  • Ever wonder what's the difference between an open cell and closed cell wetsuit? Did you even know there's more than one wetsuit type?? JBL's Guy Skinner walks us through the various differences between the two.

Great post. I really wish someone would invent a closed cell that is just as warm as an open cell. I was WAY OVER the spooge years ago. I, actually everyone, wants to just pull on your suit and go..

Count us among them, unfortunately it's that sweet, sweet, seal between skin and open cell that makes them so warm.

Can I go diving in the closed cell suit? or i have to buy the open cell? because i usually dive in about 70 degree water temp.

Hey there! For 70 degree water you should be fine with the closed cell suit. A 3mm open cell would work as well. They are two piece suits so if you get hot you can always dive just the top portion.

Does open cell mean it takes on water like a dish washing sponge? You said it is more buoyant, so maybe not? Are cells interconnected?

Open cell refers to the fact that there is no lining on the inside of our wetsuits. On traditional closed cell wetsuits, there is a fabric lining on the inside that "sandwiches" in the neoprene. The benefit of open cell wetsuits are that they are much warmer than closed cell wetsuits. Open cell wetsuits do not take on water but the material is more porous and (typically) thicker. Both of these characteristics make them more buoyant.

We need more active content! I bought a euro woody a few months back. Wondering why there's not more content on jbl spearguns on TH-cam. Grab a GoPro, go dive and lets see some action! guarantee you will have more if not double the sales. Everyone told me to buy Riffe. I chose to trust this company. I don't regret it! Wether you like it or not, its 2022.. Lets get some social media going!
