Rumor is he played a 6A mouthpiece. I was not able to find one but got a 5A or 7A I forget and man, plugged that thing into my horn and it was Chetsville. So if you play consider this.

Chet’s breath support is amazing, even hunched over in a deep soft chair. Every entrance is perfect and supported, even at low volume. And of course, he is the very definition of “doing it with your eyes closed!”

I've listened to this solo at least 10 times and every time I hear I'm floored. He simply OWNS harmonic structure. I think it may be the most brilliant solo I've ever heard and he tosses it of as if he were ordering a salad.

I'm digging chet doing his usual cool soulfull thing and feeling so laid back. ........then out of nowhere a sudden mood change......the cool tragic demeanour of his horn snaps me out of my slumber and leaves wide awake .....
Chet suddenly bursts into an upbeat version of "have you met miss Jones ? " from a lively finger snapping tempo he goes into a frenetic double time. The CAT is on fire, smoking his ass off!!! In that mood nobody can touch him...........

I don’t want to incite a riot here. In the final analysis, I suppose it’s all a matter of personal preference... and respecting one another’s personal tastes. For me, Chet wins hands down. Miles’ later playing was really rather messy.. I say this as a Trumpeter myself, and appreciate others will not like me saying that. But I like clean attack on the note, and Chet delivers this, consistently. RIP Chet

Miles was genious too but I have a lot more Chet Baker tracks I listen to again and again than Miles'.
