After using both for a while. While I don’t mind the smart tv features, I 100% agree. I think focusing more on features that people who are actually interested in this monitor need. Like KVM switch or a proper picture by picture that doesn’t introduce massive input lag.
@@seriultgmx This being a productivity monitor, I'd say leave off even the KVM switch and PbP, but neither would add any real cost to production. I have a basic Samsung UHD IPS monitor now. If you are a heavy windows user and mac user there is not alternatives than this monitor if 5k is very important. Sure 4k works on a mac. It works VERY well on a PC/windows. And it's sad that Apple can not get pass the fact that Apple display would be great for windows also. I would save my $$$ to get a Studio display if I knew it would work well with windows. But it just does not. The end. I want the full 5k for mac. And windows I dont care to much about. They should leave you the smartTV thing. It's sooooo cheap looking. It's almost a deal breaker for me. But I can choose to forget about the fact that it has tons of useless stuff that I'm probably paying for. Apple's display is too "pro" and to "mac"-ish. I hope that is the perfect balance between mac and pc world. This was a very good review. All the right angles. And you should stress that this is the only option for us heavy windows/mac users. Great video!. Do you think this will work well as a vertical secondary monitor connected to a PC? Cheers. Main monitor is a 4K 240HZ 32inch for gaming.
So if you’re currently using a 240hz monitor, I’m thinking the s9’s 60Hz panel maybe jarring for you, maybe not. There’s great options for less like the Dell G3223Q, Lg, msi etc. But if the 5k resolution is key for you, then I this kinda your only real option.
Thanks for the review! Not sure if you answered this, but is it possible to get 5K resolution using the mini display port input with a Windows PC or is that only possible using the thunderbolt connection?
$599 for a 5k display is diabolical! I 100% agree with your conclusion, at that price, it’s the best lol! Also, I didn’t give it enough credit. The colours on this display are some of the best you’d ever see. It would sound like sacrilege, recently compared side by side the S9 and the G80SD (qd-oled) and the colours on the s9 actually looked noticeably richer than the oled with very similar calibration settings. The black levels on the s9 are not good but the colours are insane.
Hey Man! Awesome video. I've been scoping to get my hands on this for a couple of months now. My use case is ext monitor for my MacBook and connect my series X for casual gaming. Any idea if I can connect my console to this monitor?
Hey man, sorry for the late response. I think you can get an hdmi to display port mini or a display port mini to hdmi adapter (48gbps speed) to handle 120hz signal. Then you can connect the MacBook Pro through the usbc Thunderbolt 4
As someone who also has the M8, I wonder do you feel like you lost or that it’s noticeable loss in real estate since the S9 isn’t as “tall”? Also, Great video btw!
Great question! Coming from the M8, yes you’d notice but not as bad as I feared. The 5k resolution does enable you fit ‘more’ in the screen when you scale so it kinda compensates for the reduction in size. 32” is still my preferred size but for the bump in colour accuracy, brightness and overall display quality, I can take the size compromise.
@@seriultgmx Appreciate you brotha! This is awesome insight and just what I needed to know. Also thought of something. I wonder if the M8s camera works on the S9 and still holds its quality… or not. Just a thought. Either way, keep up the great work man!
Personally, I think it’s worth it at that price point, if 5k is important to you and you don’t mind the matte finish too much. Even though this monitor shines well in display quality, if you like the glossy finish, a matte finish will never look as good compare to the glossy finish even they they can pretty the much the same panel on both situations. So just bear that in mind
@@seriultgmx my frankenstein setup is almost complete! Though not without a few issues. Picked up on the s9 on sale, but Windows/Nvidia is having a hard time keeping the scaling between sleep cycles. This is first time I'm running two different resolutions in a while, so hopefully it'll work itself out. W10 Pro doesn't seem to like running the s9 in 5k with an attatched 1440p secondary, though 4k seems alright even though it's not native. The macbook auto runs in 5k, no issues. The 5k aspect of the monitor is only important to me as for as the mac goes for scaling, what is way more important is the color accuracy :) I don't care about the speakers, web cam or the stand. When using either the usbc or the display port cable, I get 10bit colour dept no issues. You just need to make sure that you’re using a thunderbolt 4 usbc cable or an 8k bandwidth DisplayPort mini to DisplayPort to handle 10bit at 5k resolution and 60hz

Nice review! When I plug in my windows pc to the monitor using a mini display to display port cable it doesn't show anything on screen. Is there anything I'm missing?
Hello there, Sorry to hear that. With mine, once I plug in the display port cable to a PC, it works instantly, as well as the usbc. There are a few times I’d have to plug and unplug it after I’ve done a full power down of the monitor to get it working again. If this problem persists, it could be a faulty port but lemme know if you’re still having this issue.
2:36 i dont know, im feeling pain watching the way he put the display over the stand like that :(. but its fine brother, as long as you dont harm the panel its good. great video tho o7
Oh wow, is it at the very corner of the screen as in vignetting? If it’s that jarring I don’t think that’s normal because I don’t get that on mine. It might be a pain but try to have it returned for a new one. Given that you just got it, you may still be in the return window.
Yes you do have a point there. It would need to be an HDMI 2.1 port and I can see how it may have gone against their design philosophy for this display.
"It's regrettable that they only think about Mac users, especially since Mac already has more options (LG and Apple), and Windows or Linux users are left with limited choices due to not having a Thunderbolt port."
@@Amg8783kyes you can use the DisplayPort to mini display port cable no issues. You just won’t be able to access the webcam natively in windows. If you plugged in an ssd in those ports, it’s only the system that’s plugged in via usbc that can access it.
I experience kernel panic when my mbp goes to sleep, and sometimes when I connect the monitor to mbp, S9 starts to make a slim noise :Q anyone experiencing this? I could switch to DP but I don't want to lose the 5K resolution.
Wow, sorry you’re getting that. I personally didn’t experience this, however, I’m not 100% confident about the ports section. It just seems a little loose so I wouldn’t be surprised if you experiencing some noise probably due to a loose contact. I’ve tested mine with an M1 MacBook Air and didn’t get that noise. If it’s really bothersome and it’s helpfully still in the return window, try a return and see if the problem persists.
I can’t argue with that. What the Eve spectrum monitors are doing for the similar price point is way more value as it’s an OLED screen that’s over 120 hz a glossy finish and even up to 32”
I don’t know why, hopefully this is a trend that improves in 2024, but almost all monitors that are tailored for ‘professionals’ are capped at 60Hz. 120hz is such a HUGE improvement over 60Hz in motion and perceived speed so I don’t know why they always think professionals don’t need it. Even the studio display is capped at 60Hz. It’s think that’s ridiculous at this stage in display technology.
I don’t see any difference in 60 or 120. I think majority of people don’t notice the difference unless perhaps gaming. MBKHD did a video on 120 and ya most people don’t notice.
For my eyes, the S9's color and contrast looks better than M8. Normaly becasue of the VA panel i thought M8 is better for movies but now side by side comparation S9 colors looks beautiful.
