Absolutely love this style of painting! Right now I have a large piece of hot press on my desk awaiting my inspiration…you reading my mind? Thank you.❤️🐝
Love it,Ellen. It’s only stress-free if you can draw! I love, love this look, though. Please do more of this, and thank you. (Thanks for reminding us what dark in negative space does.)
Thank you. Another TH-camr suggested I try hot press as a way to avoid the rapid drying I get living in a dry climate at altitude, so this is well-timed!
This is great. My daughter sent me a pad of Arches hot pressed paper...I was just getting used to the cold pressed , and 🤔 wondered how to work with this new paper...thanks to you Ellen for coming to my rescue with this tutorial..I will give this a go. Your painting is beautiful.
I just started playing with hot press paper & it’s something you have to get use to, because like you said Ellen, the paint just sits on top for some time. It gives you more time to play & move your paint but you have to move to another area unless you want bleed. Illl keep playing …we shall see.
This is lovely! You’ve inspired me to try hot press again. I have a block I’ve barely used. But you do a good job showing it is different and to expect a different look and a different way to paint. Thank you!
Ellen, I watch your videos faithfully and have learned so much! I followed you on this and it turned out great! Thank you for using a different type of wc paper. (Hot press is very good to use for calligraphy as well!)
Your purple flower is 'Liatris' Ellen you painted it a few videos ago x I've never tried hot pressed although I have the little 'stonhenge' pads so will try the paper in those. Thank you for a great tutorial. I do love the pen and ink/wash enjoy your weekend xxx
This is BEAUTIFUL! I too love Italian poetry. I’ve never used hot press. Would it bleed too much on cold press paper? Great tutorial! More Italian art scenes please! You are awesome!
I have two pads of hot press arches and 2 pads of fabriano hot press and I keep feeling like I made a big mistake in buying them because I vibe SO much better with cold pressed but this video helps me. Maybe I won't just toss them out the window.
Hi Ellen. Great video. Can you please clarify? I just purchased one of Arches’ hot press pads after not having used hot press paper in years. I was surprised to find that both sides of each page are not equally smooth. With cold press, you’re meant to paint, or so I was taught, on the “rough” side of each page, even though the Arches stamp is on the smoother (back) side. Their hot press pad is ordered with the smoother sides first/on top. On which hot press side (totally smooth or not “”) is it correct to paint? Thanks
Off topic: Can you do a video on brushes - the types of brush. I have just bought a big brush but it has goat hair. Goat hair.. I have never heard of a brush like that ha. I have no idea what goat hair brushes are for. I know sable is quite good but I don't know what other types you have for watercolour.
Im so happy to find this video im going to put hot press wcp on my lottery win bucket list.....enjoyed learning your techniques..mikelle art mom 🎨✍👩🎨

Just ordered pen and ink!

Caroline here. Love this look!
I love the video. You always make it look so easy. I tried hot press and wasn't liking it. Will try again. Thanks Ellen
Love the flowers! As you say, no need to be perfect - - nature is perfectly imperfect, after all! Also, Noodlers Lexington Gray is waterproof.
Love this painting - thank you❤️
This is magnificent! Thank you 😊 💓

So pretty❤❤!!thank you!
Very fun! The purple/magenta flower is gayfeather. Amazing the difference it makes to add the different colors at the end.
I used hot press for city scenes, not so much for flowers but I LOVE this! Going to paint it in my sketchbook.
Beautiful!❤️
This is so pretty!
I love it
Need to try some hot press...
Can always go for a Fude nib if you want a variety in line width. :)
This is lovely and fun! I’m trying to do a more realistic botanical painting on hot press, and I’m very frustrated.

How is the fountain pen results different from using a Micron pen? Love this painting, thanks!
How can I soften a black edge thanks for showing from South Africa

Hate hot press. Great base of flowers!
Could you do this with just watercolor no ink

I bought some Arches paper with an orange cover and it doesn't say what type of paper it is, do you know?
Orange cover is rough press!
Pink cover is hot press!
Green cover is cold press!
it should unless its NOT arches beware of fakes here is the real orange cover amzn.to/3oYepPn
Omg what's the difference 😳
Aspine? Fountain pen? Spelling please anyone?

So I’m a cheater…I took a screenshot of the sketch, resized it and lightly
“Traced” it onto my watercolor paper with carbon paper …
