Damn, who made that security door? I want one of those. PFD used to carry two man battering rams on trucks. I guess that's no more.

Outstanding video and great work by your truck guys and all department to stop this fire. Not sure where the safety officer is that should be there making sure firefighters are being safe and wearing gear and things like that but I’m glad you stepped up to the plate and told the guy to put on his coat everyone goes home that’s a goal for all of us to remember.

These arent highlight videos. These videos are for training purposes, not to show off. Mistakes can and do happen on the fireground and being able to watch these videos afterwards, and see what we would or could have done differently or better is more helpful than just talking about it. We are a highly trained engine and ladder company and firegrounds almost always go smoothly with no issues. Very rarely though, a million things do go wrong and it turns into a complete shitshow. Especially if you have a bunch of extra guys on the truck because it's a change of shift job and everybody wants to help and get involved. Guys learn from their mistakes and anyone watching this video can Monday Morning Quarterback and hopefully not make similar mistakes.

100% agree. Every fire scene is chaotic but change of shift jobs with extra guys jumping on the truck are even worse. It can be a help or a hindrance. Everyone's roles are diminished and there can be communication and equipment issues but you do have the benefit of extra manpower. Portable ladder out front was put up for egress short of the window so it didn't burn, ladder on the side was for ventilation, and ladder to the roof in the rear was for roof operations. The front door was reinforced with 2×4s behind it so it took longer to force while the side door was unlocked so that was the one that was used.

@Jesse Osada Exactly its amazing how many armchair or career fire fighters that were not on scene say how you should have done it. Fact is we are all human. After every incident a review is done to see what went right/wrong, what better could have been done, or reinforced etc. Having spent over a decade in law enforcement and military and various emergency services, I would never watch a video and be critical of another persons choices made in the heat of the moment. One of the main things they taught us in the academy is hindsight is always 20/20 and its real easy to go frame by frame with a video and disect it piece by piece. But the heat of the moment you don't have that luxury. The videos we used for training always came with context and were throughly researced. We were never critical of the choices made, only to learn from them. Learn what worked and what didn't, and what could we do better going forward. That's why it literally irks me to see people that claim to be career firefighters jump on and blast another department from a short video with only one perspective and no context.

No packs on, even after seeing fire on arrival, dude up a ladder with no coat or SCBA, camera guy ditched the radio (let’s hope he doesn’t have to call a mayday). We are called professional for a reason. We deal with inner city shit all the time, doesn’t mean we aren’t ready to go aggressive when we get on a job. I think this criticism is a little unfair until you fight fires in the kind of neighbor hoods we fight these fires in with the condition the dwellings are in you probably can't relate I'm a Ladder officer in Philly in a area not far from where they are and deal with the same kind of condition. Where is it normal to have a fully occupied dwelling and have one of the fully functional doors sealed from the inside with 2X4's that had to sawed open or have so much clutter piled up in a house that a 5' 10" guy(me) while crawling to find the steps for a fire in the upstairs rear bedroom I leaned up on my knees and hit my head on the living room ceiling this stuff is not normal the only city that compares is Baltimore, should they be safer? Sure but everyone in the fire service should strive to be safer on every call

@@ericscott430 all I am saying is it takes little time to get dressed and at least pretend to care about yourself. When things go bad will the city deny workers comp because you’re not dressed in minimally appropriate PPE …. It’s just a bad example of how things could be better. You can see videos and other examples of many major metropolitan fire departments and every member is dressed in full PPE even cities with more urban blight than Philly. Bosses shouldn’t accept poor performance and noncompliance it shows poorly on the managers. Either way, I don’t work in Philly. Sorry if I offended but I actually care about perception and people and if you can’t keep your people safe then what’s the point of being a lieutenant/captain/battalion chief or even senior man. @@moemedicpa no Chief you’re correct and you did not offend guys should definitely be dressed when they exit the apparatus with their full PPE it’s a constant battle for me with guys to get them to wear their scbas like they should but as far as blight I know they have it in NYC and Chicago and Boston and most older cities but ours is just different we just lost a great LT in a building collapse during the over haul/ fire investigation phase at least an hour or more after the fire had been extinguished and I was just at a fire a couple of weeks after that where we had a rear of the row home collapse during the fire fight and another great LT got burned really bad from the debris who may not make it back to the job but my frustration was not meant for you it’s just that on here I see a lot of criticism from people who probably haven’t been to many fires if any at all or had the pressure of trying to contain a house with heavy fire throughout to keep it from extending and affecting the whole block of houses and not just the one house that’s all I took it a little personal so my apologies for that you also stay safe out there

I don't know! Maybe it's just me but, I would pull up in an Engine with 1000 gallons of onboard water, pull a 1-3/4" line while the engineer activates the pump, and I would put maybe 20-30 gallons into that room and soak all the burning material. Call me crazy but I would think those flames would be a hazard to the victims, entering firefighters and the structure itself. I thought they were called, "Firefighters!" No wonder these guys chose this profession over one that required you to have a strong and responsible Work Ethic! Like, sweeping floors!
