The cymbal work and fast arpeggiated bass lines are hella jazz fusion. Whoever composed this track is really talented.

That would be Akira Yamaoka! Using Machine Head as an alias. Also composed for Silent Hill!

I love that the We Are Finally Cowboys bass line kinda seeps through in this piece. It shows how seriously Travis takes this fight

I've said this in another video, but this really should have been called "Desperate Struggle". The haunting piano, the ghastly synth, that bassline that just won't stop... and the fact Travis REALLY DID NOT WANT to kill Alice. This song is fucking phenomenal and should've been treated as such.

Honestly, can you imagine imagine if they swapped Alice and batt?
You get told early on that the guy who killed bishop is rank two leading to the player going, “holy shit, the guy who did this is only second? Then who’s number one?”
The answer is someone trapped in the same cycle as travis, a killer trapped in a world of violence. by the end of the fight, only one of them will truly escape, and the other… will survive.

Not to mention, they could have still tackled the 'is revenge really worth it' theme through this route.
And end the game on a much more epic note as well.

only issue is that it'd give the journey a cathartic weight to it that is lacking in the final version of the game. The underwhelming ending is supposed to be a direct indictment of the quest for revenge, whereas alice being the final battle would romanticize that struggle in a way by giving it a certain level of tragic beauty. Pizza Batt as the final boss just takes the wind out of your sails by showing your revenge quest for what it is, a pathetic slap fight between two immature losers

Every number 2 boss fight in the numbered titles have always some compelling speech before ultimately dying, Bad Girl, Alice, Sonic Juice/Henry and then we have everyone in TSA.

I always supposed SUDA51 wanted 2nd ranked assassins to symbolize how rotten the society becomes with killers.
First you have Bad Girl, a girl who was enhanced with experiments, affecting her psyche and becoming a person whose only reason of living is constantly killing, even if they are clones of the same person.
Second you have Alice, for me, the best character in all of No More Heroes lore. She doesn't talk so much, you don't even who she is, not even her name. You just see her burning past memories, framing the UAA for creating permanently assassins, whose only way out is being killed by a similar. Her whole environment is brilliant. Walking through depressing dark looking buildings, just to find an assassin who is there to be “freed”. She is one of the only to recognize Travis' career (along with Nathan Copeland), and once killed (being the only one assassin whose blood directly touches Travis, along with Bad Girl and Henry, both 2nd ranked assasins, if Henry can be considered so), Travis' mind shatters and decides to put an end to the UAA. She only mentions her name before dying and her battle may be the most memorable in the series (Henry competing).
And last one is Henry, kinda replacing Paradox Bandit once FU kills his 2nd ranked assasin (not the same as his 2i/c who is Sonic Juice). He got a cult, a new voice and style and he became a hitman (Damon hires him to kill Travis before FU does). He tells the truth about Travis and Jeane backstory and enrages Travis to a point where he ends killing him (at least, intended, he fought a clone). We must consider Henry and Travis may be considered rivals (on NMH he consideres himself as such) and in NMH2 Travis rescues him from Dr. Letz Shake, appearing on the last fight to support Travis on his fight with Jasper Batt Jr. He represented how being an assassin corrupts you over time (we may suppose he became an assassin way before Travis). Afterwards, he killed Travis in a near future, allying with aliens.

      She kinda is?
For me is the same situation with Yakuza 6 where the final boss is a shitty guy with shitty motives and a shitty fight and don't deserve any kinda of respect and neither the protagonist and the player respects the final boss. But the last fight before the final boss you fight a good person, a person you respect with motives, and a amazing fight with an amazing track and the whole fight is sad. Both are what should be the true final boss and that's helps making you get even more angry with the shit final boss.
I feel like Nobutaka Ichiki was thinking something like this

I have only played through the first 2 games in the series. I am about to play TSA, but I have noticed a pattern that I’m not sure will show up in NMH 3. It seems like the buildup to the 2nd ranked bosses in 1 and 2 are much more intense. It’s much more emotional, and just leaves both rank 1 bosses feel underwhelming. Alice had a much more moody and superior boss fight compared to Batt, same how Bad Girl’s situation was far more overwhelming than Jeane. Maybe Batt should have been the one responsible to kill Bishop, but Alice would have been a far superior final boss in my opinion.
