  • NORTH LINCOLNSHIRE PARISH #52: BRIGG
    Welcome to Brigg - a market town which lies at the junction of the River Ancholme and East to West transport routes across northern Lincolnshire.
    Brigg used to be an important local town's, and used to be referred to by its full name Glanford Brigg. Officially, that still is its name, but these days everyone knows it as Brigg
    The origin of the town’s name is somewhat unclear. There are theories about the “Glan” part of the name, but ford refers to an actual ford across the River Ancholme.
    When a bridge was built over the river, it became Glanford Bridge. Over time that became Glanford Brigg and eventually Glanford was dropped.
    Brigg originally sat at the meeting point of four parishes - Broughton, Kettleby, Scawby and Wrawby, although it lay mainly in Wrawby and was officially regarded as part of that village.
    Even today, Wrawby and Brigg are inextricably linked. The town was substantially improved and rebuilt in the late 1700s and early 1800s, thanks to the Elwes family, the largest landowners
    For centuries, Brigg was a small fishing hamlet. It grew quickly in the 19th century and was soon a thriving inland port, dealing with thousands of ships per year
    There’s a lot here, so let’s get walking and see what we can find!

    Know brigg well. My grandma was a nurse at the hospital which is now health place. Vale academy is a fairly new building. It used to have a building on redcombe lane and two on grammar school road. It was my old school. Tesco is on the land of the old cattle market.

    A fact a learnt about Brigg was that it's part of one of the few constituencies that cover two counties, that being East Yorkshire (Goole) and obviously Lincolnshire

    • @TheVillageIdiot
      @TheVillageIdiot  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, Brigg and Goole. I've always thought that to be a little of a weird constituency

    There's parts of that REALLY look like Doncaster Centre, especially given for fact that The have a pub called The Black Bull and The Woolpack! By the way who composed the music at the beginning and the end of each video?

      Start is Ratatouille's Kitchen (Edu Espinol), the end is called Movin' Up (Dan Lebowitz)

      @TheVillageIdiot  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have to admit, for a town of its size, the rail network does neglect it a bit
