    Outstanding garden video. I still garden some , but my brothers, Dad and I used to have a 5 acre truck garden back in the day. brings back lots of memories and I don`t know if , with the video looking so slick, people know just how much hard work goes into something like you have. Will anxiously await you next installment.

    I like field trips, I am inviting you over to mylittle garden on u-tube for your own little field trip :) I got inspired by your garden and even tho I only have a tote garden I think it did pretty well this year. I did also put it about a 3 row reg garden at another house I was working at..also and got like 3 and 4lb tomatoes this year. Thank you for all your great advice and I would rate your garden a 20 out of 10. You and your gardening have been a real blessing thank you and God bless!

    @lotzoso ... planting in cages allows the plants to vine up and not along the ground. Makes it much easier to find and harvest the cucumbers. It's also said that they grow straighter when hanging which I'm not totally convinced of that idea cause some still have a curve to em. Makes it much easier to keep the grass and weeds under control as well..... Donald

    You can use the sealed bags or plastic containers. When using containers I cove the vegetables with water to keep em fresh longer. It varies with different vegetables but the experts say approx 6 months. I think it could be a little longer for most things…..Donald

  • @sparkie119
    @sparkie119 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    Cherokee Purple sure is a good tomato. I grew it last year and boy was it tasty. I also tried in a garden salad and the salad was outstanding. Over here in New Mexico. We don't really have fall tomatoes Donald, because we have a really early frost here in Albuquerque. But I do no that it's much more moist in Louisiana then it is here in the dry southwest US.

  • @webcajun
    @webcajun  14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @saintveil ... that depends on how high the water gets around the garden after a big rain. Rows are generally 4-6 inches tall (above ground level) at planting time. The middles will usually be a couple of inches below ground level. The more rains you get the more the row will wash into the middles. They'll still be above ground level but may wash down to only a few inches.........Donald

    @crewlla ... the next day those little birds had all their feathers and were running around all over the place. I picked those big squash and had a 5 gal can on just one of the plants. Ran em through a blender and fed the worms. Hope you have good luck with your garden this year.......Donald

    Hey Tommy, Yes I’ve watched the “Back to Eden” video a couple of times. My problem would be to find a large enough reliable source of wood chips / compost. The cost of hauling that in would also be a concern. In my situation I think sticking with what’s working for me now is my best choice…..Donald

  • @webcajun
    @webcajun  14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @melonbarmonster ... having all this space to work with is really nice. When it's time to plant I don't have to hurry and take something out, just plant somewhere else. Lived in the city for a few years and like you I didn't have much space to work with....... Donald

    Hello Donald. Seen the video on weed control with cultivation and the corn. You do an excellent job on weed control. Last year we had a "bumper crop" of goat heads and button weeds. What's your other techniques to keep the grass and othe weeds down?

  • @webcajun
    @webcajun  14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @webcajun I am working hard on the garden in the back and this year we added a garden in the front too. got rid of all our grass. Our weather here sucks. Alberta is the only place in canada not getting good weather. for the last two weeks we have had rain and cold weather. I am keeping my fingers crossed that every thing servives and produces but, there is always a chance that it wont. the states is really looking good right now. to bad I dont have the money to move.

  • @webcajun
    @webcajun  13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @231MasseyFerguson ...Dig down a couple of inches and check the moisture, if dry then it's time to water. There is really no set time cause some soils hold water better than others and some people water more (amount) than others. That is really something you have to determine.....Donald

    Aloha Donald, your garden is really looking nice. I just recently started gardening and I'm still an amatuer...mine looks nothing like what you have going but I hope to get it right soon. :) The soil here in Haiku is so rich, and the climate is really ideal so gardens' produce here year round. That is what I'm counting on.....I need all the natural help from the good Lord that I can get! :) By the way, you are being modest, your garden is better than a 7! Nice job. I bet it will be really tasty.

    what size is your garden, I got my husband to plow me a small spot in my front yard where its sunny and I think if I plan it right I can do some pretty good gardening. your garden is stunning, how do you keep it weed free without killing yourself. @webcajun  14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @JoeHell67 ... Hey Joe, my Cherokee Purple did pretty good this year. Towards the end of the season we had a big rain storm (14 inches) with strong winds and it damaged some. Bugs were real bad in the spring and again in late summer. Hadn't pulled them up yet but I doubt they'll make anymore. My fall tomatoes are almost 3 ft. tall so I should get a few from them.........Donald

  • @webcajun
    @webcajun  14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @Newyorkischaos ... I haven't had any luck with the Creole tomatoes so I don't think I'm going to plant them again. Once you see the silk on the ears, the corn is usually ready in 21-24 days........Donald

  • @webcajun
    @webcajun  14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @menmach100 ... Squash are real easy to grow. In the spring once all danger of frost has ended plant the seeds (3-4 per hill) approx an inch deep and water in real well. Space the hills about 4 ft. apart. Keep the soil moist and in no time at all you’ll have little plants popping up. When they are 3-4 inches tall remove all but the healthiest one. Give em just a little fertilizer about once a month and you’ll harvest a ton of squash...... Donald

UPDATE: ive had to move my garden closer to the house, birds are eating the leaves effectively killing them :( thanks for your suggestion.

    sorry for commenting late...
    a garden can always be better, it's never perfect, right?

    The organic pepper spray helped but a storm knocked it down...
    it's still alive and carrying one tomato!

    hope you are well!

    Donald, i'm having a really problem growing cantaloupe and cucumber plants in my garden. The plants will grow out nicely, bloom, even produce small fruit, however, they will die from the end and then all the way back to the hills?
    very frustrating-is this a soil deficiency or a disease?
