just happened that's going to be really bad for you? That's what that sheriff and his deputy felt when the phone rang.
With the new series out it is extremely difficult to imagine the dwarf Tom Cruise playing this giant of a man, some of the oddest casting ever, almost comical, especially if you happen to compare the two.

By the end of the scene, more than 90 seconds had passed since Reacher made his prediction, yet the Sheriff wasn't on his way to prison yet. Also, I imagine the MPs would probably just use their own cuffs instead of taking the cuffs off of Reacher and putting them on the Sheriff.
