I regret so much that I didn't download the Scene by scene with Paul Schrader and Roman Polanski back when they were up here on youtube.. .They're impossible to find now :(
I dont understand what all you Mark Cousins haters are talking about, he's a good interviewer, has a great insight into film and its history, and allows the director and his work to take centre stage.
TH-cam unfortunately removed Woody Allen and Roman Polanski "Scene by Scene" episodes. Both are inevitably facinating and insightful glimpses into two of the greatest filmmakers of all time's legacy. Mark Cousins (regardless of his eccentric personality) is an excellent inverviewer. Because he provides a considerable amount of passion and love for that director's (whoever he may be interviewing at that time) work.
@@gotocustudiofilmsthecheapb3802 oh man, my comment is 7 years old, a lot has changed, I don't even remember saying this XD my top 3 right now is 1. Kubrick (as always), 2. Scorsese (I grown to enjoy most of his movies better over time) and 3 is a though one, it could be a contest between the Coens, Park Chan Wook, Sergio Leone, Tarantino from the 90's or Nae Caranfil, really hard to decide.
@@6020e3 nice lol. ya youtube's kinda cool like that. i'll forget i wrote a joke about something & when i read it again i'll make myself laugh cuz i think it's hilarious! great choices there. i like how u specify tarantino in the 90s, he himself knows his quality's going down & says the next film will be his last. i've never heard of caranfil, i'll have to look him up, thanks
I'd say that's partly because of their working styles. Kubrick spends a lot more time developing a film so he has much less output. Each film is the equivalent of 4 times as much thought & planning as some of the films from other great directors. They are timeless & certainly masterpieces. The drawback is they lose some urgency, immediacy, & spontaneity, things that the best Scorsese films display so well. I consider Goodfellas & Raging Bull masterpieces too, on par with any Kubrick film. I like both types of films equally so I consider both directors to be on the same level, they are the pinnacle. For me no one can touch them :)
i think scorsese best film is star wars, i agree that gladiator was quite a good effort but still star wars had it all. gotta give him credit for indiana jones as well such a SICK film
I totally agree with you two. Tarantino is having a hard time trying to reach the Pulp Fiction level again. But he can't because he's too lazy. Scorsese instead is a tireless worker that makes one interesting film after another (And sometimes a masterpiece).
Unfair, although his voice is annoying, he knows his shit, why would he have so many great directors agree to his interviews. He asks really great non typical questions.
mark cousins questing the camera move in taxi driver when the camera moves to the right on the phone?!?!!? thats one of the most famous camera moves in cinematic history- and cousins dosent even have the cinematic knowledge to recognise it - and even questions it?!?!?! the guy is not a filmmmaker of any standard. he shows his ignorance there.
Not only is he a genius (best American filmmaker alive), but he is also so articulate and elegant, full of style and character. I love this man.
It's great to see someone so passionate and so in love with his craft. That's a true film maker.
The greatest American filmmaker alive. From my perspective.
What a master.
i could listen to this guy talk about movies all day.
I love it when he talkes fast about films
Thanks for posting!
he is a magician. the best director in this fucking world.
I could have coffee with Scorsese and discuss movies for days!
I regret so much that I didn't download the Scene by scene with Paul Schrader and Roman Polanski back when they were up here on youtube.. .They're impossible to find now :(
He just made perhaps the greatest documentary on the history of film ever. Check it out: "The Story of Film: An Odyssey"
God yes! I saw it, in its entirety and was damn b-l-ooooooooo-w-n a-w-aaaaaaaaa-y!
I dont understand what all you Mark Cousins haters are talking about, he's a good interviewer, has a great insight into film and its history, and allows the director and his work to take centre stage.
Happy Birth Day Martin Scorsese!!!! 11/17/11
Excellent videos, helps me with my dissertation a lot. Haha.
Cheers.
this guy's great i dont get why people slag him off. he's one of the toughest interviewers i've ever seen on the bbc, asks ballsy stuff.
who slags him off? people on youtube?

Scorsese is not my favorite filmmaker (he is one of my favorites tho), but he is the filmmaker I respect the most!
who's your top 3 favorites?

@trentkill Kubrick is on another level from everyone else. I love both Marty and Stanley, but Kubrick is in a league of his own.
I'd say that's partly because of their working styles. Kubrick spends a lot more time developing a film so he has much less output. Each film is the equivalent of 4 times as much thought & planning as some of the films from other great directors. They are timeless & certainly masterpieces.

Genius!
he made a brilliant film/tv show about the story of film that took 6 years
He has the most intense eyebrows ever.
8:40, Dial M for murder by Hitchcock for studying changing camera position ls in dialogue scenes.
"After ARRS"
"Raging BOOLE"

You're right. Toxic Avenger is a true classic!
A maste3r at the art of cinema
fucking legend
I hate mark cousins accent! But marty is just pure genius

Does anyone have any others in the series?
Terence Stamp or Bertolucci for example..
@wastelandnumberseven I agree, I freakin' love Mark Cousins, he's got the awesomest voice too, haha. Any idea where his accent is from?
Scotland maybe. I just saw the Sean Connery interview. Great stuff
@GantonioG My favourite Scorsese movie is Blazing Saddles.
mine's young fronkensteen
@Y2Jericho161 He is much better than people give him credit for. I think that's the definition of underrated.
I totally agree with you two.

qt can only dream of reaching scosese's level.
Pfft...Once Upon A Time In Hollywood is superior to any Scorsese movie since the 1980s.
@@npe9483 The Irishman is better.
Most underrated filmmaker of all time. Hands down!
underrated? where?
r u referring to reservoir dogs and pulp fiction?
You don't by any chance have the Jeanne Moreau Mark Cousins Scene-by-Scene?
Whatever happened to Mark Cousins?
where's the one with Woody Allen ?
Unfair, although his voice is annoying, he knows his shit, why would he have so many great directors agree to his interviews. He asks really great non typical questions.
this guy looks like a don of the mafia heh
I think that was a different Mark Cousins...
Sounds like Woody Allen
i think that now that he's got money he just wants to have fun doing action movies
Why doesn't anyone pronounce his last name correctly?
Sounds like he says "After Ars"...
well both then
@CoolerKing37 I was just thinking about that. XD
That guy is a freak! most of the english are very strange.
@simonwedege How is he underrated?
I thought he is an Italian
@leroyinc its really Scoresessy but every one says sorsazeee
@leroyinc score-saze-ee
He's irish. The english are strange????
you couldn't be more wrong.
@charliechutney
Lol, that's probably not too far from the truth.:)

@JesusCristo2002 If Jesus said, than it must be true!
It's called " Raging Bull " ... learn how to spell ...
Scorsese = Master
Cousins = annoying, overanalyzing and arrogant self proclaimed 'acclaimed filmmaker'.
the interview with polanski was far more interesting, ...this was just fast blabla out from an italian brain.
+chris cool "this was just fast blabla out from an italian brain." Hmm sure . . .
Were you born this stupid or you are just trying to impress us all?
